My kids have done MANY types of classes in the Kingston area, from dance to gymnastics to karate to soccer, and this place is my favorite of them all and my top priority to encourage my kids to stick with for the long haul. Coach Malachy manages that rare balance of fun and structure. My kids are learning real skills, but also growing in confidence, focus, resilience, and respect... while having fun. For adults, the classes are both challenging and supportive. I'm a pretty slow learner, but I've always felt welcome, have fun, and enjoy a community full of genuinely kind, down-to-earth people. The gym is always clean, organized, and really feels like a family environment where everyone (kids, teens, parents) is growing together. I've been going for 2 months now (at least 4 days a week for the past month) and I (and my wife) have noticed changes in my attitude and physical appearance, all for the better. The on boarding process was easy and a great into into what CrossFit is, the classes are great, one hour in and out, no thinking of what to do next. I go at 530AM and have the whole day for my wife and kids. So now when they wake up I'm waiting downstairs with breakfast and coffee for everyone. The coaches are all very friendly and helpful. They will learn your limits and help you push through them. The other athletes are really some of the friendliest people you'll meet. A week ago when running one of the more athletic guys pushed me and another runner the last 100m to an all out sprint for the last lap. I wouldn't have done it on my own.

There's so much more knowledge in exercise science/physiology, to which I am eager to learn and apply. Thus, Warlock is a great new gym for Crossfit and Yoga. The trainers are so knowledgeable, and equally challenge and educate me each workout. The gym is atypical, so if you're expecting amenities other than than top equipment, perhaps Golds or Crunch would be better. This gym has top of the line Rogue equipment, in a setting that is conducive to a great workout. In other words, show up ready to work out with your trainer and other crossfitters. There's a bathroom and some cubbies for your things, but plan on showering elsewhere. I'm new to the Crossfit environment, and Erik and Chris, the owners, have allayed any fears I had about hurting myself, and squashed any stereotypes I associated with Crossfitters. There's no key tag or sign in. Everyone knows you, and you just show up for your class. There's a workout on the board, so if your familiar with WODs, then your all set. If you're like me, a beginner, Erik takes the time to scale the workout and teach you the correct form to improve each week. I opted for the charter membership, which gives me unlimited classes throughout the year, including yoga. I'm hopeful that they'll also include mobility classes too. If you read this before November 1st, you can still sign up for that plan! In sum, I'll admit that I was close minded towards Crossfit, Crossfitters, and the stereotypes/ lifestyle associated with it. It isn't like that at all... I was able to work with people of all levels, each person imparting their wisdom, openly answering questions and teaching me new techniques. The classes also incorporate wresting, which I found incredibly useful. Professor Wacker, Dave, Dragon, AJ, Ray, and the rest of the team with whom I worked had a good gauge of my strengths and weaknesses straight out the gate, offering individualized advice that I felt translated to better retention and application of the skills being learned. Jerry, and the rest of his team took notice of what I could and could not do and pushed me to my limits. The Northstar team is very professional, while also being friendly. It is a fun environment with music playing as they train you. They have every ball imaginable and two basketball hoops in the facility. The best way to describe a workout is that they work many different muscles. At one point I was on the treadmills, then on an erg machine, then lifted light weights for reps that worked my back and finished it off with some plate pushes. They also offer a shake for once you are done with the class. Shakes cost $4, strawberry was awesome.
