You can obtain an appointment in a few ways: Call their toll free number or attempt online. I made my appointment for today; Thursday over the phone earlier in the week because I phoned them to discuss a letter I had received from them recently. I learned that I had to present in person in order to conclude my business. Interesting was that the person who answered the call was also the person I met with today. I liked this because I felt more comfortable when meeting her as she was already familiar with my needs. Name changes are currently being processed here and by appointment only. You must present with your actual DMV drivers license and "original" stamped signed and dated by the court "seal" for some services like the name change. I'd phone them to get the actual list before presenting in person for an appointment. There was a line outside the front doors when I arrived but it soon vanished because everyone but one person wanted to see an employee for assistance. Once they were informed that was not the procedure they left. The environment was so peaceful. Security is on-site and I felt way more comfortable seeing and experiencing this as I was thoroughly screened for weapons. Made me feel super safe. Lastly, it can get costly to work on your Social Security paperwork by mail and today I learned they have over-sized postage paid, self addressed manila envelopes for the public available here. Honestly laughable. I went in to see if they still do same day appts. ( they don't - since years ago. whoops) The security guard told me to get a number from kiosk and wait to see what they say. Over 100 seats , only 5 people there sitting. Looked like my odds were up. After 20-30 mins they called me back! I was so excited ; to find out they had me wait to 'help me' book an appointment. ZERO STAS!! The workers at the Social Security administration are rude!! , I was told to go to Social Security administration to see if I can get my Social Security number re-issued due to a fraud scammer. I unfortunately made a mistake. I gave out my personal information so I called MPD and I reported it Friday they told me MPD to close my accounts my bank account as soon as possible go to Social Security. Social Security would probably issue me your Social Security numbers due to the scammers so I went today Tuesday and I tried to explain to this person. She was rude and yes, I was on the phone with SSA and I didn't make an appointment for October 21 at 2 o'clock. The person at the window in the office said who did you speak to on the phone? What was her name I have Epilepsy I cannot remember and then she said MPD what do they know really! First of all MPD or the police they know more than Social Security. I don't care if Social Security is a federal agency. They don't know crap this employee Social Security administration was directly rude. She did not want to talk to me. She didn't want to hear me she straight out said we only do direct payment to collect money if you want to do anything you need to make an appointment in other words for me to get out of Social Security and leave! She didn't wanna help me in any which way, I said what am I supposed to do? If the person uses my Social Security number she didn't care she said to report it to the credit bureaus I said already did that my spouse total I'm not supposed to get upset she said do you want me to call an ambulance? That's all she cared about for me just to get out of the office for her to help the next person. i was there an hour before my appointment time and didn't get helped until two hours after my appointment time. so in total i was there for three hours, and once we finally got helped the lady was very disrespectful all just because as she said "she had a long day" that is never an excuse to be disrespectful at your own job. and the excuse as to why it took so long to help us is because "other people had appointments too" so did i and its ridiculous how fast everyone else got helped and we didnt. whats the point of appointments? or showing up early? this is ridiculous coming from a government facility, no professionalism at all. the only people that were helpful was security which shows how unfair everyone else is in that place. read more

I can't believe this is happening. One of my friends received a phone call from Modesto SSA office yesterday asking him to come in the office to fill out some paperwork for Medicare. After telling this representative that he is in the hospital and can barely talk (has severe infection and terminal illness), the rep. was still adamant that he needs to come in. He applied for Medicare in 2022 and now they called him back and requested the impossible task. This is heartless. read more

These stars are for the employees that are actually serving you (who work for the SSA office), they are great people. I wish I could say the same about the security guards. These two will treat you like dog shit that they have inconveniently stepped on. When you walk in they won't greet you professionally or even give you the courtesy of a smile, rather they make you feel as if you are a problem for them. The only reason I give this place five stars is due to the speedy, efficient service, even for walk-in appointments. I waited no more than forty minutes to talk to someone. However, there are definitely areas that need improving. First of all, it is practically impossible to make an appointment. About a week ago, I called the number listed on the web site, and was told that I cannot make an appointment, despite what it says on SSA's web site. I called back again to make an appointment, and was told by the guy on the other end that he could not make an appointment, but directed my call to the Modesto office. There was no answer, the phone just rang and rang for minutes! I had no choice but to take time off from work and walk in that day. When I got there, getting into the building is like getting into an airport. I never thought I'd see the day where there would be security screenings at a place like this. The guards were loose with the security regulations. They let one guy enter the building without screening to drop off a letter in the mailbox inside, and they let several people in with water bottles, despite rules against bringing in food or drinks. It seems to me that if you are going to have regulations, you make everyone follow them, you don't pick and choose who gets to follow them! Lastly, the icing on the cake: I came in regarding a massive overpayment amounting to tens of thousands of dollars. I let SSA know five years ago when I started working, but they continued to pay me well after my trial period. I didn't get a letter regarding my disability ending until August of this last year! She managed to tell me that I was still responsible for the bill even though it wasn't my fault I was overpaid. Huh?! Let me get this straight: The government fucks up and I'm responsible for it?! As far as I'm concerned, I did my part, but SSA failed to do theirs. I plan on going to another office in another city. read more

Never in a million years did I ever think I'd give a Federal service five stars! This office was like a well-oiled machine! All of the windows were open, they clearly called numbers over a loudspeaker and the TV's let you know what number was going to be called next. Once I got called up, the clerk was very nice and clearly explained everything in detail. The whole process for getting my business taken care of only took roughly 10 mins, I very happy at this point. My only advice is to show up early because who knows what the latter part of the day looks like. read more

My mother and I just moved to stanislaus county from L.A. County. Mother 85 is very ill and she walks with walker. We drove 15m to get to SS office the parking was easy! Right up front I got attitude from a security officer, which I felt highly offended. We waited from 2-3:30pm and they finally called our number. This asian dude didn't even said hi or any thing, gave us the proof of income and told us we have to come back for change of address when I asked can we do it now since we are here, he replied -we are closed- he didn't even want to talk with us. I just had my first experience with the SS office!! Must say it was something else!! Got there early, the line was out the door and way down the side, I had a friend with me so we stood and waited for a few minutes and then I had a thought, I had her walk back up to the front of the line and ask if there was a different line for appointments and low and behold there was!!! Of course there wasn't a sign or person at the door to tell anyone this information, but at this point we were directed to a line for appointments. The security officer, doing the wand, was the rudest person I've ever, ever met!!! He explained what he was going to do and asked me if that was alright I said "yeah, I guess so" he answered with "no Yes" and made me repeat the word yes, now I'm 69 years old and he was younger than me, I almost replied "excuse me a little respect for your elders would be nice" but being the nicer person that I am I didn't go to his level of rudeness!!! As an afterthought I wish I had. After that the person at the window was very pleasant and business was taken care of quickly and nicely. Just don't go without being prepared for the security guards because they will catch you by surprise if you haven't had a similar experience!!!! What a pleasant experience. I had to get my SS card replaced and I was in/out of there in 20 min. The staff were wonderful and the office (they said it was recently remodeled) is well engineered for the number of people they assist with the private workstations. Making an appointment is the way to go. My husband and I made an appointment for Oct 5, 2017 at 10am. When we got there he went right up to door and told someone we had appointment they let us right in; in front of everyone, scanned us quickly. I went to the machine to input our names and info, before I could finish they called us to the window. The gentlemen took care of us in less than 15 minutes. I have never had such fast service anywhere. The reason they did not get 5 stars is because we had to wait over 3 weeks to get the date. read more

I have to disagree with the prior comments. I made an appointment with SS to change my name, as I got married. I showed up, the guard checked my purse, ran some wand over me, told me where to go for check in, and I took a seat. Easy Peasy. I saw nobody standing outside and there were lots of seats. Very organized. Now, having said that, did any of you go to the old SS office? It was extremely disorganized, no place to sit because it was so small, and you had better bring lunch, possibly dinner. I have never visited the Social Security Office before and had no idea what I was suppose to do. After the Short Man security officer yelled at me because I walked past him, he searched my purse. Then the rude little human did not know what I was supposed to do to get an appointment. He doesn't know anything at all. He needs to to and he needs to be replaced with a HUMAN BEING. ahhh yes, the social security office. a little better than the dmv, but not much. it possibly could be the best job on earth though, with the hours of 9-3:30pm, Monday through Friday! there is a security guard upon entry, who will search your purse like you have C4 contraband, and in even the tiniest crevices of purse pockets that you didn't even know you had. there is a self check-in machine to the right, which is where you get your number. i waited exactly one minute before being called to a window (not that i could understand which window number was announced) once i was directed to the right window, you sit down and feel as if you are talking to an inmate through the cinder block-like wall between you and the associate. the person i had was not what i would normally expect employee-wise.......she did a fine job but looked as if she may have a moonlighting career in other modeling-esque industries (i will leave it at that). the process was quick and easy. upon leaving, it was nice to see a POS truck with camper shell park practically on top of the right side of my car...still not sure how he got out of his truck but thanks for not denting my side buddy! read more

I have never been more happy with a government office than this one!! I showed up at about 8:30 place opens at 9. There's already a line of about 40 and by the time it's 9 there's a line of over 100 we are checked in and I'm being helped within fifteen minutes. I unfortunately don't have everything I need so I have to run to dmv and come back in order to process my things. I run to dmv which I had an appt for, come back wait about 30 minutes get all three different things processed and I'm out of there by twelve!! Yes you read that right, I went to the social security office then dmv then back to the social security office and had it all done in three hours!! I called that a very successful day! But there are not nearly enough people working considering that there is a room-full of people waiting at all times. I don't understand how people can give this place a good review. I just moved here and this location sucks compared to the bay area. I have been here 3 times since my moved and the whole 3 experience was not a good one. It is because I keep getting that same employee. To the lady that works at window 4. She is a white lady I believe with a boyish hair and gray hair and wears glasses and medium weight. She has got to be the rudest employee ever. She did not greet or ask for my ID nicely. She said it in a rudely manner. And on top of that she was making side comments about my living style with dad as a payee. Um excuse me, you are just a social worker please refrain your negative comments to yourself and be professional. I am here to just get some paperworks done no need for the rude comments and your nasty attitude. Speaking of that I should have reported her to the supervisor because all the times I have been there she has been so rude. I thought the first time maybe she was having a bad day so I'm like okay. And I keep getting her again, so for that attitude it is her personality. If you don't like dealing with people as a social worker, please find another job. My attorney told me to do a walk-in appointment since I just needed to update my SSI information since I was just awarded both SSDI and SSI. I arrived there around 945 and waited for my number to be called when I arrived they were on A29 after being there for 45 minutes they only called 1 person. I actually left and drove to the airport and took the long way back took about 40 minutes in that time frame they called less than 10 people. I waited again for another 30 minutes before being called. Once called I got to the window and told the lady behind the window that I needed to update my information and she supposedly was messaging my case worker and said that nothing wasn't needed everything was fine. Today I called the 800 number and found out they don't even have my bank information so I do need to update my SSI claim. Idiots now I have to wait until they can fit me with a phone interview or appointment. read more
