The rice needed more flavor, the beans were what you would expect from typical beans from a Mexican restaurant. I would of prefer more flavor there as well. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and I look for particular spices and flavors. The Chimichanga was a bit small for $10.50. I would have liked to see more ingredients in the Chimichanga. With the lunch plate this is what is provided. I would like to see some sour cream and guacamole added, that would give this dish more to it. The gentleman who helped me was very nice and respectful. Stopped by for a quick bite of lunch and had a nice meal. As with most Mexican restaurants they provided chips & salsa when seated. The chips were fresh and the salsa was crisp with very nice flavor. I believe there was some cilantro but it was slight. We went through 2 bowls so I guess we liked it! I had the burrito picoso (spicy) entree which came with refried beans & rice. My wife & her mom each had the chimichangas with refried beans & rice as well. As a suggestion, offering black beans would be a nice option from a health perspective. But, both meals were served quickly and tasted very good. The restaurant is decorated nicely with a Mexican cafe feel with booths on the perimeter of the restaurant and tables of 4 in the interior seating area. Our server was very nice and provided very good service by getting our beverages & meals to us quickly as well as providing refills when needed. If in Eustis, FL and have a hankering for some Mexican give Sol de Mexico an opportunity! read more

My bff and I came here the other day for lunch. I ordered two tacos as a build your own combo. The shredded beef was good but the portions seemed a tad bit small in my opinion. They were almost like lunch menu portions. My bff ordered the chicken enchiladas with the green sauce. There wasn't much chicken and her portion was also small. The verde salsa they use is spicy but that's all it is. There's not much flavor to it past that. The salsa was good. It was mild which was fine. Service was slow. There seemed to be only one girl working and the place had a decent crowd for lunch on a Saturday. read more

Nice decor - friendly staff Chips salsa (were fresh and salsa good - first basket free $1 there after). Chalupa was not what I was expecting but tasty Nachos were bland and could have easily been made at home so nothing special. Margarita was over priced, over soured and under boozed (if there had been any at all). In fact the nachos were overpriced as well. I ordered the Sol Platter and sadly the three enchiladas and one tamale were slathered with a thick mole the consistency of brown paste material with no alternative sauces. Only the chile rellano came with a red ranchero style sauce. Very hard to eat 80% of a large dinner covered in mole only. My wife ordered an enchiladas platter not knowing mole sauce was the only choice. I gave he my taco so she had something to eat. We asked the waitress afterwards about alternative sauces for our dishes like a green verde but the verde is the house very hot sauce that will melt your face. Went in through what was the back entrance. Had to ring a bell - multiple times- to get attention and seated. Menu is long, slightly awkward, two sided. There is a small bar and tables and booths with cute Mexican tables and chairs. The bowl of chips and salsa were very skimpy for two people. Plus they charge additional one dollar per refill if you want more than one basket. They were average or below average. My food was also average or slightly below average. I got their nachos and it was $1150, nothing special and very messy. No great drink specials , $8.50 for a large margarita that was tart and didn't seem to have much alcohol. The food was delicious, we sat outside on one of those rare fall days here in Florida. The chips and salsa were perfect with the cheese sauce and Chirizo. The taco salad was not a hit but the combo platter was yummy. Visit here for a good meal and time. read more

We went in Tuesday for Lunch and it was Taco day. The were busy and festive. I had two beef soft Tacos with rice & churro beans. The tacos were nice and full and everything was fresh . My partner had the fish tacos and said they were delicious. We finished with flan which was rich and creamy with lots of Carmel sauce. read more

We came to Eustis for the fireworks celebration and were with "mucho hambre"... that means we were very hungry. While the park had food vendors for the fireworks celebration, we ventured into town nearby and found Sol de Mexico. Now, keep in mind that I am of Mexican heritage and grew up on this stuff. I love flautas and enchiladas, so I grade a place by these options many times. I love green sauce enchiladas so I ordered the ones on the menu and substituted rice with a side salad and the refried beans with the charra or soup style beans. I was brought out the "red sauce" enchiladas, but that was quickly remedied by the kitchen. The red ones actually looked really tempting... but I wanted my green sauce. Well.......... the green sauce was choked out by all of the melted cheese on top. I could not even tell if there was any green sauce to enjoy. Did they taste okay? Yes, if you like a lot of melted cheese and little sauce. My wife ordered the chicken and beef fajitas and she said they were very good. My issue here... the "tortillas" we were given. While I am not surprised when a chain restaurant serves "store bought" tortillas, I expect an authentic restaurant to give me fresh made ones. The ones my wife had with her fajitas were subpar at best... the three stars are for this reason. To end on a positive note: My daughter had the chicken chimichangas. She liked the flavor. I also ordered a rice water "horchata" drink. It was in a big glass and tasted great... presentation in the glass was also nice. We needed a restaurant Sunday afternoon for 8 and they were very helpful. We all had excellent choices. The entries were varied and each could pick their favorite. Jack loves "Cancun plate". Has ordered it before. Another ordered it too. Ate simple tostada with beans and rice side. Beans are tasty. Staff answered questions about selections. Tostada Chips and salsa are always good. It's our favorite Mexican restaurant since always fine. The tables and decor are pleasant and is not too loud inside. Outside tables are available. read more

Close parking is a challenge. Most of the spaces in the small back parking lot are reserved for other establishments such as the bank next door. Street parking in front is also at a premium as the restaurant is in popular downtown Eustis. A large parking lot is available across the side street from the bank, but the walk is difficult for the elderly or disabled. The outside of the restaurant is decorated with painted murals, making the restaurant easier to find as its entrance is tucked down an alley beside the bank next door. A small statue of a person wearing a sombrero and sleeping with his head and his arms and knees decorates a corner by the front door. I was unpleasantly astonished to find such a stereotype featured prominently at a Mexican restaurant. The inside decor adds to the experience. Two walls of the main dining room consist of booths made to resemble the porches of haciendas. Chunky chairs and tables in brightly painted colors decorate the center of this room. These add to the general atmosphere. The customer service in our two visits differed dramatically. The first time, the server was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. Unfortunately, the Tabasco on the table was empty on the second visit which foreshadowed the general lack of caring by the waitstaff. The server mumbled, didn't check on us, didn't refill the drinks, and actually walked off when my mom was in the middle of asking a question. I tried to ask two other employees for help, but instead of helping they sent the same server back to ask me what I wanted. I still didn't get my ice tea refilled until she brought the change. Ugh! The fajitas were acceptable - just okay. On my first visit, I also ordered one chile relleno a la carte to try before ordering it as a main dish on another visit. While the pepper wasn't particularly hot, which was what I was initially concerned about, the pepper was coated in a batter that had an unpleasant and weird aftertaste. Additionally, I expected the pepper to by stuffed, but instead, the pepper was very lightly filled - almost flat. read more

Honestly place is decorated nice and has a nice vibe plus tacos on Tuesday for $1.25, services was nice and all. Been here twice and twice I almost busted my butt in the bathroom being so slippery. I'm a hard critic for Mexican food since I lived in California and honestly I felt it wasn't that great. Overly salty and the salsa doesn't seem fresh I feel. Went prime time Friday night. The place was hopping but the staff was amazing getting my party of 5 in with a less than 15 minute wait. The staff very efficiently handled a busy dinner rush. The menu has a very decent selection and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant itself is beautifully appointed. The food portions were large and delicious. We went back here with a group of friends and it was okay, as usual. A few in our group ordered the hard tacos as it was taco Tuesday where they were $1.25 each. I didn't think they would be filling enough, so I ordered the same thing I had gotten on our last visit, the soft chimichanga entree. It all tasted good, but oddly enough they seemed to be less generous with the refried beans and the rice, so I ended up not feeling full after all. We came to visit the Eustis area to watch a friend's performance at the Baystreet theatre and needed a bite to eat. At first the entrance seemed sketchy but then we walked in and realized we were in the back seating area. There were a few tables back there with a family. A waitress peeped her head around the corner and showed us the way to the front of the restaurant to meet the hostess. I loved the decor. It appeared very authentic considering I've visited Mexico many times. The place was extremely packed but we walked in time to catch an open booth. Or waitress was very friendly and we let her know that we needed to order right away because our show starts in 40 minutes. We quickly reviewed the menu and placed our order for the appetizer-jalapeño poppers, shrimp fajita, and fish tacos. Our order came fairly quickly especially for a busy restaurant and everything was tasty. Our appetizer was just okay; too much breading and I'm not a fan of fried foods. My tacos were served with soft tortillas, seasoned white fish and fresh tomatoes with lettuce. The sauce on top added a great flavor to the dish. The rice was okay and the refried beans reminded me of the canned version. I do recommend the whole beans served in a cup and seasoned rather than the refried beans. The shrimp fajitas were served on a hot skillet with onions and peppers and looked sooo fresh! Great spot for some decent Mexican food and good service. We will have to visit again! read more

Overall, it's ok - very simple service, very average Mexican food that seems to lean more towards Tex-Mex style, but I guess that might be what the crowd here is looking for. I like the location and the décor inside was pretty nice - it felt cozy inside, even with just a few other diners there. You might want to be ready to order the first time they ask you though...we weren't, so it took her about 15 minutes to come back the next time - your indecisiveness will be punished! As for the food, everything was mostly OK but I found the flavors of nearly everything to be muted. The Queso Mexicano that we ordered as an appetizer was decent, but I wouldn't order it again. I picked a burrito once that was supposed to be smothered in queso, but it was actually just topped with some shredded cheddar-jack cheese. Really disappointing! We've also had the mashed potato enchiladas, which sound interesting on the vegetarian menu - but was underwhelming. Again, muted flavors. Good, but not great - but the for the price-point it's fair. There's not much in the way of spice here though! They have a pretty diverse menu compared to most Mexican restaurants, so I'm looking forward to trying a few other items to see how they compare. I still think this place is a good value because the prices are cheap with decent portions, even if the flavors are a little boring. read more
