Copperwing Distillery is a fantastic place to visit. Its obscure location in a St. Louis Park warehouse neighborhood adds to its allure. Copperwing is a working distillery, and the bar is not embellished to whisk you away from that environment. I like that. Copperwing has a place of its own amongst the thousands of drinking holes in the Twin Cities. You're imbibing in a distillery, but at a bar with a mixology and a bites menu. The cocktail list is interesting, and what I drank was delicious. I also drank shots of some of the different booze Copperwing produced. (It was a lot of liquor. The next two days were rough, and stupidly, we went to another distillery afterwards. I will never learn, and I'm 75 years old.) Liquor is like wine. We all have different tastes and palates. I liked one of Copperwing's vodkas, but not the other. Several of their offerings have won national awards. That's something everyone in Minneapolis can be proud of. Jack was our bartender, and he was gracious and accommodating. I will return to Copperwing Distillery soon, but will drink with more wisdom, sticking to one kind of booze and will drink lots of water. read more

I was in this area to meet my aunties for some wine and parked in front of this distillery. I had to come back and try their cocktails. Well, we decided to go out for a night cap and chose this place. Their cocktail lounge is a good size, there's smaller sofa seats, high tops, and the bar. The cocktail menu is huge. I didn't even know where to start but they made it all. They don't serve any food, maybe just peanuts and heggies pizza. Our bartender said we can bring in outside food. I decided on Cosmofallington, their version of a cosmo. It was delicious. My aunt chose Vodskey new fashion, also a spin of the cocktail. That was also delicious, not so heavy on the bourbon taste. My daughter arranged a tour & tasting for me as an early Father's Day present - and it was fantastic! I personally have almost 100 bottles of whiskey in my bar, and I was very impressed with all of their products! I bought their single malt because it was really good, and I know my way around good bourbon! We really enjoyed our visit to Copperwing in a Saturday afternoon. My husband and I brought along our newborn in his carrier and we're able to place him on the built in bench without feeling too crowded. The space is industrial modern with large glass barriers separating the tasting room from the production facility. It's small, maybe 8-10 tables and 10-12 seats at the bar but it seemed like as a group arrived another would leave so always full but not at standing room which was nice. Bartenders were friendly and greeted us upon arrival and advised the app is the best way to view the menu and order. It was really nice to be able to see pictures of the drinks in the app so you knew the glassware it was served in. I started with the mocha martini and I'd give it a 'top 5 in the Twin Cities reviews'. Light and the right balance of sweet and bitter. I loved the detail of serving it with the chocolate covered espresso beans which I could have eaten like Candy. My husband had the wing in a sling which was fun and tropical but again, not overly sweet which we prefer. I finished with the Spaghetti policy which was a nod to the French 75 coupled with a Negroni and it was quite delightful. A nice effervescence from the champagne with a little extra flavor. Fantastic hidden gem in SLP. I almost don't want to talk about how great the place is because I want it all to myself! Went for a happy hour bday celebration on a cold Wednesday night in February and had a great time. If you need a mid-week pick me up, go here. Tucked away in an industrial park, like a lot of new breweries/distilleries in the cities, Copperwing is unassuming on the outside but intimate with a hint of mysterious on the inside. There is fairly limited seating, but on a Wednesday night, we had no problem finding a table for 8 and there was still room for a handful of other parties to join us. The cocktails are outstanding and the prices are really reasonable. We actually had a server and he did a great job. It felt like he was our private server. Can't really ask for more - private setting, private service, lovely atmosphere, tasty drinks, and not crazy expensive! I'll absolutely be back. read more

Another lovely local distillery hidden in a warehouse park. Their whiskey is nothing to speak of (not compared to other whiskey focused distilleries), but the overall spirit lineup is decent, and the cocktail room is excellent. The servers are full of enthusiasm, and with only six employees, they really have to know their stuff. The menu is broader than their neighbor Dampfwerk, and yet everything is made in house, including syrups and bitters. We drank a broad combo of highball and stirred drinks, and all were solid. The smoked old fashioned was very on trend but also potentially the best of the batch. Not much food, but you can order in. Great place for a first date or for sharing! read more

Across the parking lot you can find Dampfwerk Distillery as well. Our server was energetic and happy to help us figure out what the perfect drink would be. They have a LARGE drink menu and it was easy to find something to enjoy. There is not very much seating so I wouldn't recommend this location for larger groups. I've never been able to partake of the cocktails in the tasting room, since we moved to the neighborhood in a post-Covid world, but I am so glad we discovered Copperwing and I'm looking forward to enjoying an in-distillery drink as soon as public health interests allow for it. That said, we've been enjoying some amazing cocktails in the comfort of our own home. My husband is a huge fan of whiskey, while I personally prefer gin or tequila. Thankfully Copperwing has something for both of us. I've enjoyed two gin cocktail kits, the Rosemary Gin Gimlet and the Triple Pepper Bowtie, and both have been phenomenal. My husband has been loving their pre-mixed Old Fashioned. Pickup is so easy and makes me feel incredibly safe. Each time we've picked our orders up, there has been a single masked employee handling the orders, they've been friendly, helpful, and quick. The distillery itself can be a bit difficult to find, and I recommend making your first trip in the daylight hours so it's easier to spot the lovely wing sign above the door. Support these guys please! Can't wait to bike over and take advantage of our neighborhood distillery in better, simpler times. read more

If you are looking for a tiny distillery with little to no food and way over priced drinks this is the place for you. I got the Paloma which was very nice drink however it to me was way over priced. I understand they make all the alcohol there that's why it's more expensive but for $10+ after tax and tip I expected the best drink I've ever had it was good but tasted like a typical drink. The venue is very small so if you have a big group it might be hard to find spots to sit. Also half the seats block the entrance/exit which is silly. Overall I don't need to come back. If you are looking for food they have frozen pizzas they make. The chicken Alfredo was pretty good. Otherwise no food here just drinks read more

Copperwing is a little distillery tucked in a small suite in a larger building. The taproom is small and cozy, about 5 small tables, one long table and an L-shaped bar. I arrived on a Friday night around 7pm or so and it was moderately busy. There were only 2 employees behind the bar so the service was a bit slow and it took a while to clear tables. Nevertheless, the employees were friendly and offered their in-house-made hand sanitizer to patrons as they were clearing and wiping down tables. They even have signs posted outside and on the bar stating to stay home if you have any symptom such as fever or cough. I appreciate them doing their part to keep the community safe. My friends and I ordered the Copperwing Club and Framboise 75. We didn't share so I can only speak for the Copperwing Club. This is made with their fresas gin with raspberry shrub, lemon, honey, and egg white powder. It was light, fruity and had a beautiful presentation. All the cocktails are $9-$11, so very reasonably priced for a distillery. Other things to note, there are 2 gender neutral restrooms and plenty of parking. There are also non-alcoholic beverage options, some bar snacks and Heggie's pizza available to order. They also sell 375ml bottles of their spirits and some other merchandise. read more

My wife and I came here for a pre-dinner cocktail. The bar is small and intimate with plain decor. Josie was our friendly bartender who made me a Negroni made with their gin aged in oak, orange liqueur, sweet vermouth, and orange peel. While it was good, it was very one note orange with a mild taste of gin in the background. I was hoping for it to be bold. I visited Copperwing Distillery on Wednesday night. This place is definitely a cocktail room. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a cheap drinks and a quick buzz. Instead if you are looking to enjoy a great cocktail from a place that understands how to enhance the drink this is your spot. We tried two drinks this night: the Juniper Remedy and the Copper Mule. The Juniper Remedy is a warm drink that was perfect on the cold nights we have been experiencing in MN. The Copper Mule on the other hand was Copperwing's take on the classic Mule. Both drinks were delicious! Overall the atmosphere was very inviting and it was a fun experience. The Manhattan (made with their in-house version of sweet vermouth) was one of the best Manhattans I ever tasted. This was my first experience at a distillery so I don't have much to compare it too, but Copperwing Distillery has some unique charm. The space is small, and not good for large groups, but does offer a nice intimacy for date night or drinks with a couple friends. They don't have any food except for pizza, but I think it's a frozen pizza that they heat up for you. This felt a little off to me since the vibe is more upscale. You can bring your own food though so that's an option. The drinks were very good, again upscale and a little spendy, but I felt the quality of the drinks were worth the price. It wasn't really my type of place, and I don't see myself going here again, but I would definitely recommend it to others. The drinks really are very good and service is great. Okay wow! I LOVED this place. Last night was my first night home from college for winter break and my mom and I tried this out. It's in a random location, you have to drive through SLP neighborhoods to find it but it's worth it. It's pretty small inside, mood lighting, and a great seasonal menu. Like I've said in other reviews, I love a good Moscow mule! The guy working tonight said they happened to have cranberry vodka (limited time just from a leftover event) so I had 2 cranberry mules! My mom even had one and she HATES Moscow mules normally. They said they made the ginger beer themselves (yum)! We also tried the "Earl Greyhound" and they made the infused Earl Grey vodka themselves which is one of my moms favorite flavors. Also right up my alley, snack food. I was hungry after driving all day and they had pretzels/goldfish usual snacks you could buy for a couple bucks, but the Heggie's frozen pizza really added to my cocktail. Stopped here tonight and cannot wait to come back! I was warmly greeted by the two guys working there and spent a ton of time talking through how they choose their recipes and what makes them unique. We got the opportunity to try a number of them and enjoyed them all! My personal favorite was the red bow tie gimlet. It was slightly spicy but perfectly balanced in flavor- amazing and beautiful! Found this little distillery on Instagram. The location is tucked into SLPs industrial district. We went around 9pm on a Friday night and it was busy! There was much space to sit and it took a while to have the bartenders serve you but this is because they take the time to make each individual drink. I thought the "vodskey" was made up name of a drink at first but its actually a type of vodka Copperwing distills. They don't have a drink menu online but this is because it changes seasonally. They also sell 3.75 bottles which are great if you just want to sample or give as a gift. All in all, the place is small and hipstery but the bar tenders were really helpful and the drinks were good. The prices are what you expect - between $11-$13 drinks. I'd go back again. read more

I've been to his place at least a dozen times, hoping against hope that the libations would get better; alas, they never did. The alcoholic drinks are essentially watery, sugary and otherwise tasteless concoctions hard to distinguish one from the next - and I have a highly-refined palate. I have worked my way up and down and left to right over all the drink menus at Copperwing and I think this distillery is simply not worth the money. Please read on. The ambience is not cozy or welcoming; the location itself is uninviting; parking is tight: it's very industrial inside and noise reverberates off the concrete floors and walls incessantly. Prices are not commensurate with expectations. The bartenders can be engaging and knowledgeable but are too slow and unresponsive when the the place gets crowded - which is easy, given it's small size. Their ceaseless fingering & fondling of ingredients in some sort of bizarre bartender ballet and endlessly pedantic description of their "shrubs" becomes annoying after experiencing it at every visit. How about just making a cocktail in under 10 minutes, could you do that? It saddens me to leave a negative review, but it also saddens me that people think what Copperwing is peddling are quality drinks. Sometimes the "craft" in craft distillery means the craft of getting consumers to believe a distillery is something special and therefore justify it to charge premium prices to naive consumers (including me); while Copperwing excels at that craft, it fails at crafting cocktails of any discernible quality. read more

I stumbled upon Copperwing this week when I was checking in to Warehouse Winery next door and happened to notice Copperwing was right nearby. The wine samples weren't enough for me that day so we hopped over to Copperwing afterwards to check it out. From the moment I walked in I knew that I loved it. Okay, so this might seem really weird.....but it smells really good in there. Maybe it is the citrus that they use in the drinks, maybe it is because it is new, maybe it just clean, i dont know.... but I do know that I just kept sniffing the air because it smelled so good. Not a thought I typically have a distillery where I usually feel like I am getting contact drunk from the fumes. Anyway, enough about the fragrance (but really, can we eau de parfum that into a bottle for me?). The next thing I noticed was how much I love the look of the place. It really is beautiful space. It is small so I imagine on a busy weekend it might get packed and less great, but for the evening we went it just felt intimate. The glassware was beautiful, and their bar looked like it should be in a hip magazine. They had a super cool industrial-chic light fixture in their taproom that I would like for my livingroom. Behind the bar is all glass so you can see their room where they make the spirits (I literally don't know any terminology for that, sorry). The lighting in there faded into different colors. I'm kind of over the party lights phase of my life, but this was different. It definitely added a "coolness" factor into the place. Alright, enough about the interior design now. I don't even watch HGTV so what do I even know about design?? I do know that I like alcohol, and I also know I liked their drinks. The bartender told us that there are no bad drinks, just different drinks for different people....and I would completely agree. There were so many different options. I went with the drink with the most fruity-ness involved in the description (Screw in a shoe)-peach, orange, lemon, i don't even know what else but what I got was g'damn sophisticated candy in a glass. Seriously, it was adult sweettarts....but not like the the concoction that I made in college (sunkist, kool-aid, and cheap vodka...anyone else drink that mess in a bottle???) it was smooth and tasty and cute. My partner got the early greyhound, which was a tea infused vodka drink. It was so good....could have had a few of those. But really there are so many more on that menu that I wanted to give a try so I will be back! One last thing, both of the bartenders working that evening were so nice. They were willing to chat with you for however long and never seemed to rush you with anything. They took their time making the drinks, because they were masterpieces obviously. Let me start by saying that as a liquor enthusiast, and bourbon distributor, that I love to see new distilleries popping up throughout Minneapolis. The ambiance and décor of Copperwing is absolutely top shelf. They offer a warm and inviting vibe, that is met with two of three helpful bartenders, who clearly know what they're doing, and are happy to recommend their favorites. Unfortunately, this is where the quality reached a screeching halt. Upon ordering a flight of their liquors, my girlfriend and I sat down, excited to see what Copperwing had to offer. In looking at the 4 liquors presented, it appeared as though all but one had been bathtub brewed, that being the gin. Each of their vodkas smelled and tasted like they had been drug through a cow pasture, and tasted about the like. The venue is OK, but hard to find. Even without snow, it's not easy to figure out where to go. Once you do find it, the space is a bit tight and the chairs are very hard. It's a factory and it doesn't hide that fact. It's loud, cold, bright... Not the place you'd want to settle in and enjoy a few cocktails--so, yeah. The drinks are fine, if pretty standard for craft cocktails. (I realize that may be the bougiest statement that I have ever uttered, but so it goes). Don't expect to be blown away, but they're not bad either. They are expensive, though, so maybe it's good that you don't want to stay for a few. Take a bottle home and enjoy it there. read more
