Government offices always get a bad rap. I not only had a very helpful & pleasant experience on the phone to fill out forms & inform me what documents I would need to bring as well as scheduling my appointment. Upon arrival, was greeted by a friendly security officer, given instructions for checking in since I'd already filled out all my forms online. The waiting room was full, I was concerned initially. But, within about 5 minutes of my scheduled time, I was called to a window. The lady that assisted me was cheerful & able to resolve everything. I resolved my business in about 20 minutes. read more

the front security officer when you first walk in is super unpleasant. rude. cold. he needs to learn how to talk to people politely. Been the same guy for last eight plus years. Staff is the same way. Unwilling to help you, even though you have all the documents that the SSA website says you need. DMV is nicer and more polite then these people. read more

I came in there with nothing except an envelope and when he asked if I had any guns or weapons I clearly said no all I have is this envelope for the drop box. his next words were "ok? just a yes or no" in a very rude tone, especially when I just said no and told him what I had on me. Then he proceeds to tell me not to get snappy, when he was the one who was snappy first. You can tell he's not a people person. should have someone else working the front, someone more friendly. the other downside is my sons case being swept into the abiss after 3 months of his approval letter. I had to call about 5 times before someone finally found out who was working the case. I can't even use the back pay due to him being autistic and no need for medical equipment or rehab. we have Jackson care connect and his medical needs are met. so 8600$ I can't use. pretty crappy experience but the security guard was the worst! read more

They don't have enough workers there (only one woman handling the dozens of people waiting for hours and hours, both times that I went to the Medford, OR office). The security guard needs to understand that we are not criminals there, just a lot of us harmless old people! You can wait for a very long time in line but then be turned away 3 hours before closing because they are so understaffed. The lines are so long that you have to wait hours before even making it into the waiting room where there are a whole lot of people already sitting there. It's a ridiculous waste of time and energy, with numerous steps required to do any one task. Utterly debilitating, discouraging, aggravating, tiring and stressful! read more

I've called to make appointment on hold for over 2.5 to 4 hrs three different times. When aunt died they received a PHONE CALL that she died. The person entered the wrong date and noted it 3 mo prior. With no death certificate the withdrew three months of benefits. How does that happen without a documentation of death. 6 months later still have not received funds. Sent appeals in their envelope. They said it was never received. read more

I spent yesterday morning applying online for Medicare, only to be told at the very end of the application, "We cannot create an account for the social security number you entered". So I called the national number as suggested, only to be put on hold for two hours until I asked to be put on the call back list - and being told I would not lose my place in line. Was never called back. Tried again several hours later, same exact thing. I decided I would drive to my local social security office, but I could not reach anyone to ask if an appointment was necessary. So this morning I drove the 30 miles to Medford, got there a few minutes before 9 when they open. Already a long line, that's fine. After watching the aggressive security guard yell at and embarrass other people for nearly two hours, my number finally got called to come to Window 3. The clerk didn't smile or say hello, just asked what I wanted. I tried to ask why my social security number was not being accepted on my Medicare application, but the clerk just looked at me and asked if I wanted an appointment to apply for Medicare. NO I just want to find out if there is an issue with my social security number because I already completed the online application, but she would not even listen to my questions. Just told me I needed an appointment. The next available appointment is a month away, and I had no choice but to take it because the rude clerk didn't want to hear my question, and I can't get through to anyone on the phone. The entire process just to get on Medicare has been horrific. We have no choice but to apply for Medicare when we turn 65. You'd think by now they'd have this down to a science. Several other people I talked to this morning were also there for Medicare application issues. I hope their clerks were nicer to them. I visited the same office two years ago and had a very pleasant experience with a different clerk, although the same security guard was there then. Being pleasant and courteous to one's customers goes a long way in alleviating frustration. As someone else wrote, there comes a time when nice people have had enough. It is apparently my time, too. As centralized, high-inertia modern systems become less and less responsive and dysfunctional, they are hurtling us towards extinction and I find it less and less possible to be patient with them. This office is full of people who are serving their computers or providing defense; no one is there to communicate. If you can make do with online chat to SSA or medicare, that can, with patience be effective. read more

The location is clean. But that's the best compliment I can give. They have poor documentation, poor communication, and are inconsistent with paperwork requirements. Being from out of town and working full time I can't just pop in whenever, so I have emailed and received no reply, called and been given a list of needed items by one person, only to show up and be told I have the wrong/am lacking the correct forms. When I mailed items in during Covid I flat out did not hear back, only getting my ID back without a confirmation or denial. I am type A and on top of things and feel like I'm losing my mind going through all the hoops that don't always correlate with federal requirements found online. This place is a joke. read more

One wouldn't think of recommending a social security office but to me this was the exception to previous experiences. I arrived shortly after they opened and I didn't have any appointment for what I needed to accomplish. I waited only about 10 minutes before I was called up to a window to complete my business with them. I can honestly say that this office in Medford had two of the nicest clerks I have had to deal with in any type of office. Even the security person at the entrance was very friendly. I was out of there in about 20 minutes total with my business completed. read more

I have tried for well over 8 months to get an appointment to file SSI and change my name on the social security card. I can not get an appointment nor get a answer on the phone. I waited on hold for 8 hours on one line and 6 hours on another(Several times to say the least)I walked to the office round trip 7 miles. Waited 3.5 hours outside. Not one person even asked why. Another person had posted a message on the door, with his social security number in Red marker, name, phone number, address, etc. two days prior to my arrival to wait 3.5hours. They didn't even remove it?? Then a girl named Victoria told me to do what I needed to do, even if it took standing in the rain!! REALLY, THATS WHAT SHE WOULD DO? Well sweet pea. I bet you wouldn't. I know i did and nothing at all helped. At DMV, OR outside the door of social security. (So go right ahead and let me see that video when you do! Are you serious???? They let people talk to tax payers that wat?? I support your family by working ? Do your job. Don't assume i did not do mine!! I even talked to Susan in the Washington over flow office!! NO help, more like phone tag since she saw that i need a name change, it takes about 3 to 5 months to get your legal documents back. Then Victoria told me I could get certified copies of my license, birth certificate, and social security card? By standing at each office in the rain. Way to go SSI !!!!! We pay your wages and you are disrespectful???? Well maybe if the had a higher standard of comprehension of not being privileged, they take the time they need? Right? PLEASE BE AWARE. Do not answer your cell Phone inside the building. The security guard will be very VERY mean. He will ask you to leave. I was so embarrassed by the way he treated me in front of everyone. I was gathering my things to exit and asked who called to please hang on till I could get outside. This guard proceeded to YELL for me to leave. It's not necessary to cause someone that kind of discomfort. The call I received was extremely important. I may be over sensitive BUT kindness would have been a much better approach. THERE COMES A time when nice people have had enough. This apparently is my time. read more

Each and every time I have been at the Social Security Office in Medford, OR; be it for me or assisting someone else; I have found the office clean and bathroom clean, the guards at the door nice, polite and helpful. I have also found the office staff the same. Its the people waiting to see a staff member that I find rude and not thinking of others. Some are homeless, unemployed or immigrants, and some bring their small children. I understand why the children need to come with their parents and all, but please at least keep them from running around and being overly loud. And some of the parents and children usually look dirty with dirty clothing; plus the children's faces and hands covered in dirt, running noses; plus coughing all over the office without using proper infection practices. Its not hard, just cover their mouths. Is it that hard parents to wash your child up before coming to your appointment? Ohh and the body odor. People there is water to clean your under arms and privates in and places that offer use of their showers. I am not a rich person either, I am one of the many who are low income; but dang, at least I am proud enough of myself to take care of myself.
