Best advice is to go to a different office. If you have to go here, make sure you double check their input especially if you're newly being assigned an SSN. These people managed to screw up not once, not twice, but THREE times my husband's social. First, they left out the apartment number in our address. Second, they misspelled his middle name. THIRD, which we didn't even find out until filing taxes, they inputted his DOB wrong!! It's like they didn't have MULTIPLE forms of identification showing his accurate spelling and birthday. we all mess up, but mistakes to this degree this is just NOT the job for you. they should consider doing some serious rehiring at this place... and evaluate their literacy. read more

I'm deep in grief but needed the help and so I went a few months after our mother passed . The man I had my appointment with told me "don't spend this money at the casino." That was incredibly disrespectful. The last thing on my mind is the casino . I am no gambler and would never spend my brothers and mothers survivors benefits at the casino ! I was so impressed with my experience here and how friendly, efficient, and easy everything was. My husband warned me that his last experience at his local social security office took hours and that I should prepare to have a book, have my phone fully charged, and maybe even bring a portable charger, none of which was necessary because I was in and out in less than half an hour with no appointment. I did show up right when they opened and there was already a line with about a dozen or so people ahead of me, but I was checked in by staff and told to have a seat within 15 minutes of them opening. The woman that helped me was so friendly and made the time go quickly when I was called up for my name change paperwork since I had just gotten married. I was hoping to confirm with the lady if I have the proper documents so at least I do not have to wait in line and get nothing done again. She refused. The Nationwide SSA gov scheduled me to this local office to fill out a particular form to resolve the issue that I had discussed with them, but the agent assigned to my case at this office was too disrespectful toward me. The agent acted superiorly to me, rude and did not allowed me to talk as if I am a beggar come to the office to ask for their own money, even a beggar they should show respect, too as we are all humans. 03/03/23 I was stopped by a security at the door explaining to me the rules. That was fine, I checked my daughter information on so she can have a ticket. And apparently he became very upset about the situation. I explained to the ss secretary that I checked in for my daughter and she didn't seem bothered by it . Put the security officer made a big deal and went and told the secretary about it mistake by let me do that. I did didn't think it was a big deal. Came here for a name change and arrived 10 minutes before doors open. There were already about 15-20 people ahead of me, and they started letting people in. I walked in and used the kiosk and they waved me to check in at a window. Apparently they did my name change there and I was good to go in 10 minutes Surpassed everyone else and didn't have to wait! Got my SS change in the mail a week later! Now to the DMV!!! Parking lot is kinda small and I didn't see a sign as I drove up, you can't miss it though, of Waze tells you that you've arrived just turn into the parking lot. I had no idea there was a Social Security office in El Monte. I tried to make an appointment over the phone, but was informed that one wasn't necessary for a name change. The office is in the commercial business block off Rosemead Blvd by the 10 freeway. It was easy to get to and there was ample parking. Upon check in, the security guard gave instructions on where to line up at the kiosk. After entering my information and checking in, I only waited less than five minutes. Once my form and documents were processed, I was in and out within a few minutes. The employees there were friendly and my experience was hassle free. I would recommend this office to others. There is a line before the doors open, but no problem the line moves really quick! The real fun starts inside! I have never met some one as rude as the person that check our paper work to apply for a ssn. This older Asian lady already had it out for anyone that did not bend to her will; bad manner know it all did not want to give a explanation on why I needed to bring a birth certificate? When it clearly said on the paper that I can bring a passport. She gives me a sorry answer that she needed evidence of age, but I let her know that evidence of age is clearly on my passport with my birthday. Did not want to process my petition so i went back for my birth certificate and came back and finally another staff member help me out! What I really notice is that there is unwritten rule among those that work there that sooner you get rid of the customer the better off for them. They have signs outside the building to discourage people from coming inside and go online instead. They really do not want to work and actually be face to face with people. There a few things I took away from this experience: 1. Only because you work for a government office does not exclude you from customer service 2. Only because you have been working in SSA since 1935 when Franklin D. Roosevelt sign it, does not put you above everyone 3. Do your damn job! I know you are cozy in your government job and hate rolling up your sleeves and actually do more than expected They need new fresh blood that have great customer service and are willing to go you beyond protocol! read more

Exceeded my expectations! I came in at around 10:30 on a weekday morning and thought the wait would be over an hour long upon seeing a crowd of people seated in the waiting area. It was a simple process. They have a machine to check in, where you'll receive a ticket with a wait number, and then you continue to check in at a window in person to let them know what you're there for. I was in and out in just under 45 minutes for a name change post-marriage. If that's what you're looking to accomplish, just bring in your marriage certificate and state ID. Once you get called to a window, it takes less than 5 minutes to get it all done. Efficient and great service! read more

The closest SSA in the SGV area. Appointments are difficult to make online. Came at 8:45 am and the line was 15 people deep and continued to grow until they opened at 9 am. Get there early! Service has been pretty good to me the two times I came here. One time for disability and one time for Social Security. Gave me everything I needed and helped me get my money. Expect them to talk to you exactly like the DMV would. If you go with the correct papers and documentation, the process is easy. The staff is very professional, the switchboard can almost answer all questions about my documents being processed. I came here today around 12:00 for my appointment and it did not even take 15' for everything to be done. The staff is very quick and friendly. I came here to change my name after getting married. I gotta say, it was pretty quick and painless (30 minutes door to door), and all the staff I dealt with were friendly and efficient. The security guard who was my first point of contact thanked me for asking when o was unsure where the line was. The staff member who checked me in took my forms, checked them, told me to have a seat and wait to be called. 20 minutes later I called, helped very kindly and throughly by a very well spoken young man who quickly went through all my information, and completed my business.
