This is a sock paradise and a place I intend to return to very, very soon. First of all, dispel all the notions that you will come in here for regular tube socks. Yes, this store sells them, but once you walk in you'll realize there are far more wacky, fun designs you can don on your feet. If you like sports, there's probably a pair of socks featuring your favorite sports team. If you like ice cream, there's a pair of socks with ice cream cones on them. If you're into art, there is even a pair of socks with the Mona Lisa on them. Sadly I couldn't buy all the socks in the store. I walked away with a sweet pair of flamingo socks as well as socks featuring The Girl With the Pearl Earring, complete with a pearl on her ear. Great store. Really fun. I wanted to get an idea of what everyone was offering before I made any purchases. WHOOPS! This place stopped me cold in my tracks! This is Park City, Utah, a ski town, so feet are WILDLY important to people out here! That's perfect for me because I LOVE colorful socks! I'm a simple, man. Fashion terrifies me. It moves SO FAST I can't keep up. The minute I grow comfortable wearing something, it's out of style! Out here, during Sundance, the famous people are all dressed up in capes, fedoras & Fitbit's while the townies all look like they stepped out of an 80's movie. I can't follow what's going on! I fall somewhere in the middle, I guess. The only place I feel comfortable taking fashion risks is where no one is looking! So I popped inside to see what these guys had to offer. The answer - EVERYTHING! Are you into sports? Do you like Chewbacca? Who's your favorite singer? What do you eat for breakfast? The answer to those questions are hanging on these walls! I almost started having a panic attack as I was looking around! I had no idea where to begin! Who would have thought that socks could be so daunting?! The local behind the counter was extremely personable, too. I spent about 15 minutes asking him if they had "socks for this" & "socks for that?" Each time he said "Yup" until finally he just instructed me to "go ahead and look around, would ya." I only bought two pair this time. One pair for me & one pair for the Hollywood Businessman who brought me along on this adventure. I placed his socks on his bed with a note that read- "Thanks for bringing me to Park City with you! If you told me my 200th review on here would be for a place specializing in socks, I would have asked you to give my regards to the Easter Bunny while I go on a date for gelato with the Tooth Fairy. But here we are, and here is a place that not only warrants another five-star review, but also deserves to captivate any and all passersby with even the smallest hint of interest in socks that fit every personality type. Sock City basically tells you everything you need to know right there in its name: this is a metaphorical metropolis for footwear. You can kind of get that idea when you walk past the window and see everything from Sonic the Hedgehog to anthropomorphic cheese graters lined up and ready to pounce on your feet. The store also has belts and boxer shorts but the socks are the main attraction. And you could never see them all, not even if you come here two days in a row. Something we ended up doing. So, a bit of a backstory: we were vacationing in Park City and taking in the sights up and down Main Street. Needless to say, Sock City eventually came into view, and from a purely visual standpoint, Sock City does not disappoint, with its windows of brightly colored apparel just begging people to stop in and see what is going on behind their door. So we did. Being that I use my sock drawer at home to sort of circumvent the dress code at the office, I always love the chance to browse "wacky" socks hardly anyone else will be wearing before adding them to my collection. If you have ever felt that way, this place will be a paradise for you and your wallet. Hundreds of pairs of socks line the walls and the prices are well within reason for being able to have vengeful whales, raccoons in trashcans and Ryu from Street Fighter on your feet. After realizing Sock City is the perfect shop for picking up random "just because" gifts for your friends and family, I started to amass a small pile of fashionable footwear. It wasn't long before my sister, brother-in-law and best friend all had socks they never knew they wanted. Same with my Mom, who I believe picked up some for own circle of friends and relatives. What brought us in a second day in a row was buying socks for ourselves, because the more the merrier, right? Speaking of merriment, let's talk for a quick second about the staff here. In both of our visits, the same saleswoman helped us out, and we were all the better for it. She was quick, attentive and recognized us when we stopped in some 24 hours later. This second visit, there was a salesman working alongside her, and he carried on this same easygoing, congenial spirit. He even pointed out a pair of Frosted Flakes socks I somehow missed that are still taunting me for not picking them up when I had the chance. The bottom line here is the employees are friendly, able to make recommendations without hesitation, and just seem like the kind of cool folks you would not mind discussing current events with. You know, if you were not there to shop for the express goal of making your sock drawer look like a Jackson Pollock experiment. (By the way, they totally have Jackson Pollock-themed socks.) Anyway, Sock City is a vital destination for both those curious to abandon their dress socks, and those existing connoisseurs of sock fandom who want more out of life than just argyle. They have a lot of stuff printed on socks. The suggestion is that this is somehow inherently funny. I don't disagree, but I don't entirely agree either. Once you get beyond the zany concept, you're left with pretty poorly crafted socks in my opinion. Anytime I've received socks like this as a gift, they inevitably end up with a hole in the toe within 5-6 wearings. But I don't think high quality socks is the point. I think it's the zany images, and the massive variety of said images. I'm guessing these are usually given as gifts, and 90% of the desired effect is in the simple opening of the gift box and the observance of the hilarious combination of cloth foot coverings and marijuana leaves wearing Rastafarian hats. As such, it's probably fine. But never think these are good socks! They have a few legitimately good pairs of socks here, but they are in a small minority. read more
