During pride me and a friend went in to see if they had availability that day and in less than 30 minutes they were ready for us. We both had guest artist Brianne McNinch and it was my best experience in a shop out of the 15+ I've gone too. She was quite talented, super accommodating, we had great great conversations and you could tell she was actually interested in them, she even stayed late to finish up. I've had two tattoos from Classic Electric Tattoo and I love them both!!! Matt at the front desk is really chill and knowledgeable about the process. The first time around I went in, scheduled an appointment and returned to get my first tattoo (soccer ball ripping through my calf skin). I'm super happy with my tattoo and was a little weary going in for a second since my first artist left. Under new ownership I walked in, discussed what I was looking for and was given a consult appointment. It was an extra step but I felt so much better hearing my artist Bailey tell me that she was looking at other Jeep tattoos online - I knew she had done some homework and was ready to go!! Very chill artist who was very easy to talk to and did excellent work :-). Her detail in the grill with the Maryland flag was spot on and my time on the table was just under an hour and a half. Went to see Rob for a piercing; I'm a longtime customer having followed him from Virginia. Clean shop, easy to spot on the street. There are steps to get to the upstairs where the tattooing/piercing is done so note that if you have mobility issues. Piercing was quick and mildly painless which speaks to Rob's talent. He has sparkly options and handmade gold rings to decorate yourself with. He also will custom order jewelry that you may want. While in the local area, I needed to get a cartridge piercing removed. My ear had quite a bit of scar tissue and was sore. I saw this shop while walking down the street and hopped in to see if they could help. Rob was AMAZING. My ear was so sore and he was incredibly kind and gentle and worked to figure out what he could do to remove the earring and not hurt me. He finally got it out and it was a huge relief. I wish we weren't Covid-y so I could have hugged him. My ear immediately felt better and he gave me suggestions for cleaning the area. Came by on a whim to ask about pricing and availability and I was pleasantly surprised that they had an opening about an hour later! I know that Yelp says this place is a bit expensive, but it's WORTH IT! Good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good. I went with my sister to get her first tattoo, a small one to commemorate her late dog. We are first time customers at this place. The call back for the appointment was quick and prompt, however problems arose at our arrival. They were not welcoming at all and the tattoo artist gave no introduction of himself. Then, the artist, Brandon, showed us the sketch he had prepared, based on a reference photo/personal drawing, and it was inaccurate. He was unwilling to make the correction and offered no willingness to change the size or take suggestions. After some hesitancy, my sister changed the design to a more simplistic personal drawing. He had a previous similar art piece printed of the same dog, but a different customer. It was memorializing the same dog, so she was willing to go ahead with the tattoo. Placement was the next issue. He argued the placement, which was well thought out and personal. He became argumentative after she was sure of the placement she liked and suggested she was rude. The whole process was just unprofessional and very uninviting. I was asked to leave after I addressed his attitude. It was a very simple tattoo and the establishment was empty. Difficult to understand the reason for the hostility. He did return the $100 deposit, but asked both of us to not return. Would not recommend. read more

Awesome experience! I strolled in on a Saturday night on a whim to get my old conch piercing reopened, and add a second right next to it. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming - the guy behind the grabbed the piercer who started prepping the room, I filled out a quick form and showed my ID, and was escorted upstairs to the waiting room. Rob (the piercer) came out right away and took me back to the piercing room, and he was super cool about my sister watching. Everything was super clean and sterile and Rob was awesome. He helped me pick out the jewelry (small curved barbells instead of the cbrs everyone used to use - for less movement and easier healing) and explained every step of the procedure - its been years since I got pierced, so things have changed a bit! He was super knowledgeable and was able to taper open my old conch piercing painlessly, and the second (new) conch piercing above it was super quick and barely hurt at all. I was a bit concerned about doing both in the same visit, but he did a great job. Given my prior experience with conch piercings, I was expecting a LOT of pain and a lot of blood, but I experienced almost zero of either. It was nothing like what I was expecting! He gave me some aftercare directions and reccommended some products, I handed him a tip, and went downstairs and paid. Only $50 to reopen my old piercing, pierce the new one, and two pieces of jewelry. Can't beat that. I'll definitely be back! read more

Horrible Experience. The guy at the front desk was super nice and helpful, but that's where the good experience ended. Wanted to get some bands done which I was quoted a price of 400-500. (my bad I thought there is no way this will cost this much and pressed on anyway) The artist walks by me and says- "so you want to get some swirly shit done?" (no hi or introduction, should have walked out then and there, but didn't) He hadn't even bothered to mock anything up beforehand so he is drawing them as I sit there. We align on the size and placement of the tattoos. Then he tells me how much he hates doing these tattoos. (should have walked out point number two) He asks me why I want these tattoos, and I said because I think they look cool. His reply is "the shit on the wall is cool". This is after he and the other artist have been shit talking a customer about to come in for 5 minutes. Like "this guy sucks", "he wants a dumb tattoo". Look I get it, we all bitch about customers, but maybe not in front of a new customer. I get the whole I'm a cool tattoo artists gruff attitude as well, but this was beyond rude to disparage the thing that is going to be permanently on my body. The kicker is that this is highway robbery. 600 dollars not including tip for two hours of work. That is 300/hour, which is insane. I respect the profession and believe everyone deserves to be fairly compensated, but this is the price of a pro who is in high demand, not an artist who can take me at a moments notice. I was looking to get more work done but it definitely wont be here. read more

I have to give John Rippey all the props he's due! I was admittedly, a nightmare client when I got a Jules de Gaultier (not Lewis Carroll... Too many drugs in college lol) quote on my forearm last week. I rarely travel to downtown Frederick, so unfortunately underestimated time for traffic and parking so I was about 15-20 minutes late to start (I did call, of course). Then, after he spent a good 15 minutes getting the quote perfectly spaced and designed, I realized I had forgotten 3 words and he had to spend another 10-15 minutes redoing it. Lastly, it had been 4 years since my last tattoo work, so I had forgotten that my diabetic neuropathy can make it hurt worse than normal. So needless to say, I was squirming in pain and could barely sit still by the end (while his adorable family watched me make ridiculous faces lol). Nonetheless, it turned out great! He put up with my ridiculousness and delivered an awesome tatto that brought together the random smaller work into 1 cohesive whimsical piece. I apologized profusely for my multiple acts of stupidity (I swear I'm normally not a total tool), but just wanted to reiterate how grateful I am that, despite my mishaps, he was amazing, professional, and a fantastic artist! His work speaks for itself, but his professionalism in the face of a borderline a-hole client was above and beyond. On a side note, every single staff member (including the owner) was A-Team for sure and the shop is immaculate. They really make you feel welcome and at ease, as they clearly know what they're doing! I would recommend John and everyone at Classic Electric to anyone looking for a quality tattoo in an awesome atmosphere. read more

At first glance, Gary may seem like his talents mainly lie with color tattoos, but he surprisingly extremely good with grayscale, too. He says that most of his clients see him and assume that he prefers to work with color, but he told me that he loves working with grayscale just as much. I asked him to do a realistic/feminine rose on my left shoulder, and I couldn't have asked for a better tattoo. Once I was at the convention, Terry waited til I arrived to draw up the tattoo, which I really appreciated. He also had some great suggestions on ways to tweak the design. This is for piercing only, and only for their current piercer (Rob). I'd give less stars if it reflected on him alone. Rob placed two dermals in my nape that healed perfectly. When I went back after four months to change the jewelry, one was having issues, so he put the old top back on. That fell out within a couple days. He offered to purchase my new jewelry, and took my number to call me when it arrived. He also claimed that the tops for dermals were purely for appearance and the dermal itself would be fine... I thought that sounded odd, but he's a professional. Welp, my skin starts growing over it in less than a week. I tried calling several times, even left messages, and never got a response. I still haven't even heard back about the jewelry he supposedly ordered for me and this was a month ago now. Konkrete Jungle's piercer (who is AWESOME) was able to remove the dermal and show me that the thread was stripped. So either he couldn't tell (bad) or he knew but didn't tell me (worse). Super disappointing since I've always had 5 star experiences with Classic's piercers. I just wish he had been upfront with me. read more

I wanted to get a custom piece done, so I called ahead and asked to book an appointment. The guy on the line insisted that I should just walk in and that I would be taken care of, and refused to book me an appointment. So I walked in with my reference photos, and gave them to the front desk guy. He was really apathetic, and I didn't like the vibe of the parlor (specifically, lots of confederate flag tattoo designs), but I waited for him to speak with the artist. They made me and my two friends wait for almost 30 minutes before they said "we can't do this you need to make an appointment", WHICH I HAD BEEN TRYING TO DO BEFORE. Frankly, that's not even what bothered me the most- it was their flippant attitudes. They seemed like they were annoyed that we were there when trying to give them business... My friends and I ended up going across the street to Time Bomb Tattoo and had a wonderful experience. Moral of the story- TOTAL JERKS. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I got my first tattoo here last year which was a half sleeve from Gary Gerhardt. First off, the shop is extremely clean. I love how they have private rooms for every artist so you aren't just sitting in one crowded room like how most shops are. Gary is an amazing artist. I got my earlobes pierced here -- first piercing I had ever gotten. I decided to ditch the mall scene and have them done professionally. It was pricey, but well worth it. I also am vulnerable to form keloids, however I am not very worried about that happening. Their piercer (name starts with a K) was excellent, informative, friendly, and very very professional. My step-mom even warmed up to the place because of him (she is very conservative, and wanted me to get my piercing done at Claire's). As for pricing, yes it is higher. I paid about $120 for both lobe piercings + the cheapest earrings they had. Make sure to include tip -- they seriously earn it. I was nervous and anxious to get this done, knowing nothing about piercings -- but I was immediately put at ease and was extremely happy with my results. Thanks, Classic Electric!
