we had our 38 year old fireplace replaced in early december 2025. from the initial inspection by chris to the final supervisor's inspection, all deserved a 5-star review. the work team (david morales, guillerimo jordan and rene duarte-delgado) arrived on time each of the 2 day project, worked consistently, and answered all questions. they were ultimate professionals and polite. they prepared the inside work area with carpets, tool mats, and floor to ceiling plastic sheeting to keep the rooms tidy and dust free. on the outside, they replaced our old insulation and some 2x4s and repaired the thermal sheeting that was in place. they cleaned up the outside work areas). the new fireplace looks and operates great. i recommend high's to everyone. kudos to david, guillermo and rene. john hamill, north potomac, md. read more

On March 12, 2026 a technician from High's conducted a 10 minute inspection of our fireplace flu. The entire encounter is on film, as we have security cameras in the area where the inspection was performed. The High's technician did not inspect the fire box or damper. He was rude and extremely unprofessional. And clearly had some type bias. We found it astonishing that the company invoiced us for $285.00 covering the 10 minute inspection. On March 20, 2026, we had our chimney and fireplace inspected and cleaned by a top rated DMV chimney service. The new company spent 2.5 hrs at our home and informed us that they needed to clean the flu First in order for them to make a professional assessment. And did not see any need to issue any refrain from use order upon completion of the services rendered, as was done by the High's Chimney technician. Imagine a company conducting a ten minute inspection and then stating we needed over $15k in Chimney repairs. Our legal counsel will file formal complaints with all relevant regulatory agencies. read more

The website states call for a free quote, however when I ask to schedule a quote, I was told that unless it was an obvious fix that I would have to pay for an inspection/scope of work quote ($289). Also, I mentioned that my house is on the market and I was told that I would have to pay $389 because they needed to do in-depth inspection. Misleading, free marketing. My damper cap was stuck on my wood burning fireplace. High's chimney said they couldn't unstick it and quoted me $6,000 to rip up my walls and replace the entire prefab unit. I got a second opinion. The other company got it unstuck in 5 minutes and charged $100 to apply some WD40 and vacuum out the fireplace. Said the chimney that High's wanted to rip out was in perfect shape other than a bit of rust around the cap. On the other hand, both High's and the second company I called agreed that the second fireplace in my home was a safety hazard and High's quote was competitive with the other quote. read more

They were very nice . Half of the job was done really well, in replacing the liner for the gas fireplace. However, the main problem was not fixed. I had called and gotten several estimates to remove the smoke smell from my fireplace caused by creosote. Highs was the most reasonable and seemed to be the most straightforward. While we replaced the liner, based on various recommendations, the smell is still there. Again, this was the main reason we wanted an estimate. The last time I called two weeks ago, their solution was to put baking soda in the fireplace. It still smells. I feel like since we already paid and they did the work, they are done and don't want to really finish the job. read more

UPDATE 12/3/2020: After an unpleasant experience on the phone with a manager this morning, later today the owner reached out to me. He apologized without excuses for the accidental damage caused by the technicians and promised to order replacement parts for the interior of our stove. Bumping up to two stars pending follow through. 12/2/2020: We have a Hearthstone Clydesdale wood insert and High's Chimney technicians came out this afternoon to clean the chimney and inspect the stove. They were here very briefly, probably no more than 15 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't do a good job inspecting their work before paying for the service. I asked about the inspection, and they said "It looks good, there's no problems with it." After they left I noticed the deck and deck furniture was covered in bits of charred wood that had obviously come out of the chimney and been scattered all about. I had to call the company to ask them to return and clean up the mess. Then they asked me to use my broom (what chimney sweeps don't have a broom or a vacuum of their own?) and didn't even let me know when they left again, they just sped away and left my broom outside. I checked briefly in the unit and noticed that they had left some ashes in the back corners, so I thought "Those corners are hard to get, no big deal, but it doesn't look good for their thoroughness. They were awfully fast, so I doubt they were thorough." Well, it was actually much worse than that. They were downright careless. Tonight we started a fire again to warm up the cold house and as the kindling lit the firebox we noticed in the ceiling of the insert, the firebrick was broken. The technicians destroyed it with their hasty and incompetent...technique? skill? not sure what to call it other than incompetence and carelessness. Unbelievable and unacceptable. Not only do I want a full refund of my $240 but I want my stove repaired at their expense as well. High's is overpriced compared to competitors. I only called them because our usual guy got sick. But NEVER AGAIN will I use this company. I can't recommend them at all. I will update the review as to how they handle this fiasco. As of now, I'm quite upset. No wonder they left so quickly. They were hoping we wouldn't notice their huge mistake. If they had owned it and said oops, we made a mistake, that would be bad enough, but this is completely unprofessional. I recently had some work done by High's. They did arrive on time and worked two days I paid them and then noticed after they had left, that the lever which controls the damper was protruding 9 inches from the fireplace front. I also noticed a hook that was placed near the side of the fireplace. I call the office and was given the "runaround" by whom ever answered the phone; was shouted at and eventually hung up on! I called Tyrone Slater nd he was no help; in fact he chose not to answer my calls. I regret having this company service my fireplace. I have photos to prove my claims. they have been paid and ALL I WANT IS FOR THEM TO RETURN, PUT THE DAMPER CONTROL TO IT'S PROPER SETTING AND PUT THE HOOK BACK IN THE FIREPLACE. Is that so difficult? I was impressed with the kindness of Administrative Assistant Kira Kingsley. I had High's Chimney Service do an estimate for an expensive project. They took lots of photos to help inform my decision to use their company. Downloading and storing the photos was labor intensive and I just didn't have the time to do it. Kira most kindly downloaded them and emailed them to me. Because of gateway limitations, this meant sending multiple emails which she did. One of the photos was a bit confusing and she cheerfully sent me a most informative explanation. Made an appointment with High's for a cleaning, was told I needed to have our fireplace relined and the back wall rebuilt before it could be used again. Was given an estimate of $3175. Same discount offered when I expressed shock and said that I would need another opinion. Called for a second opinion immediately. Like S.W., was just reassured that my chimney was in great shape and that the only possible concern was some very minor brick work to fill in some mortar. And even that could wait until next year. Considering that I have used them in the past, I am outraged that a simple cleaning has resulted in worry and the additional cost of a second opinion. Why they prefer to scam their repeat customers and risk their reputation is beyond me. This is a delayed review, as the work was done in November 2014. I decided to add a wood stove in the basement as an addendum to the electric heat pump which is an energy hog and since heat pumps are not as efficient in heating. I wanted a heat source that would guarantee better dependability than PEPCO, as during a storm the electricity is known to go out since we are surrounded by trees and a fallen tree on a wire a couple of miles away and eliminate our power source. I visited High's showroom and selected the larger model to heat a 2200 sq ft home. I was scheduled within a week and the two workers showed up on time. They spent the entire day installing the unit, as they had to go through an existing fireplace and up a very tall chimney and a very steep roof. The senior technician had to make a hole into the cinder block and cover an old one. He did a fabulous job with the cement repair and new duct work. They were meticulous and efficient in their work, as I noted there were some issues they both consulted each other about to make sure the work was done right. I fired up the stove that week and kept it running almost 24/7 through the entire winter without mishap and kept the heat pump almost completely off. it kept the heating bill very low and It really saved us from a very cold winter, as I'm taking care of elderly parents and they can not get cold! I don't know why others have had scheduling or no show issues, but the crew that arrived at my home did an EXCELLENT job. read more

We recently moved into a home and in our home inspection was recommended that we have our chimney swept and have a crack examined in the back. Whenever I have a contractor in the find out 'if' something needs to be fixed, I assume they'll just say yes to get the business. I was pleasantly surprised when we were told that the crack was extremely minor and wouldn't need any repairs for the time being but they'll keep an eye on it. I appreciated the honesty. We got a Regency fireplace wood insert installed from High's in September of this year. They were very responsive in submitting a quote and honoring specials that were advertised by the manufacturer. In addition - they worked with me on a final price. The installation was scheduled for that week. The 3 technicians were prompt, polite and professional. They completely covered the floor with tarps before starting work and cleaned up efficiently after the job was complete. We love our new stove insert. It is efficient, aesthetically pleasing and built solidly. There was an issue with the surround not exactly fitting our existing fireplace opening. High's worked with us to solve the problem and made sure that we were happy with the total project. Mike Pinto was very responsive and even threw in a complimentary fireplace kit to boot. read more

These guys are absolutely awful. I contacted them because I wanted a fireplace insert. Their guys insisted that our chimney needed refinished and thousands of dollars of other work first, but that they'd be able to install an insert right after (3 days) that work was done. It's been weeks since they did that work was completed and I've gotten no information about installing a fireplace insert, despite many requests for the same. I feel scammed - called them for one thing - They had another thing they wanted to sell and now that they did, they don't care about what I want / what I called them for. We have been using High's for years, and early on, paid for an expensive procedure to remove built-up creosote in our chimney. We were told that if we scheduled High's for an annual cleaning, we would avoid creosote buildup and the expensive procedures needed to remove it. So we did just that. Although we have been struck by how quickly High's workers are in and out the door for these annual cleaning, the inspectors always make a point of explaining that since our chimney is so clean, it didn't take long to do. So imagine our surprise when this year, the chimney inspector tells us that there is such a significant buildup of creosote that we have to have the expensive cleaning again. Particularly odd since this was a year we used it less than usual because we were out of town so much. When I called and talked to the office manager about this, the company took no responsibility for the buildup --even though they have been doing all the maintenance for years--and offered no alternative but the expensive cleaning. It was a very disappointing response. Clearly, there is no interest in keeping longtime customers, so we will hire someone new to maintain our chimney from this point forward. read more

The technician didn't do very good job for the cleaning, and proposed a $4500 project to fix the cracks on the crown of the chimney and install liner. I don't recommend this company. read more

I highly recommend Highs - they have excellent customer service, they show up on time, their prices are reasonable, and they are very thorough. They came through for me when the other chimney service I used did not do a complete job and even broke a piece on the chimney cap and then refused to come back to do it right. I am selling my house and after trying (and failing) to get the original guy back before the next inspection, I called Highs with a 2day window to get it done. They showed up the next day and did a fantastic job, including repairing the chimney cap. The General Manager Luis Aguilar is friendly, professional, and did a great job. After our new home was built, my wife and I quickly learned that the pre-fab fireplace that came with the home was not ideal. It was a pre-fab gas unit and we wanted big natural wood fires. I called High's and Luis came out to discuss our options. He was a no-nonsense straight-shooter. I like that. His experience in chimneys was obvious. He worked with me on pricing and gave us a GREAT deal. Let's see how things go... The crew led by Adiel (sp?) was skilled, courteous, fast, and clean. Adiel went the extra mile to find me brick that I saw on a neighbors home down the street. They got to work right away on Monday after signing and the whole job was finished in about 3 weeks. Our old chimney was just a metal duct (made for gas), inside a stick built "chimney" wrapped in siding (like the house itself), without any foundation (cantilevered off the house). The new chimney is SOLID with over 6' foundation and beautiful brick, with stone/slate accents. The interior is amazing. A huge opening capable of 8 log fires. Stacked stone all the way to the ceiling, with a big hefty mantle. We love it. It's a "wow" factor when walking into the family room. And we love the price. I have the proposed contract drafted by High's Chimney Service, Inc, and I am staring at it right now. I was mistaken on one point from my initial review though -- the "deal" was for $2,100, not $2,000. Mike P, I can fax this document to you (or any other potential customer interested in seeing it), and now I plan on filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Without going into the details, I too had an experience after using them for over 10 years for our maintenance, when we sold our house, they told us for a home inspection repair that we needed close to $4,000 in work. We called two other chimney services and both came in at around $1,400. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised this has happened to other people. I was so mad at them because they did our service and they were the first people i called and I trusted them. I wasn't even going to call anybody else - the work was basically theirs but they got greedy. Luckily, I had the good sense to call somebody else. Get a second opinion if you use this company and they quote you major work. I called them for a routine cleaning of my chimney after having a squirrel's nest in there about a year ago. The nest fell into the fireplace, squirrels and all, but I thought there might still be some debris remaining. They told me I still had a nest--and that it was now compacted--and that they couldn't even get their poles up the chimney because of it. They also told me I needed to reline my chimney at a cost of about $2,600. They said it would take at least $500 to deal with the nest. I called another company for a second opinion only to find there was NO squirrel's nest at all. This second company got their poles up the chimney without a problem, cleaned it, and told me that no lining was necessary. I was only charged for the cleaning. read more

Similar experience to many other reviews (it's also worth your time to view the legitimate reviews that Yelp hides at the bottom of the page due to their flawed "algorithm"). Scheduled a cleaning; two techs show up towards the end of the window, one immediately throws a ladder up while the second one comes inside after five minutes. Based on his appearance and manner, he apparently was just laid off from the circus or paroled from prison. He proceeds to tell me that because I have a masonry flue, they can't clean it, and I need to knock it all out and install a new one for a couple thousand bucks. Guess what, I'm in luck! If I give them the go ahead RIGHT NOW, they'll apply the cleaning cost to the work. I say that we really don't have the spare cash right now, but if they leave an estimate with a statement of work, we'll be happy to call them back. He ignores everything I say, and says that since they're in the area already, he'll give me a discount for having them do it RIGHT NOW. I again explain that we don't have that kind of cash lying around at the moment. He then gets on the phone to his boss, and holds a conversation straight out of the cheesiest of used car sales theatrics. It would have been hilarious if it weren't so aggravating. Guess what? More great news when he hangs up. The boss has authorized a great discount for us to do it RIGHT NOW TODAY. I barely got him out of the house at this point; the shotgun was going to come out if it had taken another five minutes. In summary, by their own admission, they didn't even do the work I paid for -- that every other sweep before and since has had no problem with-- and I know they didn't because they didn't pull out the woodstove and clean the debris from the shelf; and then they tried to strong-arm me into unnecessary work with high pressure tactics. This company is a bunch of scammers. There are a surprisingly large number of sweeps in the area; go with one of those and avoid this outfit. Can't believe they're still in business. read more

We wanted to get our chimney repaired and as part of the cost was a replacement of the cap. We paid $1500 to have some brick work done (which I thought was reasonable). But they left and never put on the cap. They claimed they did not have one at the time and would be back. It is now 5 days later and I had to call and complain. I still have not heard from them. I had a horrible experience with High's and can't recommend the company. Their technician was friendly, but all he did was take apart my gas stove and clean the logs. When he left, my gas stove didn't work. When I called him, he said he would order a part to fix it and asked me to reschedule another appointment for an additional $250 (I had already paid $250 for the 1st visit.) I got a call the day of the 2nd (weeks later) visit saying the wrong part had been ordered. I never heard from Highs after that, so I called and asked for my first $250 back. I was told 3 weeks ago that my money would be refunded, but I'm still waiting. Dealing with Highs has been one surprise after another and my gas stove was never fixed. Best to avoid this operation. This was a fairly complex installation due to some necessary and critical angles in the chimney and they did a great job. Recently Louis came back to do an inspection and cleaning of my chimney. The service for both engagements was first-rate. Louis is not only knowledgeable, respectful and prompt, but he is also a very customer-committed professional and a genuinely nice guy to deal with. I called for a standard inspection - they told me the tech would use a video camera, inspect the outside of the chimney, etc. The two-person crew rolled up and the lead guy was on his cell phone, using profanity as he got out of his car my neighbors were walking by - not a great first impression. He came in, looked at the chimney visually for about sixty seconds and told me the problems and the work that needed to be done with it. He graciously told me to get on my back to look up the chimney myself. A second minute hadn't passed before he was talking about 10% off discounts for the work. My gripe is this: while I understand he is a pro, may be right, and the price may be fair for the work that may need to be done, a company should provide what they advertise. If you agree to a thorough inspection for $129 using X, Y, and Z, you should deliver on that in the same way I should pay my bill. If you don't, it feels like a bait and switch and it makes me never want anyone else to use your business. I called the company right as the tech left letting them know I'd write this review, they offered to send another tech out but I didn't see how that made any difference at this point, they were getting paid and they gave me a quote for follow up work regardless. read more

We called HIgh's on a Thursday to request an urgent chimney cleaning between snow storms! Our nearly 70 year old flues were inspected with a camera which showed that time and the earthquake had taken a serious toll. The very next morning (a sunny Saturday--there was one) , the most professional, cheerful, diligent team of chimney repairmen showed up, on time with a vast array of equipment and materials to re-line and cap our three flues before the next snow. They respected both our gardens and our slate roof as they worked with as much grace and skill as Burt and his team in Mary Poppins, When they left around noon on Sunday, there was no evidence of High's Chimney Service visit except that our chimney's have another 70 years of service life. It was costly, but the level of skill and material that was provided seemed commensurate, once every 7 decades. read more
