Social Cantina I don't know if you call it authentic Mexican food or not I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's pretty authentic Mexican but I'm pretty positive. It's the best Mexican food in town. It was just average for me. The lunch specials are nice in this day and age but the food felt like it was trying too hard to be different and just a lot of the flavors did not mix well for me. $3 taco Tuesdays go HARD. Great deal, and a fantastic selection of well-balanced tacos that just blow Jesús out of the water. On Christmas Eve Eve, we were spoiled with free samples and an all-day happy hour. Service is always great and the ambiance is hip and inviting. Would be five stars, but my only gripes: 1. The social nachos came out cold and had hardly any cheese! What cheese it did have was so runny it sank and sat at the bottom in the middle of the tray. More like chips with toppings really, but still great flavor and you can't beat the price. 2. My friend got the same tacos I got but he got his on corn instead of flour. His were like half the size of mine, the corn tortillas being a bit smaller, but he really got stiffed on the toppings comparatively. So get em on flour, or your tacos will be smaller! 3. Music is way too loud sometimes. The dubstep tracks can be really annoying when you're trying to taco bout things, but that's more of a personal preference. Not impressed from hello till the check. Water was gross. We told the waitress and she talked to her manager who replied that they've been getting that complaint all day. But did nothing to fix the issue or offer anything different. Pineapple Margarita was on point to drink since water was unavailable! Food was subpar. Our fault before we came because we thought it was real Mexican food and not a fancified version of things. One server helping the entire floor and outside is also super ridiculous. The food isn't terrible. Pretty decent Tex mex modern fusion. Newer contemporary dishes than traditional authentic Mexican cuisine, but not bad at all. I appreciate there are vegetarian options, the crispy fried portobello mushrooms are really good actually. What's awful is the service. Been here twice and they are so slow and inattentive. One time I caught the manager chatting it up with a bunch of servers in the front hostess stand. It's like they were so busy giggling they couldn't bother to tending to patrons, like we were inconveniences to them. I think a mexican restaurant that you have to pay for the chips and salsa should be your first red flag. This is the third time I've gone and I wish I could give 3.5 stars. We went on a Saturday night and the wait was only 20 minutes, so that was awesome! However, service was still subpar. My drink came out quickly but the server forgot about my friend's flight and it sat on the bar for about 20 minutes before he came and checked on my empty drink and I told him she had never gotten her drinks. Someone should have noticed the drinks were sitting on the bar for over 10 minutes and tried to figure out which table they went to, as it was a different server who had brought my drink anyway. The rest of the food and experience was good, but on all occasions at least one item we've tried to order was unavailable. I am looking forward to eating on the patio once the weather gets nicer since they have a large outdoor seating area! I just hope they have the staff and supplies to maintain the increased demand. read more

Coming from a border town, it's tough to compete with our Mexican food so we proceed with caution and don't set our expectations too high. The service was quite slow considering it was a Monday night. We ordered a beer and a Lemon lavender sangria. I imagined a craft cocktail with a sprig of lavender peeking out of nice glass. Lavender grows freely near these parts and readily available to uplift a specialty drink. My shrimp bowl was at the level of Chipotle. The cilantro rice and beans had some tasty spices. I did like the ambiance of the place as we walked in. A cool vibe with the decor. We waited 10 minutes for a table to open up and we're seated. As we had out Grandaughter with us , they provided a carriage that hold the baby cradle. She is 4.5 months old. We were seated and the server brought us 2 flask's of water but no glasses. ????? We figured that he was going to get the glasses and be right back, 10 minutes later we had to ask him for glasses. We ordered an appetizer, is was brought out but no plates. There were 4 of us. We figured he would bring out the plates, again we waited????????? Had to ask again , this time for plates. The server was not as attentive as he should have been. If they had a limited number of wait staff I could see that he was busy. But they had plenty of wait staff working. The service was slow and not very attentive. We got the attitude from out server, he really didn't care. Too bad . The food was good. The chips were freshly made , warm as they came out and spicy seasoned. I had enchiladas and substituted the chili beans for black beans. My meal was good . No one complained about the food in our group. In fact everyone was happy with it. Located on the river walk area. Fun place to go lots of things to do in this area. Large parking lot , but I can see on busy times the spaces would be taken up. Overall I would return to this Cantina. Okay, bear with me this is gonna be a long one. I had zero expectations for this place, especially because it's hard to find any real decent food in south bend/mishawaka. We were pleasantly surprised. The vibe inside is cool, and the outdoor patio was probably the biggest in this area. The service was just okay. Not bad, not good. A little slow maybe. And it's a bit on the pricier side. But now for the food. Holy crap! I had the chicken tinga enchiladas. They were so flavorful, the rice was very well seasoned, and the beans were good as well. My husband had the birria tacos and it's definitely the best consommé in town. We also had the chip flight and the queso was amazing. The salsa verde was good, but mild and the smoky salsa was fine as well. I'm very picky about guacamole, mostly because most places just smash avocados without any seasoning and call it guac. This guac was amazing! The socialite drink tasted as if you were on a beach in Florida! So good! Definitely check this place out!! read more

Meh - salsa/chip flight and house marg about the only thing to recommend- the Birria tacos were horrible - just grease and salt - I was able to pick the meat out but if I didn't have tacos, I'm sure I would've been sicker than a dog - just a bunch. As a general rule, anything that had meat in it seem to be lacking to meet where is the meat? Isn't that the whole point of Birria similarly the bowls with the pork was missing the meat as a general rule. The rice and beans were pretty blah - I like everything else they lacked salt. Honestly don't think I'll be back and now I have no reason to try the Indianapolis location - by the way, Cantina, when people reach out on social media asking where your location is, you should probably respond. The only good food was the chips and salsa. Taco fillings were obviously breaded frozen fillings from a bag. I ordered the fried portobello mushroom and the fried avocado, two foods that have distinctive flavors. They tasted exactly the same, bland and flavorless. The margarita was small, pricy, and had no hint of tequila in it.
