This library branch has computers, and is a wifi "hot spot". It is much used by the residents of this area of town, and if the schools ever shut down the ambitious kids could almost educate themselves here. It is a great resource for the community.

It's big, it's clean, easy off, easy back on the highway, you don't have to go to Monroe and you're no longer in Ohio, what's not to love? I usually end up here at night but if you're here in non-vampire hours there's an absolutely insane amount of travel brochures in a Hallmark store sized space built especially for them. I've even seen a show flyer here for a band playing at the Lager House in Detroit. I can't say that for any other rest stop. Great place to stretch my legs and pick up some caffeine for the last leg of my trip back home. The last time I wound up here was coming back from Columbus on New Year's Eve during a blizzard. I meant to be in Detroit to ring in the New Year but the snow slowed me up enough for me to know that wasn't going to happen. I honestly thought about staying at this rest stop for an extra twenty minutes here just to say I rang in 2025 here. I ultimately decided I'd be pretty bored and that I'd go on my weary way into the snowy night just to pass midnight on some random spot on I-75 but just the fact I even considered this wacky plan should speak to this being a really nice res, er, welcome center. Praise Michigan!

There aren't any stoves or ovens but there is a decent amount of space as well as a couple of serving windows that face one of the doors to the banquet hall. We got a really good deal for them, but we also rented during the week and I imagine the weekend price is a little higher. The grassy area is a little small, but there is still plenty of space to set up a nice sized event. The barn is a nice blank slate that you can do anything with to jazz it up. Our only complaint about the barn is that one of the doors is painted this really ugly color that makes it stand out in a bad way. You could argue it's rustic, and you can hide it or take attention away from it, but we would have like it to be painted another color. There is no electric at the barn, so if you need power you will have to run extension cords or have battery powered devices. The banquet hall itself is quite large with plenty of space for a large group, or a medium group to have a large dancing area with food tables. We elected to put our food tables in the hall just to maximize space, and there was still plenty of walking space in the hallway. The hallway also has a really nice fireplace with 2 chairs that makes for a great photo spot. The boardroom is a generous size with more electrical outlets than I could see you ever needing. It has a nice sized table and some semi-comfortable chairs. I'm not sure what you have to do to get permission to use but there is also a firepit outside, and that is next to an old post office building that is petite and makes for another great photo spot. Since the community center gets used quite often most of our vendors had been there before and that made it really easy to get them set up. There were some other rooms available and a courtyard area, I can't comment on those but the place itself has a lot to offer and is great for whatever event you need to host!

I didn't look at the other rooms but I posted pictures of the Metzger Room that we rented. The day that we had our party, there was a wedding reception in the banquet hall and a graduation party in the other rooms. Mary and Connie were the contact people and were friendly and nice to work with. They seem pretty flexible and willing to work with your needs. The rental fees were reasonable and it's great because they allow you to bring your own food/caterer. They do require a deposit for damages but they are really fast at returning it after your event. The Metzger room had a fridge and sink which was convenient for preparing food, etc for the party. And it connected to an outdoor patio space. The room was a bit hot on the day we were there & there didn't seem to be a way to control the air but overall the room fit our need.

I like how you can print up to a dollar worth of copies for free - in my home state I have to pay .10 cent per copy. If I ever need to come back into the area I would make sure to stop here and the bathrooms were clean and well stocked.

The Ellis Library and Reference Center is a cut above the rest.  They have a healthy reserve of…read morebooks.  The place is kept neat, clean and orderly, which is very important for any library.  The library staff is professional and polite.  They know their work and go about it in a reassuring fashion.  I appreciate the lighting in this library.  It is clear and light even when overcast, which it was when I visited. There is some limited seating outside.  The building itself is attractive and modern looking.  At the same time it has classic styling which hints at Frank Lloyd Wright.  Either there is some influence there or he had his hand in it. The parking lot is kept clear even during inclement weather, and, this being Michigan, we get our fair share of that.
