Our spirit tasting flight with a maple syrup taste to finish!
    Christine R.

Swung by here after a long day of hiking, and really enjoyed their spirits. The father/son duo won a double gold medal for their vodka, but we really enjoyed their grapefruit and rose infused vodka, gins, and especially their rum aged in bourbon barrels. Our favorite item was their maple syrup (also aged in bourbon barrels). The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The young woman who helped us patiently explained each liquor before we took our flights outside to enjoy in the Vermont air. We really enjoyed sipping these spirits and would definitely come back to try some great cocktails.

Small little place but, great samples! I'd add maybe some more seating but, we enjoyed it. The vodka is some of the best I've ever had. Deserves the awards. :)

Lots of alcohol, not enough snacks. For $3 you can try 4 of their 7 alcohols: vodka, hopped gin, gin, wheat whiskey, rum, bourbon whisky, and a special reserve bourbon. Nice alcohols, but 4 shots were tough because there were no crackers, chips, or even a chaser. Got rough by taste 3. I would have rated it higher if they had any palette cleansers. The store is quaint and great if you're looking for a gift or special bottle. Best perk: right next to a Cabot store.

A tasting is $5 for 4 quarter-ounce pours. We tried all of the whiskeys. Not all of it is the best but they have some original liquors that are good. We ended up with the Litigation Wheat Whiskey.

Small tasting room with a nice sampling of spirits. The wheat whiskey and hopped gin were my favorites. Nice touch was a maple syrup sample at the end. No tours, just sampling and retail store. Check out the cool artwork on the town green across the street

Tourist trap, but good value for tastings. Don't care for any of the spirits from a visit three years ago. Heard it has not evolved.

After looking at the very attractive displays showcasing each product made at the Distillery, my daughter and I opted to share a tasting. We chose the Moroccan Rose and Grapefruit Flavored Vodka to start and I loved the distinct fruity taste without the sugary sweetness. Next was the Maple Gin, which was lovely as well. Our server told us she likes to mix it with muddled blueberries and ginger beer for a refreshing summertime mule, and I agree that does sound delicious. Our third taste was the Bourbon Maple Cream Liquor, which was so delicious, and we finished the tasting with the Maple Cram Liquor, which was smooth, sweet, and went down very easily. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the store - everything was sparkly clean and shining. The layout of the displays was so attractive. We will definitely stop there again on our next trip to VT.

The tasting room is small with a single counter for tasting and a wall of bottles for purchase but it's well worth the wait if needed. You can even sample the syrups while you wait for free! Our hostess was very informative about all of the spirits and very appreciative of each of her customers. She talked a bit fast but that's understandable in the environment, it's busy!! We each did a tasting, the special tasting and the regular, so we got to try almost everything! Our cabinet and fridge got a few new additions with the canned vodka sodas and a single barrel. I highly recommend a stop and a tasting of the Hopped Gin, whether you're a gin drinker or not!! We visited in August 2024.

I had never had that before, and it was a delicious pairing. The server was so accommodating about my food allergies. It's been a recent development, so I forgot to tell her till after we had ordered appetizers. She went in the kitchen and modified what they were making in the moment so that I could eat it. I was so grateful. Her and the bartender were in communication with me about which dishes would be safe for me to eat, so they really try to help people in that department. Everything I ate was delicious. Especially the cauliflower bites, pan seared tuna and cauliflower risotto. They hand made me a salad dressing so it would be allergy friendly and it was delicious. I loved looking at the cool stuff on the walls (everything I saw was genuine and relevant to the theme, not just "old stuff" like other restaurants), and the bathroom is astounding. I really enjoyed coming here and I am excited to come again.

You would think the mashed potatoes or braised short rib would soften up the dish but quite the opposite. It was a little hard to eat. We had to use some of the sauce from the Vermont butter chicken dish to finish the rest of the shepherds pie. The Vermont butter chicken was OK. I'm used to traditional butter chicken which has lots of spices as we are big fans of Indian food. So the butter chicken did lack some depth. The triple B and smash burger were on the other hand delicious The drinks all around were a disappointment. I ordered one their margarita, and it tasted so bland. My companions also did not like their cocktails that they resorted to beer the next round. The staff was very friendly although our waitress seemed some what new, as she got confused with the menu a few times. The distillery itself seems to be a popular place but likely more for gin tasting. The venue is spacious and suitable for families. I like that they have different rooms, which can accommodate for groups.

I spoke with David Howe, owner of Elm Brook Farm & Distillery at the Burlington Farmers Market this…read moreweekend. In recent years there have been many new Vermont spirit companies popping out the woodwork, including Whistlepig rye whiskey, Caledonia gin and vodka, and many others, so I asked David how his Maple Spirit and Sipping Vodka are different. David explained to me that his products are one of the very few amongst the crowd of competitors that actually use Vermont products and are distilled in Vermont. For example, Whistlepig Whiskey which is now extremely popular locally and thought of as a Vermont product, grows its rye and distills its whiskey in Canada. Elm Brook Farm uses maple grown on its Vermont farm and its own farm-based distillery to create its unique spirits, making it one of the very few Vermont spirits (not wine and beer) that's actually truly from Vermont. David was selling his two offerings, Rail Dog Barrel-Aged Maple Spirt and Literary Dog Vodka, at the market and I asked him to tell me more about them. Rail Dog Barrel-Aged Maple Spirit is created from Vermont maple grown on Elm Brook Farm. Tasting somewhere between cognac and whisky, it has flavors of vanilla and almond without the harshness associated with other aged spirits. Rail Dog is aged in American Oak barrels from Minnesota where the winters are long and cold so the tree rings are tight and protect the alcohol from air or moisture while it steeps in the oak flavors from the charred and toasted barrels. Literary Dog 23X-Distilled Vodka is small-batch artisanal vodka that begins with Elm Brook Farm maple sap. The slow distilling process produces a vodka that is smooth while maintaining the subtle characteristics of toffee and cream with a hint of sweet maple. Given this unique taste, LD Vodka is considered a sipping vodka and is meant to be sipped slowly to enjoy the flavor. The Farmers Market has so many interesting and diverse offerings. If you stop to speak to the owners that sell their wares there, you are sure to hear interesting stories and find that their products often are more than you might expect. This was the case for me when I stopped to learn more about Elm Brook Farm's delicious products. If you are interested in trying Elm Brook Farm's spirits, you can find them at: The Burlington Farmers' Market located at City Hall Park 8:30am - 2:00pm every Saturday from May 10 to October 25, 2014; The Stowe Farmers Market located on Rte. 108, Mountain Road about 2 miles from the intersection of Rte. 100 and Rte.108, next to the Red Barn Shops and across from The Stoweflake Resort from 10:30am - 3:00pm Sundays: June 1, 15, 29; July 13, 27; August 3, 17, 31; September 14, 28; and October 12, 2014; and At the Elm Brook Farm distillery in East Fairfield, Vermont. You can contact them at ebf@elmbrookfarm.com to schedule an appointment as they do not keep regular hours.

Over the years, I've drunk in moderation, and have had a fair variety of vodkas, but I'm certainly not the world's premier expert on vodka.
