Although mini cupcakes were not listed on her menu, she was able to provide them. Also, you can ask her about gluten free desserts. You can have more than just macarons. Compliments I received... "Did you make the food? The salmon and tri-tip were so juicy." "This is better than most wedding food." 2 people inquired who I used to cater for the event. I received general praise that the food was good. I received explicit praise that the petit fours and fruit tarts were good. The mashed potatoes were thick but good. Passion for catering's setup and tear down went smoothly. It was maybe 20-30 minutes of setup and 10 minutes of tear down. I appreciate that they were able to provide decor for the food tables. It was truly one of the best catering experiences I have had from the professionalism of the onsite staff to the exceptional quality of every dish served. I was unfortunately too busy managing the event (and enjoying the food) to take photos, but the menu absolutely deserves recognition. Highlights included the perfectly seasoned Farmer's Market Scramble, Chicken Apple Sausage, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce, and Herb Roasted Potatoes for breakfast. Lunch featured incredibly tender Short Ribs, perfectly glazed and moist Grilled Chicken, grilled polenta, and the best honey butter cornbread I have ever had. Our guests consistently commented on how outstanding the food was...and this group is not easily impressed when it comes to catering. A sincere thank you to Pinky and the entire team for delivering such a seamless and memorable experience. Anyway, I got a steak, al pastor, Chile verde and the 2 different shrimp variant tacos. All of them checked out, not a single weakness on the menu. The salsa was on the more bland side. If they bring some more heat or flavor, this place could be unstoppable. Especially for the area, because I haven't really found a spot I could put my name next to. All in all, this is an authentic mexican joint that can be enjoyed by all walks of life. The service was great, as well.. the staff was friendly and patient, answering all of our questions. We have our favorites from their menu but they host a variety of curries, proteins, and small bites/street eats. Panipuri - crispy balls ready to be loaded up with lentils, delicious fillings and sauces, these mouthfuls are great for starters but you'll find yourself eating these throughout the meal not only because you're hungry but also because you just can't get enough of them. Samosas - hearty fried dumplings packed with potatoes that are perfect for eating on the go. Great by itself or with sauces and curry, these hot pockets are a burst of flavor that will stuff you up. Goat curry - full of flavor and a bit on the spicy end for those sensitive to capsaicin. Pair with naan or rice and you'll be golden, from the tastes you'll be experience as well as the heat! Butter paneer/chicken - the sweetness of the curry is subtle but the creaminess is what will win you over. Smothered over chicken or paneer, this is a delicious palate pleaser. Biryani - solid staple, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Great by itself or paired with some curry or a grilled entree. Salmon - delicious but a bit overcooked for my liking but in a pinch, omega-3s can be supplemented in this meal. Overall, Phulkari satisfies our craving for Indian curry any day and it's great knowing that the experience will consistently be a good one anytime those cravings come up. We haven't had a chance to dine in but would welcome the opportunity to visit for a sit down. For now, they're still our go-to for Indian cuisine when we are in the area. Anyways, they checked on us several times while we looked at the new menu, encouraging us to ask questions if we wanted. Rice is complimentary with each curry-type dish. Our food came quickly. When they noticed we had eaten half our rice, they repeatedly offered us rice and we said no thanks. Then they brought it anyways. We didn't mind, they were very eager to give good service and to be present. They refilled our glasses once they got low. At the end of the meal they came over and discussed the food with us, let us know about the new ownership and how they've changed the menu, and that they are using all fresh ingredients. They seem very eager to provide good food and service. The dishes were both flavorful. The vegetables in them were fresh tasting. Neither was at all spicy-- afterwards they let us know that they are doing all the dishes mild (Castro valley lol) so if you like your Indian food spicy you will need to tell them explicitly when you order.

We hired Talavera Tacos for our baby shower this past weekend based on glowing recommendations from…read morefriends and family. While the food eventually arrived, the experience leading up to and during the event was fraught with unnecessary stress. Initial communication was great, but it trailed off as we got closer to the date. Despite their "quick response" phone number, my calls and texts went completely ignored. To make matters worse, the voicemail changed from a personal greeting to a generic one 72 hours before my event, leaving me terrified that we had been scammed. We increased our headcount from 65 to 75 a week prior. After being told this was fine, I was sent an incorrect invoice that ignored the new guest count and asked for a second $300 deposit I had already paid. It took multiple follow-up emails just to get a confirmation on the final numbers. On the day of, the staff arrived promptly and set up on time. However, only 30 minutes into service--with only 30 of our 75 guests fed--they completely ran out of cilantro, onions, and grilled peppers. When I followed up the next day, they claimed they prepared for "70 guests." Even if that were true, it wasn't the 75 we paid for, and it certainly doesn't explain running out of basic toppings after 30 people. I'm incredibly glad we didn't use them for our wedding last year as originally planned. It's disappointing when the service doesn't match the reputation. 2 stars for due prompt service and the guests that got all the food really enjoyed the steak & shrimp.
