I had the crab linguine in creamy lobster sauce, I could not taste the crab at all, and the sauce was very mild, I would not recommend. My wife had the salmon, which was flavorless. She actually put salt on it. The servers were all pleasant, they do sort of tag team with each table, but they would drop off food at a table right by us, and not even check to see if we needed another drink, which we did. On the plus side, we sat on the lower level, the seats were very comfortable, it was really hot in Donegal (82F), so the shades were drawn at each level. The lower level was nice and cool with the AC pumping. When I went upstairs to use the toilet, it was much warmer, it would have been unbearable for me to sit up there.

(PS 6 came and went and no one asked to leave) We never had the same server; various very young servers would drop off things--like the bottle of wine we ordered, already opened, no tasting. They never asked how our dinners were, which was too bad because I was given a butter knife to cut my overdone steak. A steak knife might have actually allowed me to cut through it and eat the thing. They wouldn't take it off the bill because apparently the chef could cut it--do you think he used a butter knife? On our way out we passed a tween happily cutting away on her steak with an actual knife. It's the only restaurant in town and I still wouldn't go back.

The fish was very crispy, it tasted good, although I could not detect the freshness of the fish compared to the other places in Ireland. Turns out I like mushy peas, tastes just like split pea soup. The bacon cheeseburger was excellent. The menu closely resembled the menu from Quay west about 2 doors down, so I would avoid steaks and pastas. It took a while to get my second drink, and then a good 20 minutes before we could pay our bill. So it took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to have a pretty basic meal. The "Agio Olio" was amazing with mussels and shrimp....lots of garlic and a wonderful blending of the juices of all. It can be ordered with your preference of heat from the red pepper. We ordered the mild, and friends with us with a little heat. Everyone loved it! House made pasta was so so good. We also ordered one of the best Caesar salads. Great dressing, a wonderful lettuce that tastes fresh from the garden, sliced white onions, croutons and thin sliced Parmesan. We each ordered different drinks and they were all good. The wait staff were super nice and very attentive. The owner made us feel as if we were good friends visiting his home. We look forward to coming again on our next trip to Sligo.

Since we weren't exactly mixing it up with multiple nights at similar pubs, it was essential to add some variety to our ordering. Not that I couldn't eat roast every night, but the wife needed a few more choices. It was no problem here, and being on the first level plenty of fast, efficient wait staff. The only problem is what to order. If Irish Pubs are typically like the American Diner, the choices at The Belfry are like Cheesecake Factory! So much food, only two rugby match halves! My wife singled out the lamb stew on the way in the door, so she was locked in from the starting gun. I was torn but not going to veer too far from something huge-meat. I almost, almost got the Marc's Baked Ribs. A last second check-swing; I chose the Joint of Sherlocks Irish Beef. If it sounds like you'd be down for the count after consuming that, you'd be right. Way better than an earlier roast dish in another town, it restored my faith in that Irish pub staple. Back to those ribs, the table next store got them and I definitely had order envy. As if I weren't headed toward the coma cliff at 79 kph (nod to all you metric lovers which I'm not), I decided to put the pedal to the floor when after spotting the beer flight poster on the wall. Even better, you could pick any three! I'm in: light to dark. All local, of course I'm a tourist so one choice had to be Guinness. Thank goodness my wife is terrified of me driving in the left because I could do with the nappy-nap on the way to the coast. Nice all around time here, exceeding my expectations and dispelling any leeriness of a tourist trap. I'll return if I can on my next trip to the Mecca of Sligo.
