When I noticed my dog Ruby acting strangely while eating and spitting out her food, I checked her mouth and was surprised to find what appeared to be a fracture on one of her large back teeth. I immediately emailed the clinic with a few photos, and within 20 minutes I had both an email response and a phone call (just in case I missed the email), along with an appointment confirmed for 8am the very next morning with enough time reserved to perform an extraction if needed. The responsiveness alone was impressive. At drop-off, the surgery technician, Jorge, was incredible. He was knowledgeable, personable, and immediately put us at ease, especially since this was Ruby's first surgery requiring anesthesia. During our conversation and bringing up a certain topic, he mentioned he recently attended a dental conference which reassured us that the team is committed to continuing education and staying current with best practices. Dr. Gertz, whom Ruby has seen previously for routine care, was wonderful as always. She performed the initial exam, confirmed that the tooth appeared fractured, and explained that the team would call with a definitive diagnosis once dental X-rays had been completed. The treatment plan was straightforward - anesthesia, dental X-rays, bloodwork to ensure levels were appropriate before surgery, and a cleaning with extraction if necessary. A few hours after drop-off, we received a call confirming that the tooth was indeed fractured, although surprisingly still alive. Dr. Luna took the time to thoroughly explain the findings and our options. At no point did we feel pressured. She clearly outlined the pros and cons of proceeding versus monitoring the tooth and explained that leaving it untreated would likely lead to problems in the future. After discussing everything, we decided to move forward with the extraction since she was already under anesthesia. No more than a few minutes later, the team called again because they realized the cost of the updated treatment plan had not been reviewed. I actually hadn't noticed because I already trusted that the recommendation was medically appropriate and that the pricing would be fair (which it was). Still, I appreciated their transparency and professionalism in making sure every detail was discussed before proceeding. When we picked Ruby up around 2:00pm, Jorge spent considerable time reviewing her full-mouth dental X-rays with us and explaining exactly why the extraction was recommended. It was fascinating to learn more about canine dentistry, and we left feeling far more informed than when we arrived. He answered all of our questions patiently and thoroughly (even the ones that were already covered in the aftercare packet we had just been handed!). We also were given a full sized sample of a recommended oral rinse for regular maintenance. Ruby recovered exceptionally well from the surgery, which was a huge relief. She had previously undergone sedation prior to X-rays at another clinic years ago and did not have a great experience, so we were naturally nervous. This time, her recovery was smooth, the extraction site is healing beautifully, and she came home comfortable with appropriate pain medication. She has shown no signs of discomfort throughout the recovery process. I also want to recognize Lauren at the front desk. She was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful throughout the process. She worked with us to ensure detailed notes were included in Ruby's chart to help prevent potential insurance issues and even went a step further by following up with the doctor after we left to request additional documentation that could support a smoother claims process. That level of attention and advocacy is rare and deeply appreciated. Overall, this was an outstanding experience from start to finish. We even received a call a few days after her surgery to simply check in on her recovery. From the front office staff to the technicians and veterinarians, every person we interacted with was compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in Ruby's well-being. The communication was outstanding, the care was exceptional, and we never once felt rushed or pressured. Ruby is family to us, and the trust we place in those caring for her is not something we take lightly. We are incredibly grateful for the entire team and feel completely confident entrusting them with the health and care of both of our dogs. SoCal Vet quoted me 1/3 of the price of other Vets in my area- about $700 for a 20lb doggy with poor dental. The price included blood work, x-rays, anesthesia, meds, AND extractions. My pug needed quite a few teefs removed. They clipped her nails free of charge. The Gentlemen (forgive me, I forgot his name) who went over x-rays and cleaned her teeth is great at what he does! I have since taken her back for a dental check, and brought my other pug. Both were sedated and received the full dental treatment. The price has remained the same for each! She was a stray in an overcrowded/high-kill shelter in Los Angeles, so before coming, we were hoping to meet a very compassionate vet that understands rescue dogs well. We also wanted to meet a vet that wouldn't make us feel rushed with our appointment, which thankfully, Dr. Luna didn't do at all. On one of my last visits, when my male Biewer Terrier was in for a teeth cleaning, I came to pick him up, and my bill was quite a bit more than usual. This was because my normal vet, Dr. Vickie was not there and a new Vet Dr. Gertz had included extra items in my bill that she hadn't inquired if I had at home. Dr. Vickie has never sought to add items without inquiring whether I as a breeder/show dog person had them or took the time to discuss the need for medications or alternatives that would address any particular health issues. Since Dr. Vickie has been removed as a medical provider from the hospital she co-owns, until she comes back, I refuse to bring my pups to SoCal. ------------------------------------------- This is the third review I am writing regarding SoCal Veterinary Hospital. Somehow, management at SoCal are getting my reviews, which are100% based on my experience and completely adheres to the TOS for reviews, taken down. Below is my previous second review which establishes me as a customer of SOCAL since 2022: I will start off by saying this practice was once a 5-Star vet hospital. I couldn't have asked for more from a veterinarian and staff. However, I am compelled to leave a 1-star review because the Vet who has made this practice what it is, Dr. Vickie, was unfairly let go by management. Due to their unethical ploy of releasing Dr. Vickie, I do not trust this practice and do not recommend nor will I go back to SoCal. My last review was removed because it did not provide enough context about the services I've used at SoCal, so here is some backstory. I started going to SoCal in 2022, when I was looking for a new veterinarian. Dr. Vickie came highly recommended within the show-dog and breeder community. After bringing in my first show dog, Elvis, and meeting her, she became my dog family's regular vet. Dr. Vickie is genuine, loves my dogs, and provides treatment plans that don't include unnecessary products to pad the invoice. I have received a multitude of services from Dr. Vickie, ranging from wellness checks for new and visiting dogs to baby teeth extractions for my show dogs. She has assessed my arthritic senior dog, treated sick dogs, and evaluated dogs who seem uncomfortable for reasons unknown to me. Dr. Vickie has calmed my fears, encouraged me, and given sage advice. Additionally, I've had reproductive health visits with my female dogs, including progesterone tests, ultrasounds, and X-rays during the last couple of weeks of gestation for puppy counts. Once the puppies arrive, I bring them in for wellness visits and health evaluations. This should clearly establish the extent of services I've received from SoCal. On top of this I've recommended many, many people see Dr. Vickie for their pet's treatment. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This place is the worst, we brought our old dog, Rocky, here for treatment before he passed away back in the summer of 2022. He was 14-15 years old and was doing ok for his age, he had a hard time walking, had to be outdoors in the day because of accidents, and had fallen over and split his lip that he kept chewing on. We brought him in to be examined, but we were met with hostility from Dr. Vickie Swarowski. We told her we were there to have out dog examined and treated, instead she screamed at us to put the dog down now and sent her assistant to give us their high pricing and paperwork right away. Dr. Vickie had zero empathy for us or our dog, instead of talking to us rationally, she was so quick to judge us as being negligent to our dog. We explained to Dr. Vickie we already had an arraingement for at home services when it was Rocky's time to pass in his own home, and that seemed to anger Dr. Vickie because she wasn't making money off of our grief. The vet reluctantly gave us a prescription to treat his lip and we left vowing never to come back to this greedy and unprofessional vet. Rocky's health went downhill a few days later and he went peacefully in our home. Shortly after, we recieved a weird voicemail about an "incident that happened" but it didn't mention our names. We disregarded the vm as the wrong number or spam. About a week later, we get a call that Animal Control is outside of our gate wanted to speak with us. We were still grieving and asked why he was at our house. He said he was there to look at the dog with the lip issue, and confirmed the vet Dr. Vickie Swarowski called Animal Control on us and that we missed an appointment with her. The vet office never made another appointment with us or even called us to check how Rocky was doing and we told the officer this and that Rocky had passed a few days before. We showed him the death certificate and the officer seemed confused as to why he was called out in the first place because he didnt see any neglect at all, but the effort we made to care for our old dog. The animal control officer had more empathy for our situation than the vet staff, which is pretty sad. Rocky had a great life with us, going camping, making lots of furry friends, and swimming at Fiesta Island. We took excellent care of him for 11 years until the end, if we were mistreating or neglecting our dog why would we be taking him to the vet regularly? Dr. Vickie is a GREEDY LIAR WITH ZERO EMPATHY and unethical business practices. Avoid this location, and don't trust her. And take a look at all her responses to the 1 and 2 star Yelp reviews, with lies, negative responses, blaming the pet owner, and being misleading with services. Stay away from this place! *Update* In response to the reply for my review from Dr. Vickie, I still stand with my review. Looks like Dr. Vickie just copied and pasted the exact same response she used for another negative Yelp reviewer complaining about her and her business services, to my account, again blaming the pet owners. My old dog came in for a split lip that he was chewing on that needed treatment, he had only visited this vet a few times....there were no maggots, no diagnostic testing, or us denying treatment options, she is clearly lying for sympathy to gain customers and keep her scam business running. My cat needed some emergency dental work, and I was having a really tough time finding a veterinary clinic that could help on such short notice. Dr. Vickie examined my three years old Golden Retriever girl, Hazel, who was expecting her first litter in following week twice on Feb 19 and Feb 22. She died on Feb 22, despite she was seen twice by Dr. Vickie and had an examination in the morning of Feb 22nd. Initially, I took Hazel in to see Dr. Vickie because she vomited 12-14 times and stopped eating on Feb 19. Without a culture, Hazel was prescribe antibiotics and appetite stimulant. For a follow up appointment in a morning of Feb 22nd, Hazel was immobile in the office as soon as she got on a scale in the front office. We slide her out to an examination room next to the scale. Dr. Vickie saw Hazel couldn't move so she had a male staff moved Hazel back in the vet's office to examine her. Hazel was brought back and had plopped down after Dr. Vickie examined her. Dr.Vickie said it was normal for a pregnant dog not eating and fetal heart rates were normal at 130-150. She asked if I wanted to do x-ray and I declined because there was no explanation why x-ray was required. I didn't want to x-ray to just count puppies. I would have agreed to x-ray if it was needed to save Hazel. After discussing about a follow up procedure, i tried to leave the room but again Hazel wouldn't stand up on her own so Dr. Vickie had another male staff moved Hazel from the room to her crate in my van. Hazel didn't want to move out from the crate. She weighted 90 pounds so I wait until my husband came home to move Hazel from the crate. We were about 3 feet away from a front door, Hazel collapsed as her water broke and died. As we tried to resuscitate her I called Dr. Vickie's office immediately for help. Her office staff called me back to bring Hazel in to see if puppies could be saved. I drove about 45 minutes back to the vet. I had to go back in the office twice to get someone out to move Hazel out from the car. The staff asked me if I want to scan the puppies, and i said yes. The staff came back and I was told there's no heart beat. I asked for necropsy for puppy count. Dr. Vickie said it would be a half price since Hazel was seen there, but I thought the necropsy would be done by another vet. Dr, Vickie performed necropsy on Hazel and when I requested to send her to another vet, I was told that she had been frozen. It has been more than a few months since Hazel died. I didn't even want to write this review because I reliving with the event, but I need to do it for voiceless victims, Hazel and her puppies. I had her medical record reviewed by a few veterinarians and discussed about her death. I was told that I needed to be an assertive owner. Some vets said it was not normal for Hazel to be that lethargic. I think Hazel should had been kept at the vet's office. I wish I could had taken Hazel to another vet. Dr. Vickie is also show dogs and breed. I felt really comfortable taking my dogs to her clinic as a dog show fancier. I worked obedience with Hazel and her handlers put AKC champion titles on her. She had all health clearances and DNA test done prior to this to make sure she was healthy....... Hazel was easy going girl who loved to please and attentions she received. When I showed up to my dog's last appointment with Dr. Vickie I was surprised to find a different doctor in the exam room. It turns out that Dr. Vickie left and nobody bothered to inform me prior to the appointment. The treating doctor obviously didn't review my dog's medical records, which I could understand if Dr. Vickie left that day, but that was not the case. The new vet tech kept calling my dog "Dog-O" because it seems remembering his name was too hard. They also started charging an annual blood work fee of $150+ for patients on Apoquel (an allergy medication). Apoquel is very safe and most veterinary facilities don't require blood work. I recently changed vet practices and the new doctor said requiring blood work for that medication is "completely unnecessary." read more

I made appointment expecting to undergo surgery to be the final result, but was pleased that surgeon declined surgical intervention as best early intervention method. I can't say enough good things about this veterinarian. Especially Dr. Vickie I have been going here for a few years and I was there again this morning with a pup I rescued and having some issues with. Dr. Vickie is just wonderful, kind and helpful. I can't thank her enough. read more

Our poor old dog was having a hard time. He was on his last days. He had fallen and split his lip due to Vestibular disease that onset quite quickly. Treating the lip at home was no use because he kept biting it. He had also been getting bitten by flys in the hot summer as we had to start keeping him outside because he was urinating on himself requiring us to wash him twice a day, and treat his injuries. When we took him to the vet they recommended putting him down and had little empathy. The vet did not even give him any treatment what so ever. They were not our standard vet so we had only taken him here once before at the beginning of his vestibular episode. They are liars and will probably respond to this review to say we are bad pet owners but this is not the case. What a horrible disrespectful clinic. You have been warned! I explained that we were just looking for a way to help him out in his last days but were still hoping for a recovery (Search for Old Dog Vistibular Disease yourself and you will see what the options are). Rocky was having good days and bad ones, but I understood that it might be nearing that time. I told them that if we were going to put him down we would be using a service to do it at our house so that our other dog would understand, and so that we could spend our final hours together at home rather than taking him into some scary room to be put down. They really pushed us to put him down on the spot because he was just laying there and could not get up at this time. They wrote us a prescription that we ended up not using as he quickly declined over the next two days. We ended up putting our old boy down using the at home service which was IMO a much better way to do it, and also not really any more expensive. Here is why they get 1 star. About a week after we had put our dog down and were still mourning his loss, this place called animal control on us. They wanted to see the dog and or proof that we had put the dog down. Animal control had more empathy than this business. Meanwhile my other happy dog is at the fence wanting to play with the officer. We take care of our animals thus the reason we took him into this vet in the first place to see if anything could be done to help him or ease his transition. The only reason we ended up at this business was because our other vet was too busy and we wanted to see if anything could be done because poor guy was not doing well. Just because we didn't use their services to put him down on the spot they called animal control on us. We will NEVER use this vet again. RIP Rocky In response to the Dr. Swarowski comments below, we had brought him in because we found some maggots on our dog in addition to his lip injury. I had never heard of anything like this happening before so we were very concerned. (like I said the flys were bothering him as the neighbers have a ranch and it was summertime) and gave him a medicated bath and removed them all a couple days prior to brining him in as they could not get an appointment for a couple days. This was not our typical vet, we had only started taking him there recently because our other vet across the way was too busy. We brought him in to be sure the maggots were eliminated and asked if there was anything else to be done to prevent this happening again. They found 0 maggots and told us there was nothing that needed to be done for this issue. So not only did we recieve poor service but the vertrinarian is apparently a liar as well. This is EXACTLY the kind of response you can expect this vet to deliver when you bring your pet in for help. Oh and they never told about this other supposed appointment, or bothered to call us about missing it. Nope, the only call they made was right to animal control to our suprise since we had no idea what was going on when they showed up. We loved our dog and had rescued him over 10 years ago. He had a great life and enjoyed many camping trips together and walks at fiesta island where will distribute his ashes. We did everything we could and this vet acts like were were mistreating him. Even animal control seemed confused that if we were mistreating or neglecting our pet, then why would be be taking him to the vet for help the first place? What a TERRIBLE person you would have to be to blatently tell lies like this. STAY AWAY! read more
