Let me say this is not my first time visiting this place coming from Atlanta. I wanted to come back because of the delicious food and the fun atmosphere. The service this time was horrible. My family got here at 5:30pm and we didn't eat until 8pm. Granted they did discount our bill due to the long wait but when everyone at my table got their food I never got mine. So the waitress says what was your order again??? That got me heated and I told her don't worry about. I just traveled all this way and for such horrible service im highly upset. I've enjoyed the food here. I love supporting black owned businesses when I travel. I've been here a few times. I always get the catfish and it's good. I can't complain about the drinks either however the last 2 times I've been here I was harassed by the men at the bar. The first time I was aware of the guy being intoxicated based on his conversation with another person at the bar of how long they had been drinking so I let it go. I come back months later and I'm harassed by someone sober who won't let the fact I'm not trying to talk go. He told me I dodged a bullet by not talking to him. I ordered 30 lemon pepper chicken wings and some cheese curds as part of a dinner for daughter visiting The lemon pepper chicken wings are next level...perfect. There must be fresh lemon juice involved...the wings are tender, juicy and crispy with a really nice lemony tang and peppery bite...you are offered a choice of sauces to go with...but they need nothing. They are delicious just the way they are. The cheese curds were hand breaded , and as fried cheese curds go they are very good. Wow! Great service the moment we walked into the door. Ordering was efficient, recommendation to swap the fries with potatoes and onions was much appreciated, and there restaurant was very clean. Getting the catfish and fried breaded mushrooms. Ambiance was great with the music and background chatter - not too much chatter to be distracting. Aryana was on point as a server! The food is good, if you don't mind it being cold. I've been here 3 or 4 times since they relocated and the service has been ridiculously bad. The waitresses disappear from the dining room for 15+ minute periods, with no one visible but the bartender. Drink refills don't happen. Orders don't get taken for way too long. Food takes forever to arrive and is cold when it does. (I had a cold hamburger and cold fries with a few warm ones hidden in the pile), my buddy had cold perch and soggy cold fried pickles which were supposed to be an appetizer but came out with the food. The food *is* good... but this was my last time. I had a Groupon to use up. It's done, and so am I. Maybe I'll try the western avenue location, but the DTSB one is just not worth going to. Service or lack there of, my husband and I sat there for 15 minutes before the waitress acknowledged us, asked if we wanted drinks, five minutes later our drinks were delivered in to go cups with no menus, we assumed she would be bringing them back so we gave it a minute...just then a family of four entered and the same waitress warmly greeted them with menus and waters....at this point I went to the bar to pay for our drinks where the kind lady at the countered inquired about our meals, I informed her that we were never afforded the opportunity of menus and she told me not to worry about the cost of the drinks...I frequented Linden Grill often at lunch and was never treated this way...I felt well dare I say it, discriminated against. We were in South Bend for a hockey tournament. Stopped here for a burger with my daughter between games. The $5 kids menu was perfect, she got the burger and fries and it comes with a drink and snacks. I also got a burger, Trav special, and it was cooked perfect, plenty juicy. We had great service from our waitress, who was also the bartender. She swung by several times to check in on us and let us know how long till chow time. And the best part, knowing that the food would take a bit to get cooked, she gave me the snacks (Chips Ahoy and fruit snacks) right away in case I wanted to use them to tide over an impatient kid. As for the service just as bad if not worse, I placed a pickup order from door dash and had a buddy go pick it up, once he arrives he left waiting mins to be asked by a older man if he needs something, my friend reads off the order and also gives him my name then the man tells him that he needs to see the order from the phone in order to let him take the food because someone might try to steal it, first of all how would somebody know where to steal my food from If I placed the order. Then my friends says they made him wait longer and the worker claimed they were busy with orders while they restaurant was empty and he could hear the workers in back having the time of their lives. In the end the old man allowed me to send a screenshot as proof that I placed the order and finally gave my friend permission to take home cold nasty food an hour later. Vacation continues in the Bend and I'm really enjoying the peace away from the Pow Wow in DC. I've walked and still walking around the familiar neighborhoods and places I hung out during my growing pains - don't get it twisted :/ so I'm downtown and I want something fast, fulfilling and good, but definitely not fast food. I come across this spot on Main Street in downtown South Bend - Linden Grill. It has an "ole" neighborhood vibe, and it's another addition to the host of other new restaurants, shops, stores, etc. Once inside I'm greeted by an employee (very pleasant) and she takes my order. Didn't order much, again all I wanted was something good, quick and fulfilling so I ordered this Turkey Melt sandwich. There was no crowd as it was kind of late in the day so I suppose this is as lite as its gets once the business day is/was over and that was fine with me. While waiting for my order, I took some time to look at the few business cards I'd scooped up since being back "home." Now LG lost some cool points when my sandwich arrived at least 35 - 40 minutes after ordering. Within 10 minutes of its arrival, the waitress apologized and told me the order would be coming soon, and she was nice about it unlike "the others." When it arrived, it arrived "fashionably" tasty looking. This sandwich was loaded with sliced turkey, melted cheese and tomatoes between thick-sliced and toasted Texas toast. I enjoyed every bit of that sandwich, slowly. When I make a return trip back "home" it's possible I'd come here again cause I have to try something different this time; then again, that sandwich is already a favorite.
