This cafe has a very limited food selection, including whole fruit, some questionable-looking pastries, and the cliché packaged jumbo muffins. I went with a muffin at the clerk's recommendation, only to find the only plasticware they had were knives--so I cut my muffin and ate it with a knife For drinks, they also have smoothies and coffee. Visited Smooth Java Coffee Bar, which partners with Starbucks. While the coffee didn't taste exactly like what I'm used to from Starbucks, it was still just what I needed to start my day. Unfortunately, they don't have the Blonde Espresso Roast, which was a bit of a bummer for me. I ordered a bacon and cream cheese croissant, but they gave me a tomato and cream cheese croissant instead. Although it wasn't what I was expecting, it was still delicious. They also offer a variety of breakfast items, fruit, and energy drinks if you're looking for something other than coffee. The line can get a bit long, so I'd suggest going early right when they open or later in the afternoon to avoid the rush. Overall, a decent experience with room for improvement! read more

I hope they correct the address, this is a review for the Smooth Java Coffee Bar located in the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort 9939 Universal in Orlando. There are at least half a dozen Rosen hotel properties (and a training academy) all with very similar names. I'm not sure how many of them have Smooth Java Coffee Bars in them. They serve Starbuck products, and like Starbucks, the regular coffee can be bitter and not fresh, and they only serve in disposable containers with lots of unrecyclable plastic waste. Unlike SB, they don't take names so it's pretty common for rushed meeting guests to jump and take my order even though they ordered after me. Always a long line, and the service is quick and a little rough. Twice they slapped the cap onto my espresso cups hard enough to bend the cups and so I dripped espresso onto my shirt and shoes. I'm not as concerned about the stains as I was heartbroken at the loss of the precious drops of espresso, there isn't a lot of fluid in that order to begin with. It's the only coffee in the hotel unless your meeting orders catered coffee for a break. I wouldn't call the Keurig coffee machines in the rooms a viable alternative because that's not good coffee. There are a few places to sit here, but not really comfortable to get any work done, and besides even if you sit and drink inside they won't give you a ceramic cup and saucer. The next time I come to this resort I'm bringing my own water heater, coffee, French press, thermos, and coffee cup for the hotel room. read more

We came in for some coffee and something to eat. It was great to see that they had Starbucks coffee available. They had a great variety of things to eat as well. They had bars, salads, sandwiches, yogurts, danishes, muffins, bagels, fruits, and other small goodies. I had ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and a strawberry acai drink. I waited for my bagel after my drink was done and suddenly a burnt toast smell was in the air. I was near the counter waiting for my bagel and the employee called out, "bagel with cream cheese." She proceeds to tell me that, "it's a little over toasted, let me know if you're okay with that or want a new one." I proceeded to look into the bag and saw that the top was very burnt and was very dark. I told her that I wanted a new one and she was kind enough to toast me a new bagel. The other thing that I didn't like was that there was not enough ice in my drink and it was watery that I could not finish it. On a trip I visited this coffee bar/café inside an Orlando hotel. The shop resembles a starbucks but is a little different in that it prepares smoothies and the name of this cafe is Smooth Java. Is so similar to a Starbucks but, while it did not have cortado (as the 'bucks now does) on menu, I was assured they could make it. Advertising near the order taker also displayed the popular Dubai Chocolate Matcha latte (or similar name) I keep hearing of at 'bucks. I ordered a cortado my way and next was a little surprised/stunned to have the cashier turn their iPad around and instructed me to choose one on the screen which seemed to me like a command. I entered a tip and thought (to myself) it odd that instead of being requested to leave a gratuity I was ordered to do so. Even though coffee shops inside of hotels can be a bit expensive for a simple cup of iced coffee - I have thoroughly enjoyed stopping at this coffee shop every day before model prep and rehearsals. During this particular day, I spent more than 30 minutes sipping my iced coffee while I people watched and listened to podcast. The early mornings was quite chilled. After spending a few days in one location, I became a familiar face. Therefore, a few employees greeted me with smiles and well wishes to start that day. More along the lines of milk then coffee. This location is inside the hotel and to the right of the entrance. It is a nice spot especially if you are staying in the hotel. Lots of room and a great place to hang out in the morning. The coffee though... It is in a Starbucks cup, they says it is Starbucks coffee, and you order from a Starbucks menu... but is certainly does not have the Starbucks bold flavor! And then I found out part of the reason why... Their venti (or large) only has 2 espresso shots in it. I could have sworn that a venti is supposed to have 3? Generally if I order a venti I usually ask for 4! There was not anywhere near enough help behind the counter for the fact that this location was in the midst of a convention! Schedule accordingly... the line was long and the process slow... but I will say they kept it going and were methodical about making it happen! They brew Starbucks coffee here at the Smooth Java Coffee Bar, located inside the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. I don't drink coffee - only tea - but they do have the Tazo teas there, which is nice. What they don't have, however, are the holiday teas that Starbucks carries. Smooth Java also serves bagels, muffins, cakes, and some snack bars, too. I had an everything bagel one morning, and it was toasted to perfection, and a nice complement to my morning cuppa. Open til 8PM. We were here for the weekend for a conference at the Rosen Shingle Creek and I was walking down a path surrounded by restaurants and this coffee shop. Hadn't had any coffee for the day so decided to drop in to get my usual: iced coffee black. There was no line and there were plenty of drinks to choose from so I decided to give their coffee a try. The barista was friendly and efficient. She got me my coffee pronto. The inside of the store was well kept and bright and there's plenty of seating outside. The coffee itself was average at best and does not even meet Starbuck's level if that says anything. I found the coffee to be over roasted, overly bitter and lacked any other taste. It also wasn't particularly strong in caffeine. I'm usually pretty sensitive to caffeine but didn't feel much after drinking it all. If you're in need of coffee, this is the only place to get it to go (unless you plan on sitting down at any of the other restaurants). It's not terrible but it's not great. It is in a convenient location though so take that into consideration! read more

Solid coffee spot when staying at shingle creek. Can get VERY busy depending on the type of convention that is in house but usually it's a quick grab and go deal. Luckily, Smooth Java was available to hit the spot during my recent convention related stay at Rosen Shingle Creek. If you're there for meetings, the place can get busy quickly. The service was okay, nothing to write home about. Weirdly, if you try to charge to your room early in the day there seems to be some sort of glitch in the system requiring the person checking you out to call the front desk (this didn't happen to me but I saw it happen every morning I was there). The prices are a little above a typical Starbucks (they do brew Starbucks coffee) and the drinks are a little below typical Starbucks quality. read more

The only reason I kept coming here because it was conveniently inside the hotel and our convention did not pay for a coffee service for attendees. In the morning when there are multiple workers, it's not bad service, it's to be expected: order your drink, pay for it, receive it in a timely manner. No problems, but not spectacular customer service. But in the afternoons- there is a particular woman who works here, that, when working by herself has the absolute worst work ethic I have seen in a long time. She made my drink poorly, which was a simple iced decaf coffee. There's not much to screw up there. She did not announce my order when it was ready, she put the wrong top on the cup (a frappachino bubble top instead of a regular drink top)- and on top of that, the drink was WARM. I complained and so she put more ice in it wordlessly. Acquiesced, I dealt with the poor preparation and attitude and moved on. It's clear this woman does not know how to prepare any of the drinks on the menu, because the next day when there was staff with her, she was only on the cashiers register taking orders, while another woman prepared drinks as they should. Not when she rings me but only after she hands the drink, does she tell me she cannot make a cappuccino; she states she does not know how to make foam. I don't understand this.
