Later I called my insurance and found out they were out of network, I asked twice before my visit if my insurance would cover, I was misled to believe that it would and there would be no charges at the time of the visit. It extremely frustrating to be surprised with a bill after you are seen. What if I didn't have money to pay the visit? Be sure to ask if they are in network because the staff will lead you to believe they are.

I was quoted about $5000 for the surgery and got way better customer service. I am so glad I didn't have this arrogant man operate on me.

The procedure was uncomfortable, but what stood out most was what happened just before the new crown was placed: while sitting in the chair with exposed, sensitive dentin, I was handed an electronic signature pad and told to sign a form--sight unseen. The dental assistant couldn't explain what I was signing, only that it was required before continuing. In pain and vulnerable, I felt pressured to sign what turned out to be a release of liability regarding the crown's fit and color--before it was even placed. That didn't meet my expectation of informed consent--it felt coercive. I insisted on seeing the form, and after nearly 20 minutes, they finally projected it onto a wall. Still, the message was clear: sign now or remain in pain. Under duress, I signed as no alternative was offered. Afterward, I voiced my concerns to Dr. Sandler. Rather than taking accountability, she blamed the software, dismissing my experience. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the distress caused. I've never sued anyone and don't plan to start now--but this experience crossed a line. I understand the need for legal protection, but demanding a release at such a vulnerable moment, without explanation or opportunity to review it, felt unethical. Since then, I've had unexpected difficulty scheduling cleanings--something I've seen echoed in reviews by others who didn't leave 5-star ratings. I can't say for sure it's retaliation, but it fits a troubling pattern. SFD may work for others, but based on my experience, I'm not comfortable with their transparency or consent practices. Dr. Lum provided a day-ahead consult during which he explained all steps of the procedure as well as oral hygiene I should practice at home after the procedure. Very good communication and patiently answered my many questions. I appreciate that Dr. Lum chose to administer a local rather than a general for me, and for post-procedure he didn't prescribe heavy narcotics. He also recommended warm salt water for oral rinse rather than prescription that might stain my teeth. ONLY GOOD COMMENTS. Dr. Lum completely set my expectations. He and his tech assistant, Kim are rock stars - so confidence-inspiring I actually dozed for a moment during the procedure. Quite a soothing atmosphere that allowed me to sail through! I have a complicated medical history and Dr. Mirkhan and her staff (Diane and Emi) took extra care to make sure I was safe, that procedure was safe for me and that I was not going to be allergic to anything they were using or going to give to me. Because of my complicated medical history, I did a lot of research to find a new dental surgeon after recently moving back from Chicago. As stated by other reviewers, Dr. Mirkhan has many awards for her outstanding work and has been recognized by her peers and the community for the same. I was charged for maintenance and a comprehensive evaluation on every visit, which is excessive and not in any way standard. I was charged for a deep cleaning without any local anesthetic, which amounts to a regular cleaning. And I was recommended to have an invasive surgery, and when I got second opinions by two other dentists and a periodontist, they all very confidently recommended against said procedure based on my XRs, probings and clinical picture and all three felt I was being recommended an unnecessary service.
