I am assuming the owner is who waxed me. First off, she made me feel uncomfortable because of her bedside manner. After my visit, I was told by a few other male waxing clients that Val turned a blind eye to, let's say, a little more than just a Brazilian. It is known that she is ok with things happening after she leaves the room. Giving the male client time to "clean himself up." I've worked in a few high-end salons and this was hands down the best waxing service I've ever had. It was quick and the most painless wax I've experienced. Space was cute and very clean as well. I was in from out of town and reached out even though they were booked. Val responded immediately and let me know they were full but if they had a cancellation she would let me know. She reached out as soon as they had a cancellation and did get me in. The biggest disappointment is that I don't live nearby to have her be my regular technician. Update! I recently moved from Baltimore and have gone to at least 5 different waxing salons and NONE COMPARE TO THIS ONE! This is by far THE BEST waxing center I've ever been too! I've been here twice now for a french bikini wax with Dianne and she has been great! She and her receptionist are super nice and laid back, and she's very good at what she does. If I could give Smooth Wax Bar 10 stars, I would (and that is insane given that I'm rating a Brazilian). Val is absolutely wonderful. She does a phenomenal, clean job every single time, is very good at making easy conversation, and makes me feel so comfortable. I actually look forward to going to see her (again, an insane comment given the occasion). She is the best. The space is lovely and clean, and the staff is so nice and helpful. They have been very accommodating of last minute appointments and changes, and even waived a last-minute cancellation fee for me (which I was happy to pay because I love them so much) when I got sick. My only concern in writing this review, which I know others share, is that Val might get so busy with well-deserved customers that it would be harder for me to get in. read more

Came in after reading great reviews on the owner( Val) and was able to be accommodated as a walk in. ( happy dance ) Cute space with easy street parking. Greeted- signed consent. Walked to a private waxing room, dropped my pants and hopped on the table. I had the pleasure of being blissfully tortured with love by Val. I was determined to get a Mr Miagee! ( wax on- hair off) the first three globs of hot wax were a mind F--- somewhere between it's gonna hurt mixed in with a kinky pleasure of hot ( candle) wax excited me- only to be ripped into reality as she pulled at my sunshine pubes. After the third go- I had it mastered.... kind of. It took me months to grow enough hair so I wasn't going to back down! ( TMI? It's yelp- it's ok) we talked as she applied hot wax- let it hardened and pulled- quickly. It wasn't as bad as thought but it hurts a bit. After less than 20 min we were done. The highlight was being told "to turn over and hold that cheek up" wax on and quickly off. I'm back to hairless smooth. Its been 3 days and no Bumps- lumps or stray hairs. I look forward to my next adventure here. So worth the money- so polite and professional! And NO double dipping! ya Val!! read more

Excellent experience. So close to where I live, I can walk. The customer service from phone call to arrival, was friendly and professional and accommodating. Everyone was so enthusiastic, it felt like they had a good working relationship with each other. Valerie has the place beautifully decorated, it's LGBTQ-friendly, and gender neutral. I never fit into those girly spaces, where I'm supposed to be wanting facials and caring about my pores. The wax was a great wax, and no one was pushing me to buy more things. Honestly, everyone was so nice! Unfortunately for me, this is the place to go for a Brazilian, and not brows. I just moved here and I had an amazing brow person before. My eyebrows are very important to me. I enjoy having my eyebrows mapped, because I can see what shape they'll be before waxing. When I told the person who waxed me this, she said she had been waxing for so long that she didn't need to map my brows. However, she proceeded to stop and ask me about my brows every couple of minutes, which could have been avoided if she had just mapped them. I also paid for a brow tint, which didn't really do anything. Usually brow tint stains the skin for a couple of weeks, and I think the tint they used just tinted my hairs or something. I was hoping it'd develop or something but it did not. The cherry on top is that I was there for almost 45 minutes...brows should not take this long. I enjoyed our conversation, but would have rather been in and out and happier with my result. It was $42 after tip, and I am not really satisfied. I noticed some hair after the fact that I would have liked removed(and would have been removed with proper brow mapping). I'm not a brow expert, so going over what I wanted in detail was tough to explain, and I'm just not happy. At least my brows are cleaned up until I can find someone else. read more

First time getting waxed in a while so I was a little nervous. The waxing room was relaxing and clean. As far as waxing they did a great job . I'm giving 3 stars because I asked for a Brazilian with a landing strip and when I got up I had a full Brazilian. I was a little startled and she looked at me and said she forgot because we were talking. I was obviously very frustrated and there was nothing she could do about it at that point. She had one job and 15-20 min to stay on task and complete it and failed. read more

Valerie is absolutely AMAZING!!! I never expected to have as good of a time, and laugh as much as I did, while getting waxed. It was my first time getting the "Full Monty" (trying to be discreet here, lol). She made me feel incredibly comfortable, in addition to taking the time to fully explain the process. Valerie was awesome! got a Brazilian and lip and brow wax while I was there. it was relatively quick and painless as Valerie knows what she's doing. minimal irritation so far and looks cute. the only other waxing studio that I even know of in the area is charm city skin, which is great but the prices here are better for equal quality service. only things are parking sucks in the area and i wish they offered eyebrow threading! still totally happy with my brow wax though and will definitely come back. read more

I am a University of Baltimore student and I get a discount which I LOVE! I tried this place maybe 2 months ago and I'm hooked! I also live down the street so the location is perfect. I Love Valerie. She is SO attentive. She always gives me her honest opinion, but she assures me she will do whatever I prefer. I get my eyebrows done pretty regularly. She takes of a little by little and then ask what I think. She is never in a rush to get me out the door. I get her undivided attention. Eyebrows are a BIG deal they are the first thing people see. I am confident that Valerie will do a great job every time. It can be hard to branch out and try a new waxing place but I assure you, you will be happy with the results.
