My friend and I came by and dropped off a ton of cardboard boxes today from the back of my car. The service and location are extremely convenient and the workers were courteous and quick. We were in and out in like a minute and a half, and that was mostly just me backing my car into the spot in front of the cardboard sign lol. We came in on a Wednesday afternoon. Make sure you break down your boxes flat before you bring them. My friend and I did that and put them in the two largest boxes I had, and handed them to the workers that way (so I guess they ended up breaking down those two of course, but the rest were all flat.) I don't have cardboard recycling at my apartment and I have a vending machine business, so I'll definitely be back at some point to recycle more cardboard and possibly other materials. read more

The shopping cart theory suggests that an individual's moral character can be determined by whether they return a shopping cart back to its designated spot. The same holds true for recycling in Atlanta. It isn't exactly easy to recycle and requires high effort to find a facility and dispose of recyclable materials. Fortunately, the City of Smyrna recognizes this and has a small drop off location off S Cobb Dr. The staff here are helpful, but there are some limits on what you can and can't bring to this facility. Green and clear glass, no problem. Mixed paper, no problem. What about the air packs in your Amazon packages? Bubble wrap? Plastic hangers? How about plastics that come from takeout at restaurants? It starts getting confusing very quickly. Rather than send to the landfill, check with the staff first. I had a bag of plastics including packing film and bubble wrap that could not be accepted since it needs to be in an orange bag, so that was a bit disappointing. For any plastics including #5, you can use an orange bag for those that you can hand off to the facility. The facility closes promptly at 4 pm on Saturday, but operates like a drive thru. The line can back up to the street and it's hard to back out in a car. We need more recycling options to keep the city beautiful. read more
