    Navajo taco

Hidden gem in Belen! My wife and stopped in on a Tuesday and everything was great! I ordered a small posole which was ample for an average appetite. My wife ordered a Navajo taco, which was very hearty as well. The service was attentive, and the food was a plus.

Combo #1 Christmas, and a bowl of green chilli with beef and beans.

Hidden Gem! Homemade chips and salsa. The red chilli is the best in Belen, much more complex flavor than I've had here in Belen. I also got the green chilli bowl, it has beef, beans, green chilli , cheese lettuce tomato in a big bowl. Super legit! Definitely get the red chilli on your enchiladas.

We sat down and we had the friendliest waitress ever. Really good service, checked on us constantly. The queso came out and it's really just nacho cheese from the can, I know because I have some at home lol. My hamburger was a little small even after adding a second patty for a total of $18. It was good but not $18 good. And they forgot my bacon. It wasn't til I was driving home looking at some pictures when I realized I paid for a bacon burger! Aye ya yi. My kids CFS came out and it looked great until I looked closer and realized it was mashed potato flakes from a box, I'm 100 sure of it and the gravy was turkey gravy. They also forgot her toast. I think they buy all this generic stuff and try to sell it as restaurant grade food but it's not fooling me. I can tell the difference easily. $40 for the burger, CFS and chips con queso haha. I do NOT recommend this place. Sorry I wanted to like it but nope...btw I would've only left one star if it wasn't for the great service by the young lady who told us she's only been there 3 days. She did a great job

I decided to try something that was a weekend special. Carne adovada Cheesy grits with 2 eggs, fried onions, avocado & cilantro. This was pretty good. Grits with not as thick as I would have liked them to be. My eggs were over easy and I asked for over medium, and no cilantro. I also had the iced mocha latte coffee that I had to ask for after my food came. Service was not great. The waitress told me right away that she was running behind, not something you want to know, then came back when I was done to ask me how my food was. I prefer to be asked with in 2-3 min after my food arrives. I was a waitress and this seems to not be a rule much anymore. When I asked for a to go container she gave me something that the grits would have spilled right through as I stated they were pretty thin. As this place is one of my favorites in town, I'll be back but, I hope the service is better.

The usual group of people were sitting at the tables. Fortunately there was space for my wife and I still. We ordered green chili bagel with cream cheese, a bagel, breakfast sandwich, a red chili latte and a strawberry chocolate. Latte. The bagel sandwich along with $11 which is nuts to me even in today's world. My hot latte was anything but. To top it off, our drinks came out when we were almost through with our food. Being as this is a local place, I've been trying to give it the benefit of the doubt however, the service continues to lack and the price point is very unreasonable. I think I'll stick with branded moving forward.

I ordered the shredded beef enchiladas with a fried egg on top, garnished with tomatoes, onions, lettuce and sour cream. I'm from California, and don't get to have sopapillas at home-unless I make them-so I of course had to order half a dozen to go. They were nice enough to give me a portion cup of honey to go with them. They have wonderful red chile sauce on their enchiladas. So good in fact, that my mouth is watering as I write this review. My aunt had the chile rellenos ala carte, and she commented on how good it was and how they stuffed it with quite a bit of melty and gooey cheese. I definitely want to eat here again before I head back to California! I miss all of the good food here in New Mexico that I devoured as a child. Montano's really hit the spot!
