Dr. Uyeki does not take United Health Care Insurance anymore even though UHC's website for 2019 says that he is in Network for 2019. The Dr. says that they have not been with UHC for years but UHC says otherwise. This doctor is very selective about the types of insurance he accepts, and the plans in each insurance company he accepts so before coming here I would first call the insurance company to confirm and then double confirm with Dr. Uyeki's office. This can change year by year so always check each Jan 1 as doctors dip in and out of insurance networks. This Office is closed on Thursdays. They speak fluent Japanese here and that clientele makes up a large part of their practice. This Dr. also does not do x-rays in office anymore but does do blood draws and then sends them out. He used to take blood and x-rays and develop them in office--no more. On my most recent annual exam in 2018 on a Friday, he called me the next day on a Saturday to say all the blood results are okay that he had results on before all were completed. By the following Monday the rest of the results were in but he did not call again to say those were okay--I suspect because there was no problem. But after looking after all the results I saw that one test was not ordered that usually is every year (PSA) so I called the office to report that and they got it tested that week. He did not call on that result, I guess because it was okay. The long and short is that with the way medicine is practiced in Los Angeles for years and the influence of Insurance Companies--you need to be very proactive and keep records to compare on your own. The blood draws here are professional and leave no mark. You have to pay for parking in this building. The staff is pleasant. If you don't have insurance, they do take cash--call and ask them for a quote. This office is part of Cedar Sinai and if they refer you it will most likely be to a Cedar doctor. read more

Dr. Uyeki has been my GP for over 5 years, and he's the best one I've ever had. His bedside manner is fantastic. When he walks into the exam room, he always starts by asking me how life is going and recalls details I've mentioned during previous visits. He listens attentively when I tell him about symptoms I've been experiencing and plans out clear, logical steps to address them. Anytime he's referred me to be tested for something, he's followed up with me about the results within a day or two of the test. He's smart, genial, and well-connected to great specialists around LA. The DR. never showed up , after his assistant Danielle confirmed we were on the correct video of zoom , she could see us on video. 1st they wanted payment which we paid . The Dr. wasn't even in his office . Danielle explained he was at his home because his back hurt & his wife was ill. We were counting on this visit, as my Daughter is in need for her asthma inhaler . I first saw him when he was at UCLA Health in Culver city in 2003. I don't visit doctor's office regularly, but I consider him as my primary care doctor and he's the best of all the doctors I've seen. Every single visit to Dr Uyeki's office is great. He's such an awesome doctor! He's very caring, energizing, funny and definitely skilled/experienced. He always follows up with blood/urine test result by the end of the same day of my visit with detailed explanations. He's fluent in Japanese, one of the receptionists and the nurse lady are Japanese, so this is a perfect place for Japanese speaking people like myself:) His staff are very nice and helpful, the friendly nurse lady is skilled! I HATE needles but it's never been painful when she draws blood from me and she's quick! The receptionists kindly call you a few days in advance to your appointment for confirmation. Everyone in this office is polite, friendly, well trained and very professional. Office is very clean. Parking...They don't validate and daily rates are $3/15 mins, max $18. I usually park on the street and walk to the building. Be sure to reschedule/cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance or you will be charged $150 (they will have the paper for you to sign on your first visit). read more

One of the most attentive and personable doctors I've seen. The entire office is incredibly friendly and they do a great job at making you feel comfortable as they guide you through the whole process. Smiles all around. I'm an active health insurance agent and out of all the doctors that I've seen clients go to, I don't think there's a better internist in West LA. He does take group PPO (as long as it's full network PPO) and Medicare and some individual EPO/PPO plans (as your agent to check for you or check on your insurance company's website carefully). In an age where lots of West LA doctors are becoming "cash only" or even worst "concierge annual fee + cash only", it's a big sign of relief that he's not one of those doctors, but someone who seems to practice for the love of medicine. Dr. Uyeki is an honest and very funny internist. Makes an effort to get to know you and your lifestyle and puts you at ease when he's with you. He is the only doctor that I know that will call you the same day or following business day to discuss your lab results over the phone. Now that's first class service and not the norm in the industry, albeit much appreciated. His office staff is also very good, they usually get everything right the first time and are also quite friendly. Probably the best internist in West LA and I happily recommend my clients to go to him. Sometime in 2015/2016, he switched from the UCLA to Cedars Sinai medical group which can be seen as an upgrade by some. read more

Dr. Uyeki rocks. Yes - in addition to being a Bruin (always a good sign) - Dr. Uyeki is an intuitive, down-to-earth guy who listens to his patients and will do whatever he can to help. He doesn't rush through appointments and makes you feel comfortable but he's also a real person who realizes what insurance does and doesn't cover, and he makes an effort to be aware of it. Everyone's review here is spot on. I recently moved up to W. LA so I had to find a new primary care doctor. I lucked out with Dr. Uyeki cause I literally just chose him out of the list of in-network doctors. He is very friendly, efficient, and thorough. My girlfriend thinks he is TOO thorough (i recommended her to him) because he will take a full battery of tests, but personally I prefer it that way. I think her gripe with all the tests is that her insurance sucks balls and so she pays an arm and a leg for all the tests. The only thing thats kinda bleh is the parking sucks around the area (not his fault, its W. LA) and he must be a popular doctor because it is often difficult to get an appointment on short notice. That being said, even when he cant see you, he will follow up to make sure everything is OK. There was one time when I was having extreme stomach pains, so I called to make an appointment. Unfortunately they were unable to fit me in for 2 days. Dr. Mike called me back later that day to try and do an over the phone diagnosis and recommended that I not wait the 2 days and go check into the ER. Even over the phone he was spot on with his diagnosis (appendicitis). Luckily I went in before my appendix burst so they were able to get the surgery done quick and easy. Good thing I didn't wait the 2 days. Only other thing is he never seems to remember me (not that i see him that often, maybe one or twice a year) until he sees my chart. Then he always asks "you still smokin that pot?" and chastises me about it. Funny thing is, he doesn't say that its bad for my health or my lungs, the point he always brings up is that "you never know how its processed and if its dried incorrectly it can develop mold which can be harmful if ingested or smoked" Spot on doctor. Hopefully he doesnt take on too many patients. I hate waiting as it is. read more

Dr. Uyeki is the best doctor I've had in my life. He's friendly, knowledgeable, and takes time with you during a visit. I NEVER felt like he was trying to rush me out the door or tack on extra charges. There is a clear and obvious difference between him and your "average" doctor. Also the staff are great. Nearly six years later I'm happy to report Dr. Uyeki is still the best doctor I've had. My partner needed emergency care on a weekend awhile back. We called his doctor for advice (NOT Dr. Uyeki) and waited and waited. He never called back. I called Dr. Uyeki and he called back immediately and gave us the information we needed and we headed to the ER. The other doctor? He called us back on Monday. Douche. Parking in the building is stupid expensive, so I've found parking on Barrington Ave and just walked. Feeding a meter only costs a couple bucks. read more

It's easy to get an appointment with him or get through to the office on the phone (as opposed to, say, my gynecologist, also wonderful and also with Cedars, but I need to wait months for an appt. and nearly that long to get through to the office on the phone), everyone there is extremely personable, professional, and friendly, as is Dr. Uyeki himself. He immediately makes you feel at home and welcome, never rushes, always is up to date on all your information, listens very attentively to any and all issues you might have, and follows up extremely promptly with any and all test results. Not to mention he answered a plethora of questions for me on their day off (Thurs., oddly) which I emailed him through the mycslink portal. Now if that isn't a great doctor, I don't know what is. I needed a new primary care physician in Los Angeles, so I went to Yelp to see what was good. I looked for someone near work and found a great office. Dr. Mike A. Uyeki and staff were not only timely, pleasant and welcoming but highly efficient. I was welcomed with a warm smile by the receptionist and some paperwork to fill out. She was clear and helpful with her instructions. Shortly after I was seen with Dr. Uyeki, right on time, for a small consult before our exam. He asked the usual questions along with some extras just to get to know me. Friendly, putting me at ease immediately. I was taken to an exam room to have my usual measurements taken by an extremely kind nurse. They even measured my heart rate with an EKG, a new one for me...I was very impressed on how much data they collected for a simple physical. I spent some more time with Dr. Uyeki. He addressed my concerns and let me know they'd be in touch with blood work results. Within a handful of hours I received a call from Dr. Uyeki, with some of my lab results. I was stunned by the speed at which I was getting information. There were more test to be done and he'd call if anything was out of the norm within the week. I highly recommend Dr. Mike A. I finally decided at the age of 40 to grow up and look for a permanent primary care physician. Dr. Uyeki's reviews were exactly what I needed to see: that he's attentive and accountable (calls you the next day with your blood test results). I can't remember the last time I had a test done and got a call from the doctor -- I've always waited, hoping to get a call, and then I'd ultimately break down and call myself, only to have to call again because they're not responsive. I went in for my first appointment (it was for a physical) yesterday and he spent a substantial amount of time interviewing me about my health and family history. He also went through my old medical records with me. His affable nature put me at ease...lots of jokes were sprinkled throughout "the talk". So I've finally found the right PCP. He listens, he offers advice without being prompted, and he called me the next day with my blood results as the previous reviews promised. Also he has a policy that if you're late to your appointment, you may get rescheduled because he likes to keep everything on schedule. I LOVE THAT he has takes other people's (and his own) time seriously. One patient's tardiness can domino into pushing other patients' appointments, and the fact that he puts a kibosh on that makes me respect him that much more. Needless to say, I was called in exactly at my appointment time, and spent a solid hour there because he doesn't treat his office like a factory. He's a doctor who has pride in his work. Good primary care doctor in Santa Monica area that I've been going to for around 2 years. Dr. Mike Uyeki speaks Japanese fluently that is helpful for Japanese clients he also seems to have good experience and will refer you to awesome doctors in your network for issues he cannot tackle on his own. NOTE: Parking is expensive in the building no validation you must find street parking and walk to his office. UPDATE: I'm dropping the rating here to a 3 stars based on Dr. Uyeki's nurse staff and way she handles herself. My last 3 visits to Dr. Uyeki's office with his older nurse staff lady was not very good. The older women that checks your blood pressure and draws blood from you for a regular check up will tell you that she does not make any mistakes and cannot be wrong since she does this job all day when infact she will sometimes draw blood and it will be painful and she has you squeeze a small ball numerous times asking you to keep squeezing it over and over again just so she can find your vain this can be very stressful leading to a higher than normal blood pressure check since she might need to re-do your blood pressure check a second time. Another thing is the office has an old pump valve and gauge blood pressure checker that is only depending on the person counting and listening for noise on the other end. How accurate can this be is a question especially when you're dealing with an over confident boarding cocky older nurse. It's a shame Dr. Uyeki used to have younger staff that would draw blood and check blood pressure very well but now it's a different story. read more

One of the best experiences I've had with a physician. Dr. Uyeki sat down with me and spent 10 minutes getting to know me personally, my family history, etc. Very thoughtful and attentive. Asked several questions to get a comprehensive understanding of my health and background. Then, he completed a physical examination. Also, there is a phlebotomist on site and all lab samples are collected right away. Lastly, he called me the next day with my results and any concerns he had. The reviews for Dr Uyeki were great, so I decided to check him out. The office was able to squeeze me in really quickly AND on top of that, they were ON TIME! I did not have to sit around and wait. Dr. Uyeki rocks. There is little to no wait, his staff is super efficient, and I really like that he'll often bring patients into his office to discuss treatment options, rather than leaving you in that ridiculous hospital shirt. I've been to see him about three times over the past year for various un-fun reasons (bronchitis, food poisoning, etc.) and he always makes a point to call me within 24 hours to check in personally and make sure the meds are working, I'm feeling better, etc. He also has managed to find a way to fit me in on days when he is double and triple booked. I have been a patient of Dr. Uyeki's for more than ten years, and he is superb. Extremely competent (I believe he won an award as a top Resident at UCLA), and patient and kind. He runs tests tests until we're sure we've gotten to the bottom of things. Another great thing is that unlike many other doctors, he provides thorough follow-ups, calls after an appointment to see how I'm doing. An all around great doctor. Highly recommended. I recently sent my daughter to him after her pediatrician was not addressing her asthma in a way that we thought was adequate, and I was very happy I'd done so. She is doing much better now. read more
