Sociable is like a nice cave. Cozy, dark and warm. It's tucked back into an odd location and it took me a little bit to find it (the car behind me was also confused). I got a flight to start because I never know what I want and I love cider. Pretty decent stuff but not anything I was crazy about. The staff was nice and patient with me (especially when I spilled immediately on the counter pre-drink...) There was a food truck outside but seemed to not be open which was sad. I would go again because it's so close to home and I love cider. read more

The entrance is pretty hidden. We drove right pay it. When we got there, it was pretty full for a Thursday night. Some people were celebrating a birthday there and brought their own snacks. All the indoor tables were taken since it was rainy outside. I liked that this place was will lit. There were some people with their dogs there. Service was excellent. No complaints about that. This place looks like a warehouse or factory with a HUGE parking lot and chain-link fence - a perfect sort of remote spot to brew booze with your upstart business that got too big for your basement. I wish I had more time to speak to the folks working here to find out about it. We went in and new that we'd either found a hidden gem or a total fail. The direction of the seesaw depended entirely on the cider. The cider was awesome. We tried three or four kinds for a total of six glasses and $30. Yup - $30 for six glasses (see my picture). It was amazing. There was cider and beer, but mostly cider. Also, we easily found a table with chairs for us to spread our bounty (we had all six brews at once). They shut down at 10:30 PM so we felt compelled to order a bunch of stuff right away. Everyone was very friendly: the patrons and the people working there. One of the bartenders even told us where he was going next so that we could possibly meet up. It was pretty sweet. Sociable Cider Werks is the perfect sort of indy-hipster joint to impress someone who appreciates that sort of thing (or at least appreciates breweries). True to the exterior, the interior is very industrial. It looks like a gutted factory that was claimed by your uncle who wants to make a bar. You know, the sort of uncle who doesn't have a lot of money and would make his garage into a bar and every night would be a righteous good time and he would get drunk too and end up giving away drinks and not make any money. I cannot believe that I never got around to reviewing Sociable Cider Werks yet! On a recent trip to Minneapolis I was looking for fun and interesting places to grab a drink and I stumbled across SCW, which was located a short drive outside of downtown, needless to say it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere inside is warm, welcoming and downright cozy and perfect for catching up with friends over some great Cider. However if Cider isn't your thing they also had 1-2 beers available too, however Cider is the real focus here. I went with the Freewheeler Dry Cider which was a great Cider, however they also have seasonal Ciders, I just happened to miss the Pumpkin Cider by a few weeks! I guess that gives me a reason to come back again! Prices are reasonable, with a pint costing just $5. The staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions that I had.Overall Sociable Cider Werks is a great place to grab a drink with friends, or to just unwind after a long day at the office. read more

Will be back! Ciders on tap were very refined. My group tried quite a few and the group favorite was freewheeler. Very laid back atmosphere. I really enjoy Sociable Cider Werks. We've been here a few times, and each time it's a lot of fun. Today's special was a Pineapple Jalapeno cask which was spicy and fruity and perfect with the Lamb Curry from The Curious Goat Mobile Kitchen which is now Sociable's partnered food truck. I really wanted to try the Hibiscus Freewheeler that Jennifer F. mentioned, but alas, it was no longer available. I came here once last year when The Anchor food truck was serving, and I can't tell you how delicious that Hop-A-Wheelie was with a side of crispy hot Fish and Chips. My other favorites are the Spoke Wrench and the original Freewheeler. They are not overly sweet, not nearly as sweet as Strong Bow, Angry Orchard or even Cider Boys (all yum, by the way!) I found Hop-A-Wheelie surprisingly delish, and I'm not usually a fan of hoppy things because beer and the like make me feel too ful, but cider makes me happy. The seating arrangements: seat yourself, outside or inside, and stop by the food truck for a bite to eat. They brought our food out to us which was a nice touch. We ordered the Lamb Curry which was melt in your mouth curry goodness, Goats Cheese curds which were absolutely delicious with the pickled mango slices, and the Roasted Pork with cabbage and potatoes with a mustard sauce. Really enjoyed all the food paired together with our cider flights. If you get a flight, you can choose 4 different ciders or beer for $9. Stop #3 on our biking tour yesterday. I had the flight which has 4 different options for only $10. Turns out i am NOT a big fan of the " Mead for Speed". The other 3 drinks were nice. I recently visited this cool new cidery for the first time. I give it three stars for two reasons: it was a little hard to find (while that adds to the charm, some simple additional signage would go a long way) and it wasn't clear to me when I bellied up to the bar how to try or taste different ciders. So, my friends and I each ordered a $5 pint to try a few (not a bad plan). I got the Freewheeler because it's light and dry, and I found it to be closest to a really apple cider (I'll explain that in a minute). My friends tried the Spoke Wrench Stout for something different and found it a little bitter and sour but I think that's the goal and it really grew on them. I want to point out that what draws me specifically to cider is not only that I really love the taste but I also have a slight malt allergy. Unfortunately I was bummed to learn that the ciders at Sociable are not true apple ciders but really cider beers and therefore not the crisp, clean flavored beer alternative I had hoped for. That said, the garage doors in the bar area and tempting smells from the food truck parked outside will make for a great summer patio hangout and I will not doubt be back regardless. Worst cider ever. There seemed to be only one option available and it was dry and sour. Then they mix it with some beers and try to pass it off as something else....TERRIBLE. Someone mentioned flights or smaller 4oz. servings - YES PLEASE. We were with a group of about 8-10 people and half of us didn't finish our beverages because no one liked them. (mostly the beer/cider mix). They DID have a hot cider option that people enjoyed. I'm not sure if it was alcoholic, however. The atmosphere was ok, but it was PACKED with bus tours the night we were there. Also hard to find. They need more signs or something. read more

The way to do Sociable? Get a flight! I'm pretty sure it's $8 if I can remember correctly(?), and it's the easiest way to figure out what you like. Easier than staring at the menu for 10 minutes figuring out what cider sounds better than the other. The flight is also perfect because you can have cider, a mead, and whatever beer they have on tap. While you're sipping, Union Kitchen is the food-truck-in-residence and makes for a great dinner (I'd recommend the Hilltribe Fried Chicken). Monday nights are Speed Bingo, so it's quite noisy and I wouldn't recommend going unless you want to play bingo. You should definitely play bingo because of the awesome prizes (it's free to play), but warning: it's not super speedy - the last time I played I was there for 3 hours. read more

A place that only offers Cider!! While that may seem repetitive all of the ciders have unique tastes. They offer flights if you ask, I did not see it advertised on the menu. Alrighty, hopefully last update, now that Sociable seems to have hit their stride! Not to mention food truck changes. They are now one of my favorite after work spots to hit up, especially on a beautiful summer day. Hubby and I had the pleasure of meeting Wade and Jim last year (the owners) at a cider dinner Town Hall Brewery hosted. We learned a lot about cider there and about Sociable's history. While we don't see Jim much, Wade always stops by to say hi and chat when he sees us, or buy us a round, and inquires after my dragons (who we try to bring every time). Also a shout out to Alex at the bar, another now familiar face we've had some fun talks with, and Mike the brewer too! New things to note - if you want to bring some cider home with you but don't want to commit to a growler, you can get all of their ciders (yes even the infusions) in a 750ml "crowler". Basically it's just a big can, so you can recycle it once it's empty! They fill it up and use this really neat machine to seal the lid on top. I hope they keep these around! Their food truck situation has changed - instead of having rotating trucks like most other places, they now have a perma-truck called the Curious Goat. I love the food from this truck so much, and don't worry it's not just goat themed dishes! Sandwiches, burgers, curry, risotto, goat cheese curds, haven't been disappointed or unimpressed by a meal item there yet. They definitely deserve their upgrade from 4 to 5 stars in my book. read more

I love going here every Monday for Bingo. It is packed but it's so much fun. Their cider is affordable and fun to try. The surrounding atmosphere is cozy and the staffs are super friendly. Great brewery for a cold day! This is my go to beer spot in the winter to drink some good beer while feeling at home, playing board games with friends. :] My recent fave is the candy apple, very crisp and sweet and easy to sip on. They've expanded their space to accommodate even more beer drinkers/ game players! This is also a great spot to dog watch! Well behaved dogs are allowed, and more businesses should allow this! The dogs make great company. Food trucks are there on occasion, and you can always order delivery from your favorite restaurants to grab a bite to eat there as well. There are a lot of brewhouses in the cities now. Sociable takes a different approach by offering primarily cider beer - which I don't care for. I was hoping there would be a couple of more typical offerings but not on the day I was there. So - take my review with a grain of salt as my buddy who loves cider beer loves this place and has two of their unique stainless growlers at home and he refills them regularly. The space is big - plenty of parking, and fast service. So if you want a cider, this may be your place. If not - you will likely need to look elsewhere. read more

We were actually on our way to a distillery and somehow ended up here instead. Can't say that I was disappointed though. Not really having much cider experience, we decided to stay and try it out. I will say that for a cider newbie such as myself, that the flight for $10 was a smart idea. I ended up finding the one I liked the most (Road Rash) and sticking with that the rest of the night. I felt a little out of place at first but still ended up having a great time. They have bags (or cornhorn) just right outside. We road our bikes here with a group of friends on a Saturday evening. They had a great food truck out front and people enjoying games, conversation, and cider on the grass/patio. It's in a kind of strange location in an industrial complex of some sort right in the middle of a neighborhood, but we found it just fine. Inside is sleek and kind of a industrial modern feel and the staff were great. But you want to know about the cider. Let me start of by saying I prefer beer to cider. Having said that, a crisp cider on a hot day is pretty refreshing and Sociable has plenty of those. Their more standard apple forward ciders are great. They lost some points from me with their more unique flavors, whether they were featuring other fruits, hot peppers, or other non-traditional flavors, they all fell pretty flat for me. I'm sure others enjoy them, but for my pallet, it seemed like creating a unique flavor consistently took precedent over creating a delicious beverage. Thrilled to have found a cider brewery in Minneapolis! I am not a huge beer fan and always find the cider selections at bars to be very selective and often repetitive. I was torn on what to get but the staff offered some good suggestions and allowed me to sample a few of the ciders. I decided on the Caramel Apple cider and really enjoyed it. I stopped in tonight for my first time to enjoy a cider while playing Monday night speed bingo and it was packed! We came to Sociable Cider Werks for Lavender's First Thursday event. It was a madhouse, and it always is, and I will try my hardest to not let that interfere with my review! The cider: I just didn't care for it. It was alright. I would give it 3 stars. We tried the basic (I don't remember the name, but we were told it was the plain cider) and the Training Wheels. I did enjoy the Training Wheels cider a bit more. I found the other to be not very flavorful, and not what I was expecting. I couldn't finish it however; luckily, my date and ally Mark was willing to help me out. I would be willing to go back and try other ciders on another day, but it was too crowded to stick around. The space: even without a large event, the space is strangely laid out. It is a very long and skinny place. The bar was large, but they had 2 registers right next to each other, which was confusing. (in the main bar, not the event, which was in the back room). The way the event space was set up was pretty illogical. The food was in front of and on the back bar. There were tables as well, right where you would need to stand in line for a drink. Most people went to the front bar. Did I enjoy it? Yes, mostly. Would I go back? Probably! We were just here with family and really enjoyed a quick visit and a round of cider! They had kombucha as a non-alcoholic option, which was perfect for me (the pregnant lady) and everyone else had a variety of cider types and one flight. The mead was a big winner! Yummy!! Their cider is SO delicious and they have so many on tap at this fun and busy "brewery"! Two large rooms, still overflowing with people on a Saturday night. They allow dogs which is great! And my favorite part besides the amazing cider options, is they have a shelf of games!; you can grab one and play with whoever you're with, while drinking the freshest cider around. My girlfriend and I had plans to go to Sociable Cider Werks on saturday, bring a board game and drink some cider. This is not the place to play a board game! Maybe on a slow monday night it would be good, but on a Saturday afternoon, it is packed with people drinking cider and enjoying their day. There is a food truck right outside of SCW that changes every weekend. I am not the biggest fan of cider, but I enjoyed the cider they gave me. We had ordered a 'flight' which has 4, 6oz or 8oz cups, on the wooden platter. Each one had a very different and unique taste to the cider. I enjoyed sitting and sipping all types of ciders! Super fun place! The atmosphere is great and relaxed. They had a food truck set up outside with nachos and brats, decent food. But the cider was like something I haven't had before! They had a habanero cucumber cider that was spicy but surprisingly good! I didn't want to stop drinking it! They also had a gin botanical cider and that was awesome too! Sociable Cider Werks is a really cool Cider brewery. The atmosphere is awesome - they have a nice location and lots of fun outdoor games to play. I'm not typically a big cider fan, but they have a few that are closer to beer and I enjoyed all of the cider that I tried here. There are often food trucks outside offering a wide variety of tasty foods to try. Also, the last time I went was for the Americana Fest, which featured outdoor music and local vendors. Great cider in a great location! I love that Sociable is not as sweet as a lot of store-bought. Freewheeler and caramel apple were my favorites. Crisp, not too sweet and delicious with good apple flavor! The tap room wasn't overly crowded at 1030-11 PM on a Friday. Easy to get to the bar and order. All I can say was this place was AWESOME. Got some growlers filled up, got some great food from the food truck right outside, and had GREAT service from Amanda & Taylor. If you bring Growlers, make sure they are the metal ones, as with the apple cider fills, they don't fill due to them going sour because of the light. I really like the atmosphere and Sociable Cider Werks and the wide variety of beers! The only thing that bothered me was when I brought my dog and she got excited and barked one time and one of the workers came and told me instantly that if she barked again we had to leave. Then I heard another dog barking and waited for him to go tell that owner the same thing but they did not. Made me a little on edge and nervous for my dog to see another dog and possibly get excited again. I will go back, just most likely not with my dog again. read more

If you're a fan of ciders, you're going to love the options here. Nestled back in an industrial area that resembles a construction zone / impound lot, you'll find this little brewery to be warm, cozy, not too loud, and full of drink options whether you want a cider or a beer. Some of the things I love about Sociable are: -Multiple cider options. I personally love the hopped cider, Hop-a-Wheelie. -An increased amount of beer options to go with the cider. -Board games -Open spaces, where even when it is actually crowded, it's not that bad. -Concert events and 89.3 events in the summer. The Charles Bradley show here was very memorable. I've also caught Har Mar Superstar and Sims here as well, for free. -Within walking distance of Flashlight Vinyl. Walk across the lot, walk on the left side of the warehouse building to the west of the brewery, and you'll be at Central and Flashlight vinyl...lovely. P.S. The initial cost of a growler is fairly steep with the deposit. read more
