But behind the warm welcome and polished experience is a persistent push for additional dental services, whether you need them or not. In my case, I was strongly encouraged to get a deep gum cleaning--a procedure I've since been told by multiple dentists was unnecessary. I get the impression this is a standard "recommendation" for most new patients. Pricing is higher than other practices I've visited, and the billing system feels stuck in the past. There's no online payment option, and if you move without updating your address, they won't hesitate to send you to collections. Miss an appointment they scheduled for you? That'll be a $100 no-show fee. Overall, if you're looking for a very polished, high-touch dental experience and don't mind paying extra--or getting more work than you likely need--this might be the place for you. They have changed their front desk staff who seem to be much friendlier as well. Also, they now have an in-office therapy dog who is SO cute and always comes to greet when I am in the waiting room! Their dental hygienists (their past ones and current one) are always so friendly and kind, and you can tell they are very passionate about dental health and they are always happy to explain what they are doing and educate how to maintain dental health. From my very first phone call with Teresa, I felt like they really got me. She took the time to ease my worries, reassured me that my dental anxiety wasn't an overreaction, and even offered a complimentary exam and cleaning so I could get a feel for the clinic. After being financially exhausted from prior second opinions/out-of-pocket x-rays for a cracked molar, that gesture meant more than I can say. In addition, Dr. Gaball is hands down the most personable doctor I've ever met. She actually called to introduce herself from her personal phone the day before my appointment, which is something I've never experienced with any dentist or medical provider. She takes the time to build trust, and that makes all the difference. The office itself feels more like a spa than a dental clinic (they even offer aromatherapy), which is huge if outdated waiting rooms trigger you the way they do me. RIP waiting rooms from the 90s. Closed his office during COVID without notifying all patients. Replaced an implant cap that cracked after 40 years. His work didn't last two years. Then Entire tooth came out. I saved it. Dr. Griffing took my tooth from me (that I had preserved in water) and threw it AWAY. When I visited a competent dentist for repairs I mentioned this and the hygienist of 25 years looked first shocked, then horrified. Her jaw literally dropped. Then she came close, leaned down, and asked me to please forget her reaction. I asked, "How do I do that?" Whatever Dr. Griffing was in the past...that time has passed. When he sent me an email four years later, my answer was to remind him of his multiple prior instances of unprofessional conduct (which delayed orthopedic surgery), and to never contact me again.

The only reason that this practice gets a star is because my dental tech (Sam, I think her name…read moremight've been?). She was so friendly and made me feel so welcome - I really appreciated that. The 1 star is for her, and her alone. I had really high hopes for this practice - and it looks like many people end up happy with their care. Personally, I did not. I didn't walk out of my first appointment with much of a desire to return. My primary issues with this practice are: (1) They brushed over one of my main concerns; (2) For a holistic dentist practice, their preliminary recommendations weren't very conservative; and (3) Their receptionists are disorganized and unprofessional. (1) One of my primary concerns was sensitivity that was very clearly coming from the surface of one particular molar. Dr. Ismael said she saw nothing wrong with the molar and that the discomfort was simply referred pain from my closest wisdom tooth. Which would make sense... except for the fact that my wisdom tooth has never caused me any discomfort in my life. Flash forward - two separate dentists confirmed afterwards that my molar was in fact the problem, and one was even able to mitigate the issue with a quick application of a topical product, which further confirms that it wasn't referred pain at all. The dismissal of my concerns left me unimpressed, and made me question the integrity of her other recommendations. (2) I emphasized that I wanted to be as conservative as possible and not extract any unnecessary teeth. That partially informed my decision to see a holistic dentist to begin with. I figured that a practice focused on non-toxic products and holistic healing would also take a conservative approach with dental care and not remove teeth unless absolutely necessary. I also mentioned that I might be interested in orthodontia down the line. I think this was a mistake, because the second I said that, I was told five teeth would absolutely need to come out - four wisdom teeth and a molar. On a second opinion, I was told that two wisdom teeth needed to come out, but that while removing all four was typically recommended, it was not necessary. On a third opinion, I was told the exact same. I recognize that there are differences of professional opinion, and I'm sure Dr. Ismael wasn't pulling her recommendations out of thin air here (and to be completely fair/transparent, she did say an oral surgeon might think differently), but I do think her preliminary insights were cookie-cutter and neglected to take into consideration my own preferences and concerns. I'm grateful that I sought multiple perspectives and am not afraid to advocate for myself, and I encourage you to as well. (3) While I was waiting to check out, the receptionists bickered over who would complete a set of paperwork. One audibly complained about not being able to go on her lunch break as early as she wanted to. They messed up on my paperwork the first time, and despite an empty waiting room, I was made to wait an hour before I could be checked out. I had to ask what the status of my check out paperwork was, otherwise I'd probably STILL be there! I'm patient, but an hour? Overall, not the best environment. I booked an appointment with a different dentist the moment I got in my car. I noticed that Dr. Godes comments on a lot of negative reviews, so in anticipation of that, I want to say this: I stand by everything I've written here, and this is my honest and fair assessment of this practice. I really value holistic practitioners, and they've changed my life in many ways, so I was excited to make an appointment here. But ultimately, I didn't feel that my concerns were addressed, or that there was a good faith attempt to make a minimally invasive recommendation. I was also surprised by the lack of professionalism on the receptionists' part, and that makes me wary to deal with them again re: billing/appointments/etc. To whoever's reading this - I do hope you absolutely love your experience here, but I caution you to get a second opinion.

Even getting my teeth cleaned makes me feel awful from ptsd from prior work. I started out here just having my teeth cleaned and some issues were found during that exam. I didn't want to get more implants bc I've had 4 that failed from infections and each one of those had to be removed and took a year to heal. I have a space where I need teeth but I've gotten by with a flipper which isn't ideal. I took a chance on seeing Dr. Steinberg who does the oral surgery part of the practice. He explained a bunch of things that made me feel like I'd be willing to try implants again, but I was really scared. I couldn't believe the difference in how I felt after getting the 2 new implants. I wasn't beaten up or bruised in the face, I didn't have big hunks of gum tissue hanging in my mouth with loose stitches and lots of bleeding and I didn't feel awful in the head even though I had their sedation method. Now, I have 2 implants that haven't gotten infected and are healing well. I waited a few weeks to write this just to make sure. All of that is due to Dr. Steinberg and his expertise. I wouldn't have even considered talking with him if Dr. Etesse hadn't been so kind to me and made every effort not to hurt me. Their hygienists are awesome and don't hurt and Norma is a genius with matching tooth colors, she's an artist! Samantha at the front is always so kind and helpful with figuring out the financial portion of things. Carla is always so helpful as well. You can't go wrong coming here and I don't say that lightly. They rock!
