Anyways, I felt compelled to write a review since I had such a positive experience, yet most of the yelpers gave negative feedback...hmmmm I made an appointment over the phone with Steve at the beginning of the week. Lucky me, he had a small window for that Friday, the day I was gonna be in Frederick. He was friendly, accommodating and professional both on the phone and in person. My tattoo took no time, interesting conversation that kept me distracted, I was done before you knew it! Decent prices. Great work. Thank you Steve! this guy is very rude, and the piercings he does infected and has to be retired because same reasons. bad quality, no length when the are swollen, something is wrong custome has to come back and pay again to change the jewelry. when I complain he just answer very rude. he doesn't explain charges and after the price go to expensive and still he arguing with the customer. I felt so unsastified. I have been paying for a bad service. he puts her niece who is apprentice and she is not doing well and still I have to pay full price. 0/10 would not recommend to a friend. (Or an enemy) I called ahead to book an a appointment to get my septum pierced in August. When I arrived I was told the lead piercer was no longer in and I could not be seen by him. I was disappointed since I was not notified prior to coming in, but the apprentice expressed she could do it for $15. It was my birthday, so I was determined to get it pierced... The apprentice asked which ring I preferred and I expressed the smaller one since I have a smaller nose. The apprentice did not feel in my nose prior to piercing and then pierced my nose....she immediately said she missed and it was lopsided. I debated leaving as is because the pain was so bad , but she said she wouldn't be able to live with herself if I left with a lopsided piercing, she took out the jewelry and pierced my nose again, but this time hurt way more. I immediately felt like passing out and throwing up. She wasn't sure how to react and seemed scared. After finally receiving water and catching my breath and paid (and tipped) for my very much $15 worthy piercing - I left. Although it was not ideal, I did pay for what I got... so I thought. A few months later I went into another shop that had jewelry so I could exchange my ring. The piercer at this other location was MORTIFIED. She said the piercing was done incorrectly and would rip my cartilage of not taken out. She advised me to return to where I got pierced and give the lead piercer a chance to fix it. I returned to Snakeman's and the apprentice greeted me. I reminded her I was and expressed what the other piercer told me. As I was telling her, the lead piercer (who I am assuming is Snakeman/owner) and he asked what happened. I told him everything I just typed and immediately it was my fault. He didn't say sorry and started saying it probably occurred when I flipped my piercing, changing my jewelry too soon, and allergies. I expressed that I had done none of those things or have allergies. He then told me the piercer from the other location was being dramatic and told me it was my choice what to do next. I told him I understood that my cartilage probably wouldn't tear, but my nose was clearly was rejecting the piercing due to being done incorrectly twice. He told the apprentice to take out and told me that next time not to focus on what jewelry was "cuter." (Mind you, I was not informed that a smaller ring would do this) It made me believe what occurred was my fault. He never apologized (nor did she) once. I thought they would say sorry or maybe offer to redo my nose once it was healed. Obviously, I know I got what I paid for (a septum for $15) but to not apologize or to take some credibility was hurtful. read more

The only person that was wearing a mask that works here was the receptionist and even she had it under her nose. They take payment before the piercing? I don't know if that's different elsewhere but. Steve, the person that pierced my ears, didn't mark my ear at all before piercing and didn't even warn me before he did it. I only gave 2 stars bc the piercing was quick and thankfully my piercings aren't infected (at least not yet). Anyway would not recommend unless you don't care about the placement of your piercing or getting COVID for that matter. read more

I called to make an appointment for 4 apprentice piercings, the person on the phone asked if they were underage and i said yes they said we needed to bring a birth certificate or any other form of identification, and the legal guardian needed to bring an id. We made the appointment for February 17th, we went in and the person at the front desk told us that the person that would be doing our piercing got into a car accident and couldn't come in to do it. No call, no message, nothing to cancel our appointment and let us know before hand they couldn't do it that day, we were already annoyed about that but still wanted the piercings so we set the appointment for today, march 2nd we went in and told them our appointment. The person told us that we would need a birth certificate and a valid photo id (which we were not told) when we had mentioned that they got an attitude and said that they clarify that on every phone call, which is not true as we were not told anything about that on either 2 of the phone calls that i made or the time we went in (it was the same person both times.) After we said that they made no attempts to try to help our situation or apologize for their mistakes. The id part is not understandable and very irritating because as minor's they do not have any kind of photo id and we do not keep the school id's as they aren't useful and are never used. You're better off going to blue crab or time bomb as their customer service is a lot better and they actually care about their customers. After looking at some reviews maybe it's a good thing we didn't get pierced. read more

I got my navel done here a while back and one thing that worried me was that they didnt use a clamp when piercing. The bar was also too short and pretty much made it impossible to heal but i feel like they should have accounted for that and known it was too short especially since it would swell. Over all im happy with the piercing since it finally healed after changing to a longer bar but the piercing is like very slightly slanted which im assuming is due to not using a clamp. Its not extremely noticeable but im happy with it. read more

I recently went to Snakeman's to get a surface piercing done on my left hip. Before actually selecting a piercing shop, I did some shopping around over the phone in the Frederick area since I work nearby. Many of the piercing/tattoo shops I asked about hip surface piercings either insisted I do microdermal implants instead, or told me that this type of piercing was "a waste of money," which was a little rude. I am unable to receive permanent metallic implants of any kind for medical reasons, so microdermals were a no-go. However, when I called Snakeman's (which I had never heard of), their female piercer - who I think is named Rhonda - was very friendly and understood my reasons for wanting a surface piercing as opposed to microdermals. She was very sweet, and referred me to Steve to do the actual piercing. On another occasion, I called the shop to see if Steve was still there for the day (his hours are usually 11:00-4:00, I believe), and a gentleman answered this time. He, too, was very friendly and seemed like he honestly looked forward to doing business with a potential customer. I have to admit, when I showed up for a walk-in later in the week, the exterior of the place looked sketchy. However, I entered the shop and found that it was small but clean and organized. The lady at the front desk received me and I told her I was hoping to get a piercing from Steve that day. She went into the back and brought Steve out a little later. He was very personable and was willing to listen to me describe what I wanted without judgment or condescension, which, unfortunately, I have experienced in other shops before. He said he would definitely be able to do a surface piercing, and went to look for the jewelry. The only disappointment I had when I was in the shop was when Steve told me he would be using a curved barbell to do the piercing instead of a staple-shaped bar. On the phone with Rhonda (I believe) earlier, she had stated that they used the small, staple-shaped bars to prevent rejection. Steve told me that the shop had been having trouble with their clients who received these types of barbells during their piercing; the company that made them usually made the vertical bar too long so the piercing looked poorly done. However, I generally put trust in professionals, so I went ahead with the procedure despite barbell shape for $60. I was at ease the entire appointment, and Steve did a great job on my piercing! He took the time to make sure that he pierced enough skin to make for a sturdy piercing, and also took the time to make sure that the barbell would line up with both my hip bone and my preexisting navel piercing. I love it so far, and would definitely recommend Snakeman's for piercing procedures of any kind! read more

I had to pay up front right away, which was red flag number one. I've had eight piercings done before this in my life and I've always paid afterward. It felt like a "can't back out now" situation. When it was time for the prep, it was all fine. He explained to the apprentice with us what to do as she observed. When it came to the piercing itself, I was not given a countdown, no proper clamps were used, and I was not prepared at all. He just went for it and I forced myself to stay still so it wouldn't get messed up. He had to pierce me three separate times in order to even get the jewelry in, when it should've been checked beforehand and been done correctly had he used the proper clamps. I was told not to use saline for aftercare, while that is what every piercer has ever recommended me and others who I've known. I was told to use Dove bar soap and water. Terrible experience, left feeling like I was about to throw up and pass out. read more

I got my first through fourth tattoos here. I was so happy with them at first and recommended Steve to my friends. For piercings, he was great. He did my industrial, rook, and tragus and I've been happy with all them. He does it quickly. However, I have a large tattoo with lyrics to a song on my back. I got it about 7 years ago and about 2 years ago it stopped being legible. Apparently the font was too small. You could read it fine at first but now it is embarrassing and I'm trying to get it covered but it is so big... I also got a peanut on my shoulder which doesn't look good now, people have asked me if it is and footprint.. I have a heart tattoo that was red and yellow. 8 years later it was pink and the yellow completely faded, but I guess tattoos do fade?. I do like my foot tattoo which was a bunch of stars. It held up well but the line work is a bit sloppy in some areas. Steve is a very nice guy and the tools and everything were very clean. But unfortunately I have to give 1 star because he should have known not to make the font so small after tattooing for so many years. Now I'll spend hundreds of dollars to cover it or a lot more getting it removed. I would not recommend going here for tattoos. read more

I live in Montgomery county and was going up to Frederick for the day. I called the shop before to see how much my piercing would be and it was 42 for a stud. I've gotten my nose pierced before but my dog screwed it up so I had to take it out. Anyways 42 was an okay price I say but before when I got it I paid 40. When I got there it was kinda quiet and lots of biker clothes (interesting haha) I told Alex I wanted my nose pierced and she gave me a choice of jewelry and I picked a light blue post. And they also gave me aftercare which was six dollars and my piercing was now 48. This was a birthday present for me for my 20th birthday so I wasn't paying lol. Anyways! We finished paperwork and Alex went to the back to clean the station and called me back. She was very professional and told me all about aftercare and what was about to happen. I was super nervous and told her about my pervious nose piercing and told her I wanted it on the same side but worried I couldn't cause I was scarred on that side but she said it was fine and placed the dot. Then came the cleaning of my nose and putting the thing in my nose to catch the needle (sorry forgot the word for it haha) and I was super nervous and she kept telling me when you're ready which was super sweet. And finally I was ready and boom all done. Didn't hurt. She put the jewelry in and it was done. I was so happy with my experience 10/10. Also they gave me a punch card for if I get 5 piercings I get one for free which is awesome. I recommend this shop :) read more

I took my daughter there for a septum piercing after she called to get a price of forty five dollars. She had a naval piercing done about a month before so we went back. We were informed that a septum piercing was $57. Since the break down was $25 to pierce and jewlery started at $15 on the phone I asked to see the $15 dollar jewlery. There was none, it started at $25. I was told that is what one of the co owners says on the phone for every piercing. Then there is a $5 dollar fee and $2 dollar tax. This is a pretty deceptive practice and it seems it is tolerated there and is not going to change. No acceptable resolution was offered for the wrong quote and I payed the $57 since we drove a half hour there and she really wanted it. Rhonda did the piercing and did it wrong. She came down at an angle so it was noticeably lower on one side. My daughter was upset and took out the jewlery that evening. I called for the owner or manager there the next morning and left a message and received no return call. I called again late afternoon and spoke with Steve. Steve said to bring the ring and he would look at it to make sure it was right and do the piercing again. I returned on Friday which was a couple days later and spoke with Steve. He said the ring was correct and said we should not have taken it out. You could still see the placement as it had not healed yet and another shop verified it was done incorectly. However, Steve would not admit Rhonda did a poor job on the piercing. Steve repierced my daughter after making us wait about a 45 minutes. I did not get an apology or anything for the inconvenience of returning from Steve. This place is using deceptive methods on the phone to get you in the door and has bad customer service skills if a problem should arise. I would highly recommend going somewhere else instead of Snakemans. read more

I went to snakemans on saturday and the piercer steve was quite rude didn't introduce himself he was angry because his tattoo appointment was running late but I was very friendly asking him how he was doing. I went to the back and I was with friend. He was explaining how to clean the piercing and then I asked if we could use our face wash even though its a new piercing and he was rude and was like "If you can wait till I'm finished explaining then I'll answer questions and I wasn't going to answer that question". Then I was telling him I was nervous and scared he said nothing to calm me down but "Its no big deal" I then asked if I could hold my friends hand and he said no you must sit in the chair in the corner and you can't take videos. So my time was up and I sat down and he asked me which side I said left he didn't ask me where he just put the needle in, which before he did that he cut the nose stud which I don't often hear people doing. After I got it done I didn't feel like it looked correct but everyone kept telling me it looked fine then again everyone who told me didn't have their nose pierced. So i get back to college which is in north Carolina and my ra looks at me and is concerned about my piercing says that it doesn't look right she has had hers pierced for years and she could tell that my nose ring was pushed in, like i kept saying all along she saw my nose skin was starting over the piercing. I went to a tattoo shop in north Carolina and asked if the piercer would look at my piercing because I was concerned he was so nice and kind and was looking at it and he was like "did you piss the piercer off because this was so poorly done" "It should not have been cut at the end its a serrated edge which is needing into your nostril and tearing it this has to come out now" So I called snakemans to speak with a manager and the receptionist was like not sure when he's coming in. So I call again today didn't speak to a manager I spoke to the piercer he practically didn't care for what I was saying, he told me the man in north carolina was just saying that it was done poor because thats what those guys do its an "industry thing". An since I wont be home till march theres nothing I can do but go back in march some justice needs to be made here I didn't deserve this I honestly just wanted to try something new but with the way I have been treated I now know SNAKEMANS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR PIERCINGS AND THEY ARE HANDLING THIS SO WRONGLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!! read more

This place is super shady on the outside but the inside is super organized, very well put together, very clean area. Every one is professional and very secure of what they do. They take the time to inform you of what your going to get (videos). I got a piercing by Steve, and he was so efficient, so professional, so great that I really didn't feel any pain but a little pinch! Maybe it's just my body, the area of the piercing, or just the great efficiency of Steve that I really feel great, no swelling, no pain! I was prepared for the worst because of the videos and the info given to me by the staff but I Used ice the same day, no ibuprofen, and second day no ice, I have followed all the cleaning process on point and it's been great. I know when I got my eyebrow done it hurt. My tongue, Ugh in pain till I took it out. But my first experience was great. My 5 yr old went and they were super nice to him, kept him separated from the sanitized environment and equipment in the back rooms, they even had a camera pointed @ him so that I could see him from the back! Plus he had all kinds of leather goods too, his tattoo's were awesome and his staff was really cool! I will go back any day even if it's located in another state for me and it's about 30 min drive with no traffic. read more

I went an got two small tattoos on my middle fingers and at the time the service was well but 3 months later I realized I got fucked over. the care sheet I received said I was able to get a free touch up on hands or feet within 3 months of getting it so I called and they told me that it wasn't free, the paper said that it excludes hands and feet and that it also said to come back in 30 days not 3 months. Steve also was giving me attitude and being rude. the tattoos are so very small but still was super expensive. looking at them now the lines are a little crooked, thinner in some areas and heavier in others. if you want a mediocre tattoo for a hefty price along with awful customer service, go to snakeman's and ask for Steve. read more

After I got the piercing I started to pass out, then one of the really nice guys gave me a Reece's cup to eat.
