Our cat of 17 years was not doing well. Our regular vet could not see her, so they recommended to take her to an urgent care. Found Mohnacky Animal Hospital online. Called them at 3PM, and they saw my cat right away. I was so thankful for this, as we had driven all the way to another urgent care just to get turned away(they had too many emergencies and couldn't take my cat). Dr. George was very thorough in trying to figure out what was going on with her. Unfortunately, it was our sweet cat's time to go to heaven. Christina, the Director of Mohnacky was so kind and compassionate. If it weren't for her, we probably wouldn't have brought our cat back in, and she would have suffered. Christina helped us through the most painful time for our family. She let us have the room with our sweet kitty as long as we needed, before and after the end of life treatment. Where do I begin?!?! I was left traumatized. I took my dog in and all the tests were correct; I have no issues w that. It's the care, or lack thereof, my dog received. They sedated him bcuz he was stressed and then handed me a dog with little to no instructions except "if his tongue turns blue get him to an emergency vet". He's a French bulldog and if anyone knows this breed, they have a really hard time coming out of sedation. Theo was OUT! He wasn't eating or drinking so I kept calling to ask questions since I was never given any after care instructions (minus the "if his tongue turns blue takes him to an emergency vet"). Monday it started, by THURSDAY when I was the only one calling them...I had enough. No one EVER called to schedule his surgeries, I called Monday evening, Tuesday, Wednesday and THURSDAY. Every time to be told by (even the doctor) they'd call me back, no one ever called. The excuses were endless. While they didn't charge me for anything except the exam, I would not recommend taking your pet here. Thursday AFTERNOON I was told they wanted to switch doctors bcuz Dr Southern (I think that's her name) was "more hands on" but I had already told the front desk around 8a-9a that's day I'd never let them touch my dog again. Clearly the communication is lacking there. Denise* also had an attitude because I asked what my bill was and in which she replied "I'm not getting into it with you." So when it comes to your pet or the bill, Denise has no time or patience for customers. Frustration doesn't even begin to cover what I felt. I found another vet to to do his surgeries...$3000 LESS than Mohnacky and they specialize in the French Bulldog breed. I won't even get into the what Mohnacky was going to charge me...I had a few vets look the estimate I was given by Mohnacky and they were all in disbelief. My quote from Mohnacky was $5575 without his teeth cleaning (another $487 on top of $5575). I paid $3025 for neuter, removal of bladder stones, teeth cleaning and teeth extractions and labs at a vet in San Diego. The new vet also didn't charge me for X-rays since Mohnacky wasn't sharing my dogs medical record with them and they said it was not mine or my dogs fault. I had to call Mohnacky to finally ask for his records, I was put on hold and then hung up on. When I called again I told them I couldn't hold and the girl knew exactly who I was without me even saying a word, with a sigh she said "this is for Theo?" I got the email; they did not email the new vet as they said they would. Mohnacky also changes vets so much, my dog has seen Dr. Saaco, Dr. Yaeger, Dr Bulliard, another at vista I don't remember his name and then Dr. George in a span of 2yrs. I asked the front desk if they rotated doctors through their facilities, she said no. Dr Saaco has been the only one I've liked but she is no longer there and has her own practice in San Marcos. A LOT of red flags! I personally will ever take another pet here or any other Mohnacky in North County. I wouldn't allow them to change my goldfish's water honestly. read more

Thought I left this review years ago. After talking about vet horror stories I was reminded of Mohnacky Carlsbad where I was certain they would be out of business. I had to check. Here I am not only in absolute shock that they are still open but that they have 4/5 stars. I wouldn't believe a 4/10 star rating. This rings false. Anyways my horror began after my dog had a leg injury. It ended up being the ligament and the dog needed surgery, but we were not sure at the time. Took her to Mohnacky Carlsbad for an exam. They did an exam and found nothing of immediate concern and wrapped it in an ace bandage and some gauze that probably cost $5 and charged $75. I was upset but was just happy there was no immediate concern so I paid it. After thinking about it, the bandage wrap wasn't even on the leg that was injured. They wrapped the wrong leg...did they "exam" the correct leg and wrap the leg they thought was wrong...there was some sort of disconnect at nobody's fault other than Mohnacky. I called them very upset. I explained the situation. They told me to come back to wrap the correct leg. I explained I'm not going to do that and I wanted a refund for the bandage. I didn't want to buy that to begin with...$5 bandage for $75 NICE! Apparently you have to pay even more if you want the correct leg wrapped. After back and forth with the person on the phone they were refusing me a refund...I'm not sure what the equivalent of medical malpractice is for vets but this was surely it and they wanted 0 part in trying to make it right. The ONLY thing that got them to refund me was a credit card chargeback. Sickening I had to go to those lengths to make their mistake right. I am in absolute awe this place is still in business. I can not recommend them for ANY level of care for ANY one of your pets. read more

I had already spent a considerable amount at my regular vet and needed assistance. Helping Paws was very generous and Zeus was able to get comprehensive care with Dr. Souther. After my girl had a litter of pups, she became so ill, she wasn't eating, having fever, drinking water excessively, panting, and was curled up for 2 weeks. We took her to 3 other vets, and spent over $2,000- not one Vet could tell me what Dr. Souther was able to in 2 minutes of simply looking at my dog. She had a very visible infection of Mastitis. She did a needle aspiration biopsy in the office and sent us home with a few medications. In one week, my girl was back to normal and put on her lost weight. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! All I can say is WOW! Mohnacky Animal Hospital saved our cat's life. LITERALLY. We found our cat in a pool of blood and urine and he seemed as if he was in so much pain. Every other hospital we called was asking for $200 to just SEE him. No lab work, no medication for pain, JUST a consultation. We are a military veteran family with 4 kids.. having to pay close to $3,000 to save his life was just out of our reach. We love our cat, we adopted him at only 10 weeks. (He is now 4 years old.) Just the thought of not being able to help him and save him already had crossed our minds and torn us all apart. We didn't want to imagine life without him. My fiancé called around everywhere in San Diego looking for resources and options on how to help us financially with what our boy needed. Luckily we found this charity program through Mohnacky called Helping Paws. Christina reached out to us and asked us to immediately bring him in as what we were explaining to her was a life threatening condition. Time was of the essence, and since he was like this for 2 days, we were running out of time. We brought our boy in and they immediately took him back! Sabrina (Binx's nurse) came into the room to speak with us and advised us that Helping Paws was going to cover the expenses! absolutely horrified! they are extremely greedy and drug happy. This is the second time I've taken my cat there and they've given her unnecessary drugs and sedation to do something simple like checking her ears for mites which were obvious and she is very calm and friendly with people there was absolutely no need for sedation, I told them I did not want her to be sedated and they did it anyways just for the money because they make so much more using these drugs. It is completely unnecessary. It's barbaric is abusive it's evil. what type of horrible people would give unnecessary drugs to an innocent kitten when drugs have potentially life-threatening dangerous side effects and it was not necessary whatsoever. she has had this procedure for before and I've also had other cats have the same thing and nobody has ever ever suggested drugs for something so simple. I can't believe they would use such heavy, intensely powerful drugs. One of her eyes are completely closed her pupil take up her entire eye. She doesn't look like the same cat. It's horribly tragic and sad to see and have my baby go through this. Do not do this to your baby! There are humane vets. I've never had an experience like this. This is true greed at its finest. I adopted a dog 1/4 from the humane society. They told me my new pup would need bed rest and to avoid stressing her out and to wait a few weeks to see a vet. They think she was hit by a car and had some pelvic fractures which was why she was not using her back leg. As a lay man, I looked it up and yeah, dogs can heal with pelvic fractures without surgery so I thought OK, no problem. Even my adoption paperwork said bed rest till 2/5. Well I emailed Mohnacky 1/6 for an appointment and they said to bring her in right away. I'm so glad I did. Her pelvis was completely broken. And the humane society left her like that over a month before I adopted her! Dr. George said the surgery would be complicated because of the scar tissue that had developed over so much time passing and the severity of the break, but that he was up for the challenge. They kept her that day and I was so thankful because I had no idea she was in that bad of shape. She had surgery 1/8 and fast forward 3 weeks she's doing amazing. The entire staff has been amazing and during her stay they sent me photos and updates. Dr. George was great, but more importantly he was genuine and I really appreciated that. Special shout out to Kate who was an absolute gem through the entire process, I felt like my dog was her only patient . I literally had my dog for two days before releasing her to Mohnacky's team. I brought my new puppy in to get an examination and his first round of vaccinations. RUUUNNN !!!! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Dr. Souther and Christina from the Mohnacky team. I came in for a full exam and needle aspiration for a lump I found on my ten year old dog. I asked when she walked into the room to do the exam in front of me because I had some concerning things I wanted to share with/show her that I had been noticing with my dog. She took my dog back for his biopsy and after 35 min I went looking to see what was taking so long, she decided to take a surgery in the middle of my apt. Finally a vet tech came back with my dog and said we were good to go. Very confused, I asked about the exam with the vet and the questions I had. Dr. Souther came back clearly VERY annoyed and pushing me out the door. There was 0 check up on my dog, 0 conversation about my concerns with what had been going on, nothing. When getting my dogs biopsy results back, it said the test was inconclusive due to her not getting enough cells. When I said she needed to re do the biopsy, she refused. She went straight to telling me that I need to spend $1,000 and give my dog surgery. I was livid, the point of this biopsy was to tell me weather the lump was cancerous or not before putting my 10 year old dog under anesthesia for a lump that we don't even know was cancerous or not. So I left paying for an exam that never happened, and a biopsy that she did incorrectly. This place is all about the money. They helped with the puppy vaccine process- having 2 new pups I was so lost with the process and trying to go to different Vets that charge so much and are so confusing. This place reaches out to you when it's time for an appointment for the booster shots and are so accommodating. They have an incredible veteran program which helps cover some fees. TL;dr -- Listen to the 1-2 star reviews! Long wait, ambiguous process, lack of pricing transparency, dog came home with bleeding nails/quicks when she went in for something unrelated Came here to get my pup looked at by an orthopedic vet because she was limping pretty badly for two weeks. They had me wait 30 minutes, which I can understand, they were really busy. But when the vet actually arrived, he spent less than 5 min with us before rushing out the door. He suggested X-rays and the vet tech went through cost with me. I signed a form for $255ish for imaging and sedation. After that, no one went through the rest of process with me. They told me to return in 1.5 hours. Knowing they were busy, I decided to call before I returned. They said she still wasn't ready and to call back in another hour. I called back in an hour, they said the images were ready but that the vet hadn't taken a look at them yet. Two hours later, the vet finally calls and goes through the results and suggested treatment. So my dog is in their kennels for 4.5 hours for a process that should've been 1.5 hours. When I went to pick her back up, she came out with a bandaged wrapped arm and a cone. ??? The vet did not inform me on the call that she'd be like this so I was shocked. And when we got home, I noticed majority of her nails/quicks were bleeding!! They did a good job of giving treatment steps in writing. However, so much of it was unclear! Both pill bottles for meds they were giving said "do not mix with any other NSAIDS" but the written instruction guide said to administer both at the same time. Additionally, they gave no guidance about how long to administer the meds for, how long to keep the wrap/bandage on her arm, etc. It was all very unclear and they were so busy, I didn't get to see the vet to ask vet any questions. And the cherry on top of all of this is that the total bill was $500! When I signed a form prior to agreeing to the x-ray that it'd be $250!! I know things happen and they have to be done. But they charged for additional imaging I did not approve of, and they charged for the bandages and cone, which I also did not approve of and was not even aware of. Overall, very unhappy and won't be returning. I should've went to our usual vet. read more

I had been with another local vet for several years with a couple pets. I got a new doodle puppy and needed her her to be spayed.
