I was looking for a new Primary Care doctor and found Dr. Sobel through my provider. As of today I have made 6 attempts to call his office over the last 2 weeks with no response to my messages, It appears you can never talk to an office staff and they do not care to respond to messages that have been left for them. Dr. Sobel may be a good doctor but his office staff/service leaves a lot to be desired. If it is so hard to get hold of them to make an appointment I cannot imagine what it would be like to get a followup/referrals or prescriptions. read more

First I will say that from everything that I saw, Dr. Sobel is a good doctor. But visiting his practice felt like a money-grab the entire time. First, the parking lot is more expensive than parking outside of the Staples Center. It is disheartening that the Marina Hospital and the other practices have such a high profit-margin for their patience seeking care. After going in for a yearly physical, I was shocked to see my bill the next month. The doctor's office booked all of the services separately so nothing was picked up as it was communicated to me originally. A 20-minute quick checkup resulted in a huge bill after Dr. Sobel barely saw me. I have been to other LA doctors for the same routine and never had to pay outside of my expected billing. I would choose another doctor, or be very clear about what you are being billed for at this practice. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Sobel by a coworker who raved about how lovely he was. I live in Marina Del Rey, so it was a no-brainer since I wanted a recommendation of someone close to my house. I called the office 5 times to make an appointment. I left messages during office hours (no near lunch time) stating who I was, who referred me, and that I'd like to schedule my first appt. I never got a return call. I left my final message yesterday just stating that the voicemail says "we are guaranteed to call you back within 24 hours, but hopefully soon", and that hasn't been the case and this would be my last attempt to make an appointment. This doesn't reflect on the doctor or his skills as a doctor, but I can't imagine being a patient there and being completely unable to reach my doctor after 5 calls/ messages. I think that's just bad business. I'll be looking elsewhere for a primary doctor. :( read more

I decided to try this doctor because he is very close to my house and he is part of a very good hospital, Cedar Sinai. But if it were for some of the reviews here I wouldn't have come and that would have been a shame. I called a couple of times and nobody was available. Finally I left a message with my phone number. The next day Ana in the front desk returned my call and got me an appointment for the next day. I find it totally acceptable. Doctor Sobel was very nice and professional. Can't believe I've waited 4 years to write this review... should have written the review after the first time I visited Dr. Sobel. I found Sobel in my medical insurance Network Directory, did some research on him, and decided to give him a shot strictly off of Yelp reviews. I have relocated 3 times since my first visit with Sobel, and I still commute down to Marina Del Rey to see him because I basically would not trust my health and medical needs to the hands of anyone else. Dr. Sobel is, hands down, the best doctor I have ever had. I have persistent medical issues and Dr. Sobel has treated them all -- he is always on time, always available to see me, thorough in his research and analysis, offers EXCELLENT referrals to specialists when necessary, and doesn't judge me. He is kind, friendly, and treats his patients with the utmost respect. All of that said, I think my favorite thing about his office is how full-service it is. They can perform x-rays on site, many lab test results can be provided on the spot... he truly is a one-stop shop for the whole gamut of routine (and sometimes NOT routine!) tests, exams and procedures one might need. I am a really big fan of Doctor Sobel. The equipment and look of the office is a bit old. But for a general practitioner, it's good enough. Parking's also a pain in the butt, but i usually just part at the McDonald's next door. He's a very nice man who talks to me about my problems and even asks about my personal life. I am a current patient and it's literally impossible to reach the office. I have called exactly 12 times over the last 3 weeks, and left messages each time, and have not gotten a single call back. Every single time you call it goes to another line that asks you to take a message. There is also no email address online. The staff is extremely incompetent and I would not recommend going here. read more

I've been going to Dr. Sobel for about a year now and really respect and appreciate him - both professionally and personally. He knows his medicine and is genuinely a nice man who cares about my health. His staff is also great - friendly, organized and punctual. As far as parking goes - there's some neighborhood parking in the area - look for it. I think off Mindanao Way. And as far as what others say about the furniture in the office- it's not bad at all & honestly, I could care less. Adore Dr. Sobel. Office isn't the snazziest as others have pointed out, but he is a wonderful doctor. Lovely bed side and such. You get same day appointments and the staff is nice. The dear doctor has seen me though pneumonia and two bouts of Strep, so I adore him. Plus there is a little pharmacy in the same building where scripts are usually ready in ten minutes, perfect as you don't have to make another stop before you run and get under your covers. read more

Dr. Sobel was the first physician I saw when I moved to LA. Everything has been difficult with his practice from reception to billing. I have an issue and it has been a month and a half and I have yet to receive a call back from him. I have called on multiple occasions and the office keeps telling me he will call back soon. Alongside that, the appointment felt rushed and I am not happy with the quality of my treatment. read more

so i go to see my physician yesterday for my semi annual checkup. i had had a bad week and my clinical numbers weren't as good as i expected. i was "down". doctor sat and listened to me ramble for 20 mins. i could tell he wanted to take notes,but he didn't. he looked at me like he had nothing else to do and let me talk till i was talked out. that's a 5 in any review. thanks doc read more

Been to practically everyone in the marina in the past 20 years. Sobel wins hands down.

Dr. Sobel is wonderful! My dad goes to him. My grandparents went to him when he just started his practice. He is always extremely pleasant and respectful. He has babysat me through staph and allergies. He is always calm and composed. Most recently, I had a 2nd, almost 3rd, degree burn and he treated me very well. However, I had an allergic reaction to the oral antibiotics and his receptionist catered to me and helped me through the disaster. And, she rescheduled me earlier the next day, just in case. Thoughtful. Nonetheless, he kept his eye on me and made sure I was okay, after my rather severe reaction. He had prescribed me an epi-pen prior, just in case, that saved my life. His nurse is fantastic, she has given me a painless cortisone injection with a minor scar from a prior allergic reaction. I have nothing, but great things to say about Dr. Sobel. While this Dr. may be a fine physician he is way too expensive and price gouging and therefor charging the insurance companies way too much which amounts to fraud. He charged much much much more than any other Dr. I saw for the same issue.I would be very careful checking his fees and getting them in writing before you visit. I got them over the phone and was charged 9 times more than I was quoted by phone. read more

Dr Sobel has been my doctor for the past 10 years, he is the absolute, hands down best Doctor you could ask for. He is thorough and caring, he is amazing, his office staff are wonderful and there has been the same nurses and same receptionist for years, they all go above and beyond to make sure that you get the very best care available and my mother who now resides in London was also his patient and misses him terribly. I'm sure Dr. Sobel is a great doctor based on all these reviews, but I'll never know because I cannot get a hold of him. I've called over several days and left voicemails to make an appointment and no one has responded to me. There is no email or online booking feature that I've found on any site. I saw someone else point this same problem out in their post and they found a solution by just stopping by the office. I don't think that is the correct solution to this problem. read more

We had a little problem with scheduling and not only was she extremely rude but she hung up on me twice. Dr. Sobel is a breath of fresh air! His office is not the most modern, but it doesn't have to be. He is thorough with every visit and never rushes. He is completely up to date with what's going on in the world of medicine, but for example instead of putting you on high blood pressure meds RIGHT THIS SECOND!, he might suggest diet changes, meditation, etc. Obvs if meds are needed right away then he will give you just what you need. Electronic scrips to your pharmacy of choice, X-rays done right there in his office, great front desk (Anna), awesome assistant and best of all, his impeccable bedside manner and easy, cool and caring demeanor are all you need to make a doctor visit more enjoyable! read more

Long time patient, but no longer. Office staff is this doctor's biggest weakness, and your biggest risk. Disorganized, they lose X-rays and other patient records over time. Offensive and combative, they refused service in an emergency situation because their computer INCORRECTLY showed a small balance due. Finally, Dr. Sobel, who has great bedside manner, is rarely in the office nowadays, and his associates charge aggressively to cover his patients. Went there with my wife for the AOS medical exam. Even though we did not have vaccination records from our country where they are compulsory, he completely ignored the vaccine marks left on our arms skin saying they were irrelevant and had new vaccines/tests performed. He also had my spouse have another chest X-Ray even though she just had one about 6 months earlier. Finally, our AOS application was suspended on the grounds that the medical report was incomplete. We had to go back to him, and he gave us a new sealed envelope without even apologizing, not to mention a refund for the trouble caused. read more
