My wife and I came in looking for our first high-quality bikes and we could not have had a nicer experience. Every employee was very welcoming and accommodating. Pat walked us through everything we needed to know and was genuinely interested in getting us what was best for us without upselling us on something we didn't need. He was nice enough to take the extra time to get us the right fit, and he even assembled other options for us to try out over the course of a couple days. He stayed late after closing time without rushing us out of the store because those were the only times that worked for us. Just an all-around fantastic experience. Good- Rob, the owner, is about as nice a guy as you could hope to meet Bad- My last two experiences with having work done on my bikes here have been terrible. This last time my bike was there for 10 days before I decided to call and check. They had ordered a part and were waiting for it but had never called to inform me. The day the bike was supposed to be finished I arrived at 5 p.m. and was told it wasn't done- no phone call. They said come tomorrow morning, it will be finished. I show up at 3 p.m. and it is not done, and a mechanic with his mouth full of cheeseburger tells me they will give me a call. There was a brief moment then, thankfully very brief, where I felt myself giving in to the inclination to produce the most surprising and negative encounter that boy had experienced in a while. Ah, well. It's too bad, but nice owners do not make up for this level of unprofessional and rude behavior. read more

Staff was terrible. I used to like this store, however recently I brought a new bike into the store to have a bottom bracket pressed in. The mechanic was great guy, but happened to break the cups that hold the bracket bearings in place and told me this happened because the right parts were not furnished to him by me. Even though I bought the bracket new from SRAM $50. So I bought a Kris king Bracket from the store right there on the spot, $110 and after the mechanic finished pressing it in I went to pay only to find that they charged me for two Bottom Bracket installs. I Asked that they do the right thing by only charging me for one install due to them breaking the original part I brought in there and did not ask them to replace it then without even flinching spent $110 for a replacement part right there in the store. I was shocked that they were appalled that I would even asked them such a thing! Can you imagine, I even had to convince him that that was the right thing to do. How did they stay in business this long anyway? After refunding me the $20 Rob the owner who is know to be a very cool guy told me to never come into his store again! WOW! My advice is to purchase all of your parts online, they are much less money. As for servicing your bikes? Buy the tools to do it yourself, its not difficult at all. read more

I worked in the repair department for Harold Kegel in 1968 and again in 1972. They were well established back then as the area's best with Schwinn, Raleigh, and other brands. Today, Rob carries on the tradition of a great local business with great choice in product, parts, and service. Kegel's is simply the best in northern Illinois. They have all my bike business. I paid $100 to shape up a bike .it had both wheels on handle bars on seat on. when I picked it up I rode it 50ft from the front door to my car the handle bars turned I almost tumbled. BE VERY WARY WHEN YOU PICK UP YOUR BIKE!!!!!!! read more
