I was telling them what the people of the telephone help desk told me that I had to go in to prove my identity. They said we don't do that here. Not till October and I just said Ma'am I'm just telling you what they told me to do and they gave me a ticket number on the help desk. She went and talked to her supervisor made a couple of my ID and was supposed to email it to my case worker which he never received. Had to go back in to see him and I had to take the lead and call the help desk on my cell phone so that they could talk to him and now he's supposed to get a call from some other State worker to prove my identity. I have all the ID's that they need. Been going on for over a month and still not resolved. The building is clean and comfortable.

It's big, it's clean, easy off, easy back on the highway, you don't have to go to Monroe and you're no longer in Ohio, what's not to love? I usually end up here at night but if you're here in non-vampire hours there's an absolutely insane amount of travel brochures in a Hallmark store sized space built especially for them. I've even seen a show flyer here for a band playing at the Lager House in Detroit. I can't say that for any other rest stop. Great place to stretch my legs and pick up some caffeine for the last leg of my trip back home. The last time I wound up here was coming back from Columbus on New Year's Eve during a blizzard. I meant to be in Detroit to ring in the New Year but the snow slowed me up enough for me to know that wasn't going to happen. I honestly thought about staying at this rest stop for an extra twenty minutes here just to say I rang in 2025 here. I ultimately decided I'd be pretty bored and that I'd go on my weary way into the snowy night just to pass midnight on some random spot on I-75 but just the fact I even considered this wacky plan should speak to this being a really nice res, er, welcome center. MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to protect life and property while minimizing suffering and damage due to fire, medical and environmental emergencies. We are dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the City of Monroe through public education, code enforcement and incident management. FACILITIES The Central Fire Station is located close to historic downtown. A satellite station operates on the West side of the community. EQUIPMENT A Paramedic Engine Company is deployed at each station. A 100′ Aerial Truck is deployed at the Central Station along with Water Rescue, Inspection and Command vehicles. PERSONNEL The department has 12 career Firefighter Paramedics on staff and are supplemented by 32 Public Safety Officers. The Fire Chief is the department administrator. INSPECTION DIVISION The Inspection Division encompasses fire suppression, prevention, public education, code inspection, code enforcement, and investigations. The division has the responsibility to inspect for and enforce adopted fire codes, State and local codes, standards and ordinances that provide for fire safety in public occupancies located within the City of Monroe. The division conducts inspections of high hazard buildings such as schools, both public and private, public assembly occupancies and locations where large loss of life or property could occur. The division works with State agencies in the inspection of local hospitals, nursing homes, adult foster care facilities and above ground storage tank facilities. The division is responsible for fire investigation activities such as photography, evidence preservation, assisting prosecutors with criminal cases and working with State and Federal agencies. The division is responsible for the creation, administration and evaluation of all public education activities and serves as the liaison with the Building Department. FIRE SUPPRESSION DIVISION The primary function of the fire suppression division is to save lives and to protect property. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES DIVISION All career firefighters are cross-trained as Paramedics to provide Emergency Medical Services. This library is located on the shores of the River Raisin. During the early spring, you can see the sugaring taking place at the nearby Navarre-Anderson Trading Post. The site is a beautiful place to observe the changing seasons in Monroe. The accommodations are excellent and there is a separate children's library. There are many cultural events that take place here, such as jazz concerts, movies, etc. I'm glad I found this branch of the library!

The Ellis Library and Reference Center is a cut above the rest.  They have a healthy reserve of…read morebooks.  The place is kept neat, clean and orderly, which is very important for any library.  The library staff is professional and polite.  They know their work and go about it in a reassuring fashion.  I appreciate the lighting in this library.  It is clear and light even when overcast, which it was when I visited. There is some limited seating outside.  The building itself is attractive and modern looking.  At the same time it has classic styling which hints at Frank Lloyd Wright.  Either there is some influence there or he had his hand in it. The parking lot is kept clear even during inclement weather, and, this being Michigan, we get our fair share of that.
