    The employees at this office are courteous and helpful, huge difference over the unhelpful employees at the North Fresno SSA office!

Two representatives differ in the manner of assisting us. We visited three times, the first two was with one representative on window 1 and the third time was with this male customer representative on window 3. On our third visit yesterday afternoon, Feb 28, we were assigned to a male customer representative. We were explaining to him what we came for and he concluded that my wife was not eligible without listening to the full circumstance that we have to present. This representative relied primarily on personal knowledge rather than established SSA procedures. He asked another person inside about our issue, came back and began to work with us. That alone gave me the suspicion that he was not confident with his job. We showed him the filled out forms that were given by the previous SSA representative from the previous visits. We handed them to him along with our military ID cards and he told us that he did not need those forms. He started to interview us and asked for my SSN, birthdate and other information. As he was typing in and entering the information, he noticed that we have an appointment scheduled online. It was a phone-call appointment from the 1-800 number. We explained to him that we made the appointment but were scheduled by the end of March which is very late so we decided to do walk-in in the local SSA office. The representative discouraged further assistance, insisting we wait for the phone call despite the significant delay and stating they were unable to help at the office or cancel the appointment. HE TOLD US TO APPLY ONLINE. He said that there are only three of them working that afternoon and the people at the back office are also busy!!! I do not understand that comment from this representative. I googled into the SSA website and it says there that I can schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. local time, OR CONTACTING YOUR LOCAL SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE. It is very clear!!!! This contradicts the provided information We had wasted so much time and travel to visit SSA Hanford only to be assigned to someone who does not seem to know the process of Medicare application. What differentiates their assistance from our self-service efforts? And he said he could not do anything about canceling an appointment made on the 1-800 number. The application that we did online was forwarded to SSA Hanford for processing as per the SSA status that we received by email. It is just a big run-around from this representative.

You can obtain an appointment in a few ways: Call their toll free number or attempt online. I made my appointment for today; Thursday over the phone earlier in the week because I phoned them to discuss a letter I had received from them recently. I learned that I had to present in person in order to conclude my business. Interesting was that the person who answered the call was also the person I met with today. I liked this because I felt more comfortable when meeting her as she was already familiar with my needs. Name changes are currently being processed here and by appointment only. You must present with your actual DMV drivers license and "original" stamped signed and dated by the court "seal" for some services like the name change. I'd phone them to get the actual list before presenting in person for an appointment. There was a line outside the front doors when I arrived but it soon vanished because everyone but one person wanted to see an employee for assistance. Once they were informed that was not the procedure they left. The environment was so peaceful. Security is on-site and I felt way more comfortable seeing and experiencing this as I was thoroughly screened for weapons. Made me feel super safe. Lastly, it can get costly to work on your Social Security paperwork by mail and today I learned they have over-sized postage paid, self addressed manila envelopes for the public available here. Good to see our tax dollars at work.

The lady seemed like she didn't want to help because that's another persons job at a different window (didn't even say which window) but at last she changed her physical appointment to a phone call appointment. My mother waited for them to call and they NEVER called her. An hour later she was informed she MISSED her appointment!!!! So my mom goes back a few days later and they wanted her to get a number and wait again !!! My mother lost it and told the woman everything and she had no choice but to help because people were listening. The woman told her she could've make an appointment online on the website or she could've called, which is a load of Bs. It's funny because right after that they sent my mom to someone and she got her stuff for SSC resolved. Totally unprofessional place. SSC Visalia u should be ashamed!! I knew this was going to be an ugly process so I resigned myself (and…read morebribed a trusted friend) to brave the DMV and planned to spend the entire afternoon -- even though, optimistically, I thought I might somehow finish the ordeal within 2 hours *_* [my bingo number didn't come up on the screen queue until almost 5:00 p.m.]. I liken this experience to an ER waiting room: gross with people coughing, screaming, crying, etc. [One man put good effort into scraping walked-on gum from the floor by my foot for his personal use.] Although many of the employees are quite casually dressed (way beyond 'casual Friday' even -- more like 'I'm getting ready to clean the garage'), those I encountered seemed to maintain a cheerful and helpful attitude. Make sure you eat and go to a loo before you arrive. I would say pack a lunch, but you really don't want to put your hands near your mouth during this exercise in patience and long-suffering. When I visited the facilities, I was sad but not surprised to see only a few seat covers laying on the toilet tank and that someone thoughtfully left me four paper towels on the empty TP dispenser. Magically, someone popped in just in the nick of time to hand me a new, wrapped roll under the stall! ^_^ Well, mission accomplished anyway.

I made an appointment to get my REAL ID at the Blackstone and Sierra location. I dont think I've been to the DMV for at least 4-6 years especially that location. I actually only waited about 20 minutes before I got called up to Window #9 and a representative named, Michelle helped me. We learned that we both Had the SAME exact birthday. I had started out addressing a concern to her about these 2 random guys wearing masks (hazmat type) and uniforms who were outside recording people and getting in their faces as youre walking in and a lot of us gals were VERY uncomfortable. Not sure who those guys were there but it was unnerving. Michelle apologized (not her fault) and made me feel heard. She went and told several coworkers and her supervisor about those guys. She even told me to go out the back exit to avoid them. I saw the Supervisor actually addressing those guys and telling them to stay away from people who were trying to come inside. Michelle was very sweet and soft spoken and just so easy to talk to and it made my experience very pleasant besides those guys recording people outside.
