This was my first time going to Smooth Wax Bar and I will definitely be back! I have gotten a Brazilian once before and that was with EWC. This experience was so much better!! Sara made me feel so comfortable and was amazing! No hair was left, it was less painful, and she gave me coconut oil to clean off the stickies that were left (all of which ewc did not do)! Wow! It was my first time getting waxed since early college (so over 10 years) so I was nervous, embarrassed, the whole shebang that comes with omg what do i do this is so weird what. They were great on the phone, great on arrival, and Diane was a-mazing throughout. I got a french bikini - It hurt less than expected, I think she could gauge that I'm a talker when I'm nervous so she explained everything, asked questions, and kept going until it was 100% thorough as can be. I basically had the best bikini wax of my entire life here. I had a bikini wax appointment last week, but the usual person I see was unable to keep the appointment. I was annoyed, mostly because the timing of a bikini wax is so important. I like to run, and running within a day or two of a fresh bikini wax is not a good idea. So missing that appointment effed up my weekend planning. It was between Smooth and Charm City Skin. I went with the waxing only option. Since I was a first timer, I called, made the appointment for around lunch time, and I was stoked. The website explains everything. Bikini, French, and Brazilian aren't defined the dam everywhere, so this was great. I wanted a modified bikini wax but not a full on French. Parking was easy, I parked on Charles Street, no problem other than the meter not taking my card. Make sure you have some change. Not trying to get ticketed. Here's a tip: come up Calvert, and make a left on Preston. That way, if you find a nice spot near Charles and Preston you can grab it, but if not just continue right on Charles. If there's nothing there you can always make the block by turning right on Mt. Royal and making a right onto a street running south behind Charles/Smooth. There's a sign in the window facing Charles and Mt. Royal. Smooth will buzz you in. The salon is tiny, but hey, don't need a lot of room for this service. Check in was quick with one page of paper work. I was ready. The entire process was maybe 15 minutes? Probably much less. Melissa is a legit expert. She's fast, and made me feel comfortable. The room was well-lit, clean, and professional. She had no problem giving me the modified bikini I wanted. I have always had bikini waxed with wax...STOP. If you're getting this type of bikini wax, you may want to visit Smooth. Their technique is much, much more comfortable. Like I'm shocked. I was going through so much unnecessary stress and pain for nothing. I felt amazing after, and I still had plenty of time on the meter on my way out. I'll be back! As much as I love my usual waxed as a person, I can't see myself going back to stripless-only wax any time soon. read more

This was my first visit to Val. I've had good and bad Brazilians, and Val was definitely one of the best. Of course, it's always going to be kind of painful, but Val is funny and charming and made it as painless as possible by being quick and careful. The space was clean, easy to locate (though I am super familiar with the area, so I don't know if it would be harder for another person), and her front staff was sweet too. Val also did my brows so nicely that they hardly need to be filled. So, less time getting out of the house, win! Smooth is very reasonably priced. I found Smooth Wax Bar on Yelp after having a horrible experience at another salon and I am so glad that I found them! I have had 2 waxes at this location thus far and all of the staff have been very friendly and helpful. As we all know waxing can be uncomfortable and even awkward but both Val and Diane made me feel as comfortable as possible. Also do not be fearful of the parking situation as it is street parking, but there always seems to be plenty of spots on this section of N. Charles. Great first experience getting my eyebrows waxed at Smooth Wax Bar! This place just might be my go-to for eyebrows. Melissa worked on my brows, and she did an amazing job. She made sure to ask me beforehand how I exactly wanted my wax, which I really appreciated. She was very personable and easy to talk to. Melissa also seems to be very detailed, as she tended to all parts of my brows- they turned out great in the end! The studio itself is gorgeous and cozy. I've been to many asian nail salons in which the sanitation was questionable, but Smooth Wax Bar is not even comparable, and is professional and clean. Not to mention, they even offer student discounts which is a huge plus. Wow is how I will start this review, but wow in the best sense of the word! I scheduled a bikini wax appointment to try out Smooth Wax Bar (not quite ready to for a French or Brazilian quite yet). I managed to get a same day appointment with Diane. The place is small and private, and I simply loved the vibe as soon as I walked in. I was seen promptly and everything was very clean. Now, I have a pretty high pain tolerance...but not with waxing. I'm a huge baby who cusses and tries not to knee anyone in the face when I go flailing about on the table. Diane was terrific, as were the products used. Seriously, hands-down the best wax I've had to date. So good that I'm writing a review, and that is something I rarely do! Smooth Wax bar is so great I've been going to them for the past two years after I had decided I was tired of driving to silver spring once a month for a wax. What I love most about them is that they are extremely friendly, clean and get you in and out lickety split. Even during Covid they are taking proper measures by requiring all patrons and staff to wear a mask and rarely when I go there is there someone else in the waiting room waiting for a service which lets me know they are properly spacing all clients out. I typically go to Sarah who I absolutely love but I've seen just about all the others and it has been just fine. Sarah is my fave though she always has a great mood, music and sets the vibe right so not even your most intimate apts are awkward. There is no double dipping with the wax pots and they spray and wipe down everything before and after each use. They also provide sanitizer and what I love most is that they are quick and you can either book your apts online or with the receptionist. Overall if you're in the Baltimore city area you should definitely come here. read more

I am a university of baltimore student with a long commute either from work or home and I'm really only in the baltimore area on days I have class. With my schedule this semester that puts me in baltimore and near smooth wax bar 3 days out of the week. I've passed by the sign for this wax bar a few times on my way to starbucks or to my car. I've gotten waxes for a little over 4 years now and have tried plenty of people as well as doing it myself. As much as I would like to always go to my usual person near home that's not always possible. Thank goodness for Smooth wax bar. I did not have my services done by Valerie, I was scheduled with Zen. I absolutely loved my service and experience with Zen. So let's start from the beginning. I booked online for a same day underarm wax, having worked at a spa before I knew that was risky, the availability may just not be possible. Luckily smooth wax bar had an a slot that evening! I didn't have trouble finding the location but for newcomers I should warn you the place is inside of a smaller building and ideal for one person at a time service not a huge group. The receptionist was very social and overall a friendly person. Now for the actual service: Zen was very welcoming, funny and professional throughout the entire service. She kept the conversation going which helped passed the time by but either way it was a quick service. Anyone who's had any type of waxing done knows its very rare to have a painless experience. Less painful perhaps but painless? RARITY. Zen made it possible though and I appreciate her so much for that. She also makes sure every hair is gone so if she missed it, she's going back to get it but not by waxing in the same spot again - even her plucking/tweezing the strays didn't hurt me! I cannot say enough great things about Valerie and team. I had my first appointment with Smooth last month and I'm never going anywhere else. Valerie is exactly what you want in waxer/esthetician, she makes you feel like you've known each other forever and she works super quick! I love the fact that she uses hard wax instead of hot, I think the wax lasts longer and is more precise. Also, the woman at the front desk (name is eluding me!) is super sweet and we had an awesome discussion about handbag brands. The location in Mt. Vernon is in an apartment style building that faces busy Charles St., but you would never know! As soon as you walk in you are greeted with soft colors, indie music, and cool artwork (there are multiple pictures of Dolly Parton, Valerie's a fan!) I've been seeing Val for the last three years for all of my waxing needs, and let me say folks, Val is the best out there. I've been waxing exclusively and have eliminated shaving entirely from my hair removal regimen five years ago. That being said, I've been to a number of establishments and a number of estheticians, and none of them have come even close to Val. Her waxing techniques are nearly painless, and she's very quick, too. She uses both hard and soft waxes to ensure minimally painless and hairless results. On top of that she's super sweet, personable, and sincere--you'll be so wrapped up in conversation you won't realize how fast the time is going by! Her studio is gorgeous, cozy, and clean. I followed her from her previous place of employment and was so thrilled when she opened up her own shop. Appointments are easy to make--you can either call or book online. There's also a loyalty program so you earn points, which you can apply for a discount on services. Parking is street, but I've never had a problem finding parking at all. Also, the prices are very reasonable, especially since she's super thorough and doesn't miss any spots. I can't say enough great things about Smooth Wax Bar. Do you know when you find someone who you connect with and you just fall in love with them the first time you meet them? Then, on top of that, their work is just outstanding? Valerie is that person for me. Many moons ago I wanted to get a Brazilian and I researched and researched different salons and people. You can't just go to anyone when your vagine is involved, ya know? I kept coming back to this one salon and to Valerie in particular. Her bio just spoke to me for some reason, and she's also been a licensed esthetician for a very long time. Score! Put me in coach, I'm ready. My first experience with her was wonderful. She talked me through the whole experience. She explained the different types of waxes she uses where and why for the different types of hair down there. In addition, her spirit is just a calming one. She's just really really nice and very sweet. The mixture of her knowledge and personality is just a recipe for wonderful experience. Fast forward 6 months and at my last appt she tells me she opening up her own salon!! Enter Smooth Wax Bar! Because how much do you love that name!?!
