I know where everything is and don't often get lost. Everything is open and convenient. The staff is usually friendly and very helpful. My only complaints are that they don't have as much local produce as they did years ago and wish the bigger chains would start allowing more local farmers to sell at their closest locations. It seems better this year than last since they launched a local produce campaign, but I still don't feel like it's at where it used to be or even should be. Especially with the local markets. I also don't like having to wait months for an item I use frequently to be restocked, though this has only happened a few times and has since seem to have changed for the better and hasn't happened recently. My last and biggest complaint is the deli. We buy sliced deli meats directly from the deli counter and it seems if you go for service there almost what seems anytime after supper (more so anytime after 7) that they can't serve you because they've cleaned and shut down the machines for the night. Isn't the store open until 10 now?? I can appreciate and understand areas closing down for 9pm, but 2 hours before so I should still be able to pick up my shaved black forest ham and sliced angus roast beef. All in all we usually try and time for the deli and still enjoy going to this location.

The first time I came in I was energized by all the hustling and bustling in this place. I was also surprised that it was smaller than I expected. Then I realized there were other parts of the building that weren't "store front". We usually come here to stock up on steaks, ribs or whatever meat they have on sale that week. If you're into raw food for your pooch they've got that covered too. Another thing I've noticed is their cashiers are very efficient, aka fast! Walmart and Superstore should send their cashiers here for training. If I really have to be picky, I'd have to say that this is not a place to bring your children. We can only come when one of us stays in the van with our young children. For one, their shopping carts are small. And secondly, this is a very busy place with limited floor space. Also the parking lot on the weekends is a zoo. But even with these "hindrances" we still manage to buy groceries here.

Actually I've been starting to think that Sobeys is doing much better with regards to their selection than their western competitors..especially in the organic/alternative department and with their gluten free products.. Since I live in the US, its still difficult for me to stomach the exorbitant prices of everything, but that aside I still think they do a great job and I love how well organized and clean everything seems to be.

When you walk into the store, the first thing you notice is all the British imported food and snack items.. Reminds me a lot of my childhood and I usually buy something for nostalgia sake. Right beyond that is beverage display case with all sorts of drinks you'd rarely see elsewhere. I especially enjoy their local and import ginger beer selection, as well as Ribena. Beyond that the store is a mixture of exotic cheeses, excellent produce, a deli, health food aisles and the British butchery. This butchery is especially known for its Nova Scotia lamb, which is the best I've bought anywhere around here. The beef steaks are a close second. Needless to say, due to the nature of the products sold here, the prices are exorbitant.. I keep Pete's as a treat to go buy a few luxury food items if I haven't entirely blown my food budget for the month. If my budget hasn't been blown yet, it's sure to be so once I'm done at the Frootique. While many of the items are quite unique, there are many food items that are..items which can be purchased at your regular grocery store for half the price (ie. many of the dairy products). I also think the space the store occupies is much too small... you constantly feel like you're in a traffic jam trying to navigate the narrowly jam packed aisles, and always a hair breadth away from knocking things over.. the store is so cramped, I picture knocking something over as having a domino effect.. dropped a bag of chips?...there goes the whole aisle. The check out staff are fast, friendly and on the ball with keeping registers open. I don't necessarily see this as good customer service, though... since the store is so cramped, if long lines were to form then customers in line to pay would take up half the retail space (I've seen this happen here more than once). Oh well, there are worse addictions to have. At least this one will help me keep my girlish figure... Avery's is my favourite place to shop for local produce, with the possible exception of the Brewery Market downtown. Their wares are always fresh and tasty (significantly more so than at one of the chain grocery stores I would say, but maybe I'm a produce snob too...) and they provide a great deal of variety. Prices tend to be fairly inexpensive too. Aside from the fruits and veggies, they also sell many other items. Their homemade fudge and baking are excellent (though not so good for the girlish figure...). As well, they offer a selection of snack foods, such as nuts and candies, which they package themselves, and an ice cream counter during the lazy days of Summer, when you need a scoop of something cold and sweet to cool you down. Also available are gardening supplies and a few rows of items you would find at a typical convenience store (cans of soup, toilet paper, over the counter pain medication, etc.). They even have a freezer with your basic kinds of meat and some frozen berries. This NSLC is in a very convenient location in Sackville.. Attached to Sobeys, as most NSLC stores…read moreI've seen, but in a very large retail complex which would allow you to to get all your shopping/groceries done in one go. I am not a fan of the way you have to move from the Sobeys to the NSLC once you have done your shopping. If you have more than a couple of bags of groceries from Sobeys then you can't go into the NSLC without ditching your cart, which often means having to leave, stash your groceries in the car (good luck if you don't have one) and then go back to the NSLC. Kind of a hassle I think. On the other hand they have quite a good selection here.....comparable to some of the bigger NSLC stores in the HRM. Be sure to catch their wine events where they feature a particular wine from a particular region. The store associates are friendly, and if a certain item isn't stocked in that particular store in Sackville, they will call around, or use the computer to find other locations that do carry what you want.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into this location and found it to be very spacious, clean and well laid out. I bought a huge bag of low quality socks for $10, which made me pretty happy. Of course, there are the usual rows of low quality, low nutritional value food items...but at those prices its to be expected. They had a few different nick nacks that I found interesting, but they looked very poorly put together, and I'm pretty sure if some of the items you buy cost even 1c, you still wouldn't get your moneys worth. But all of that is just the nature of the Giant Tiger chain and brand, and not the location itself, which I really liked for it's clean, welcoming feel. So if your budget is on a shoestring, I really recommend this GT location.
