I went to the Soderstrom Skin Institute office newly located in Moline, IL. They took over for Dr. Donna Poesch, who recently retired. I went in for my yearly skin check with Lindsey Cox, who is a nurse practitioner. She looked me over and declared all is well. She did not turn on the high-powered light to really look at my skin. She did not look closely under a magnifier at concerning spots I pointed out to her. Dr. Poesch always looked me over considerably more carefully. At least Basal Cell Carcinoma grows slowly, so if I do have problems brewing, they shouldn't become major issues before I go to a different dermatologist.
In addition to not getting a thorough skin check, she prescribed a steroid ointment for a rash on my foot and asked I come back in 3 weeks to have it rechecked because it could be a fungal issue and need different treatment. When I picked up the prescription, I was told by the pharmacist to not use it more than one week, then she said, well probably 2 weeks, but not more. I was not told a duration of time to use the prescription by Ms. Cox or the nurse. I called the Soderstrom Moline office for guidance 4 times over 2 weeks before getting a person. The office was closed and no word was on their recorded message as to their hours at that office or opportunity for me to leave a message. When I got a receptionist, I was told I would have to speak with a nurse and was told I would get a call back. It never came. Today, I called again and finally spoke with a nurse. She informed me I should continue to use the ointment until my appointment next Monday. I had already stopped using it over concern posed by the pharmacist. I cancelled my appointment. I am planning on asking my doctor at my appointment later this month to refer me to a competent dermatologist. I will not go back to Soderstrom Skin Institute. read more
