I have always been treated with respect when I have called Crestwood Funeral Home with a question…read more I have asked for direction to my uncle's grave marker. The young lady, Michelle, was kind and courteous. She even texted me a picture of his marker and gravesite as I am disabled and I can't walk well on uneven ground with my walker. She went above and beyond what I would have expected of a representative of a large business as this. My niece and I was having a day out together. We visited the gravesites of several of our relatives at more than one cemetery. We ended up at Crestwood and couldn't find my niece's grandparents graves. The cemetery had changed in my niece's memories of the site. I called the office and Michelle again stepped up and attempted to a.ssist us in finding the plots. Thank you to Crestwood Cemetery for being there every time we needed them. Jane Bishop

Instead, what should have been a solemn, meaningful farewell became overshadowed by a deep sense of disappointment and quiet heartbreak that lingered long after the service ended. Our grandmother passed away on a Tuesday, and her funeral wasn't until the following Monday. In those long, heavy days of grief, we believed there was sufficient time for every detail to be handled with care. Yet, when the day arrived, we were met with the painful realization that the flowers that were meant to symbolize our love, remembrance, and final tribute had never been ordered at all. What hurt most was not just the mistake itself, but the way it was handled afterward. When the oversight came to light, we were met with a response that felt distant and insufficient, as though the emotional weight of the situation had not been fully understood. We were told there was little that could be done beyond offering a refund. They did offer to order the flowers once the error was discovered, but this was after the service had ended. The moment had passed, and with it, our chance to honor her as we had envisioned. We declined, because the trust we had placed in them had already been shaken. A refund cannot restore a moment that has already slipped away. It cannot replace the absence of something so symbolic on a day filled with grief. The opportunity to honor our grandmother in the way we had carefully planned was gone, leaving behind a quiet ache that words cannot fully capture. Our family has owned these burial plots since 1944, a place tied to generations of memory and meaning. To stand there, knowing something so important had been overlooked, made the experience feel even more hollow. We were left to carry that disappointment alongside our grief and try to move forward. I understand that mistakes can happen in any profession. However, families place an immense amount of trust in a funeral home during one of the most vulnerable and painful times in their lives. Based on our experience, greater attention to detail, clearer communication, and a more compassionate response could have made a profound difference. I share this not out of anger, but in the hope that no other family has to endure a similar sense of loss layered upon their grief during such an important and emotional time

My family have used Laughlin for my sweet Grandmother's cremation and burial service; my beloved nephew's re-burial service from Florida to Maple Hill Cemetary when my sister and her husband relocated to Huntsville permanently and purchased grave sites for themselves at Maple Hill, and wanted their beloved son to be buried in the same area as they will be; and most recently, for my sweet Momma's cremation and burial. Somehow, there is a connection between Miss Sarah Chappell and my family, although we went to Butler High School, and I would imagine Miss Sarah went to Huntsville. My sister told me the connection, it just escapes me. Miss Sarah is knowledgeable, personable, and helpful! I met her at my nephew's reburial service. From an outsider's perspective looking in at my sister and brother-in-law's implementation of my nephew's reburial from FL to Maple Hill Cemetary in Huntsville, there were a lot of "moving parts" and logistics involved this effort! Miss Sarah was instrumental with removing nephew from his current gravesite, transporting him to Huntsville, replacing him in a new casket because the old one had deteriorated, transporting him to Maple Hill Cemetary, and then, [Phew! Thinking of all these steps, and the various laws and regulations that must be adhered to is wearing me out!] successfully holding a re-burial service for him, and likely, she and her team helped with sister's selection of his beautiful tombstone marker and its install! Miss Sarah and team pulled this entire effort off without a hitch, always remaining sensitive to the emotions and the gravity of this unusual circumstance. Fun local trivia: It was fun to see former Mayor Loretta Spencer was a former co-owner of Laughlin and is now shown on their website as being Secretary/Treasurer of Laughlin Service Funeral Home & Crematory. It was also interesting to see how the funeral home served our community with numerous grants they gifted to local non-profits in honor of their 150th year in business. The Laughlin grants totaled 54,620.50!!! Well done, Laughlin! A lot of back work goes into gifting those grants! Although it is not something we look forward to, I know Laughlin Service Funeral Home & Crematory will always be ready, willing, and able with the utmost professionalism to help out in any way that my family or I need. Thanks Laughlin!
