They said it would take 1 week for them to send over the estimate. They've completely ghosted me for the last 2 months. I've sent three emails requesting updates on their estimate and no response. I'm disappointed that I took a day off from work to meet with their estimator, and now will need to get more quotes. IDS initially responded quickly to scheduling time to come out for the estimate on multistory porch rebuild, roof deck replacement and tuckpointing on my property in DC. They had asked about the scope of the work prior to coming out, so would have known if it was too small for their company. A simple "sorry we are too busy to take on the project" would be the minimum expected professional response from a real company.

Longer story: I was excited to work with Bitarchitects - they have great reviews, I appreciate that they are woman-owned, and in our initial conversations, they were so responsive and confident that they had all the necessary in-house expertise to figure out what was happening in the house we just bought. The structural engineer seemed great during the inspection on 9 July - spent lots of time at the house, took all the measurements, answered all my questions. We chatted about the fact that there is this crawl space under the front room that doesn't have an access panel, so you can't get underneath to inspect the stem walls. He told me he would have the report to me in a week. Six weeks later (18 August), we got the report. And the report said. . .we can't diagnose the problem without access to the crawl space under the front room. So question the first - WHY would that conclusion take six weeks? When it was known at the time of their visit? (It was actually known before that - the home inspector had included it in his report, which we had sent Bitarchitects in advance of their visit.) But okay, they said they could send someone out to create an access door to the crawl space, take some pictures, and then we would get a completed report. So that happened a week ago (28 August), and we've heard nothing. Almost eight weeks now since the inspection, meanwhile there are new cracks appearing in the floors and walls. Communication overall has been extremely frustrating. While assuring us that the (first) report was imminent, I was told several times "don't worry, your house is not falling down, you're not in danger." Which is great of course, but doesn't remotely address our concerns. I get answers to maybe 50% of the questions I ask (fairly reasonable questions, like "will cutting a door in our foundation create structural instability down the road?"), if fact, the only time they respond quickly is when they are asking for payment. I am so so disappointed and frustrated at this point, I don't even know what to do.

When this happened, Eric and I went down to Home Depot together and found another option that looked better, was higher quality, and cost less. The problem is not our pilot or gas, it's the solenoid gas valve part that Chimney.com installed. (A master plumber has identified the issue 100%, but doesn't do gas repairs.) Since the whole device is controlled by remote, we know we did not break it--we never touched it ever, but the like-new fireplace did not come on this year. We were charged full price for the unit, which should have lasted for many years. Now Chimney.com is now wanting another $300 just two years later to repair. Paid a lot for a new unit. Chimney.com they says they are not responsible for quality of their products and will charge for labour to "evaluate" the issue. They act very folksy/ocal--until there's a problem, then they cut you loose. Be forewarned that you need to be lucky because they don't stand by their products sold. This feels scammy.

We had a water pressure problem after he left, and Jimmy Gusky had another tech at the house the next day to resolve it - the solution was really simple and had to do with sediment settlement near a valve when the water main was off for repairs. It was a bit embarrassing, frankly, to have a plumber open the valve when we could have done so ourselves to clear the sediment and restore water pressure. Both plumbers were great about explaining their work and the rationale behind it while they were in our home. I recommend this company for the thorough repairs and friendliness, professionalism of their techs.

The High's technician did not inspect the fire box or damper. He was rude and extremely unprofessional. And clearly had some type bias. We found it astonishing that the company invoiced us for $285.00 covering the 10 minute inspection. On March 20, 2026, we had our chimney and fireplace inspected and cleaned by a top rated DMV chimney service. The new company spent 2.5 hrs at our home and informed us that they needed to clean the flu First in order for them to make a professional assessment. And did not see any need to issue any refrain from use order upon completion of the services rendered, as was done by the High's Chimney technician. Imagine a company conducting a ten minute inspection and then stating we needed over $15k in Chimney repairs. Our legal counsel will file formal complaints with all relevant regulatory agencies.
