They will leave you holding the bag! Our system has failed us repeatedly for the last two years now. Last year I received a bill from Edison for $1500 because of the system. Can't track my power usage because the system they sold us is obsolete and can no longer track usage. We tried to get a hold of them and they do not answer or return our calls. At first, when trying to get our business they were so attentive and friendly. But now that we need them they are nowhere to be seen or heard. I highly recommend Kevin and Elizabeth (Solar Holmes) for their professionalism as well as their price. Great local team, not fly-by-night staffing, and dedicated to making your solar successful. Our system required a panel upgrade, and additional wiring, and we upgraded our pool pump to variable speed. Result? When we first had our system installed in 2014, everyone at Solar Holmes was amazing. Every interaction I had with them was positive and personable. The panels worked for about a year and then without really realizing it, started to go down in quality. We went from paying about $150 in overage fees for the first year, to $300 and it slowly crept up from there until all of a sudden our overage fee for 2019 was $1500. I called and emailed and did online queries and tried everything to hunt down someone from Solar Holmes for months with no response. We eventually ended up hiring another company to fix the problem, only to learn that the panels Solar Holmes used overheated and caused the modules to melt, creating a hazard and causing the panels to no longer work. In all, we still owe $14K on a system that has been trashed and had to pay $10K for a new system. The panel manufacturer: out of business. The data logger (that tells us how well our system is working): out of business. Solar Holmes: out of business. The only thing out of the entire system that didn't go out of business was the solar inverter, which was damaged internally because of an improper install. We at least managed to get that replaced under warranty. It took so long to remedy the problem, that our overage fee in 2020 was also $1500. We now have a properly working solar system manufactured by a company that has been around for decades and a solar install company that has been around for over 20 years. After contacting a lawyer to try and recoup some of the loss, he said we have a case, we just don't have any evidence because I didn't relay to the new solar contractor that we were looking at a lawsuit for the old install, so they didn't save any of the melted pieces for us. So we were told it's basically their word against Edison (really, because my contract with Solar Holmes is MIA). Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. read more

Great people at Solar Holmes. Courteous staff that just gets it. They walked me through the whole process of getting Solar installed on our quaint 3 bedroom home. They showed me exactly the best places to put the solar panels on my home (meaning maximum sunlight power to my home!). I learned a lot through the whole process, and everything just LOOKS fantastic. Our solar system was installed and commissioned in late September 2013. I couldn't be happier! The staff at Solar Holmes was absolutely awesome. Elisabeth Moats was my first contact with this new company. She explained the entire process and what equipment would be installed on the roof and on the side of our house. The whole process took only a few days once all the equipment was received from the suppliers. Even though Solar Holmes is a new company, the staff has worked in the industry for some time and it was obvious in speaking with them and watching the professional way they run their business. Steve and Kevin really know their stuff. We couldn't be happier. I look up at the panels and smile every day! Solar Holmes sells only the best equipment in my opinion. U.S. made SunPower panels, (The Most Efficient Solar Panels on The Market today) and German made SMA Sunny Boy transformerless inverters. I can even monitor the system with my computer or cell phone from anywhere. Most days the system will generate more electricity then we use on an average day. Here is another satisfied customer of Solar Holmes. Does it seem repetitive for customers to rave about Solar Holmes? There is apparently a good reason. We have worked with Elizabeth Moats and her staff since November on the process of installing solar panels. When we were interviewing various contractors for the job, it was evident that Elizabeth was not only more experienced and knowledgable about both the technical and financial sides of the decision to go solar, but she was also the most pro-active and communicative of the reps we talked to. She was always fast and clear in her responses to our questions. Elizabeth designed a "right-sized" system for us that takes into account our acquisition of an electric car at the same as we started the solar panel project. Solar Holmes specified high quality US-made SunPower panels, and made special note of their approach to installation, which puts importance on the aesthetic integration of the panels into the existing roof. Our installed solar panels lie flush with the curved tile roof, not hovering over the roof looking like an add-on appendage. To me, their method of installation is as harmonious with the architecture of the existing house as is possible. The installation crew from Solar Holmes earned an enthusiastic endorsement also. They were prompt, made no unnecessary messes, courteous, and informative when either my wife or I asked questions. I was present when the city building inspector did a final inspection of their work. He commented on the superior work the crew did with the roofing work, new electrical panel, and routing and installation of the conduits. He remarked that this was quality that he did not often see, and much better than the haphazard or unsightly work that he has seen on other solar installations. Solar Holmes installed solar panels on our house almost a year ago and the entire process was so easy. The roof was replaced at the same time and they were still only there a few days and I hardly noticed the workers. The panels themselves are placed beautifully - they don't look like equipment was dropped on the house as I've noticed some panels appear, but rather were placed with care and concern about how they looked. There was no interruption of service and for a little less per month than we were paying for electricity we are purchasing our panels and selling electricity back to the electric company. I heard Liz give a presentation about solar and wow, she really knows her stuff! Solar is more complicated than most people think and Liz has the education, knowledge and facts about how it works and how to properly set up a system. Even their installation techniques are superior to "the other guys" because they take extra steps to help prevent roof leaks in the future. I would recommend giving Solar Holmes the opportunity to earn your business before going with anyone else. Oh, and don't be fooled by some "solar salesperson" telling you that "the deal is only good if you sign now!" as that is not true! I bought our solar system over 3 years ago. I waited to write this review, since we had several issues in the first two years after the system was installed. We had several "arch" errors which shut the system down. Each call to Solar Holmes got a fairly fast response to get the system working. After much trouble shooting, it was learned that one of the panels was bad. Elizabeth (owner) was able to get the manufacturer to replace all 19 of my panels plus give me a new inverter. We have been trouble free ever since. The workers were clean and professional at all times. The company stands behind there work and the products they sell as did the manufacturer. My summer bills went from $500 down to $125. In the winter months I actually make a little money. If you are thinking about solar, think about using Solar Holmes. read more

Early in September 2020, our inverter failed and I tried to contact the company to have it replaced. Their phone does not ring and their website no longer exists. I am very unhappy with the results. Nice people but they analyzed my previous bills then charged me over 30k . I still get bills from Edison for $100 per month with the same usage as before and all Holmes can is make excuses. At this rate, it will take me over 25 years to pay for the system. Solar Holmes is simply the best! The most professional of the companies we interviewed and the service and installation turned out to be even better! Elizabeth gave us a presentation with Sun Power panels and explained how the panel would attach to the roof. There installation method is leak proof. They install a new composition shingle roof under the array to the fascia, then replace the concrete tile around the array making it look low profile and not an eye sore. Solar Holmes also runs all conduit in the attic not exposed on the roof. During this process we got to witness a neighbor having solar installed by another company and I witnessed the most unprofessional workers that had no respect for the home owners property or roof, we just thankful that we had Solar Holmes on our roof! Solar Holmes did it all. Design, permits, inspections and follow up. All in the most professional manner. We cannot recommend them enough. read more

To ensure warranty coverage, make sure that one selects an authorized SunPower installer. They are also a BBB accredited business with an A+ rating. Elizabeth mentions that Solar Holmes includes complimentary solar panel cleanings annually for a limited time. Solar Holmes installed a 6.1 KW solar system, flush mounting with Spanish tiles, upgraded /moved our electrical panel, and coordinated a new pool pump install in August 2015. It is a little over a year now and we have no issues and are completely satisfied with the new setup. Elizabeth (owner) and her crew are easy to work with and completed the project in a timely manner. During my quest for solar panels, I did a lot of research on the internet and received various quotes from different companies. Elizabeth was the only one who was able to talk the technical details, support the solar panel / inverter I wanted installed, and break down her cost to allow me to make apple to apple comparison with the various quotes. Her installation crew (Stephen, Brett ,and Ryan) are professional and executed a very clean installation. For our installation, they moved our electrical panel so that the power line is longer directly over the pool. I started my hunt for Solar about 2 years ago and received proposals from about 6 different installers. I even looked into solar wholesalers and doing the install myself. I found Solar Holmes through one of the Solar Associates and decided to give them a call about a year ago. I received a quote from Elizabeth for an install on my patio. My situation was a little different in that one of my best friends is an electrical engineer who has done solar installs for himself as well as Orange County. I had him review each of the solar proposals from each company. He did make some adjustments in the Solar Holmes proposal but they were only minor changes. The thing that impressed me the most was the follow thought by their staff. Victoria and Elizabeth never gave up on me. As you will find out too many of the Solar Companies are more interested in making a bid, sign a contract and move on to the next project. If you have questions or are delayed in your project they will just move on. That is NOT the case with Solar Holmes. As for the install we decided to move our panel idea from our patio to the roof. We have always been concerned about putting solar on a tile roof. Solar Holmes stripped our tile off and laid down composite shingle roof, mounted the rails and panels and then re-installed our tile. It appears to be water tight. Bottom line is the re-roofed 30% of my house. WOW! Gordon Perry Roofing was the sub contractor on the roof job and I would recommend them as well. All of the electrical was done by Solar Holmes and they were perfect. They even matched the color of my house and painted the conduit. Fire and City approvals went without a hitch so the whole process took about 10 days and would have been faster if the weather had cooperated. Do I recommend them? You Bet. read more

Shopping for solar was a pretty stressful project for me mostly because of the cost involved with converting. I shopped a few companies and all seemed legit and courteous and within about 5k of each others bid. I spoke with Elizabeth in person and she spent some time educating me on the ins and outs of solar. Her companies bid was not the cheapest out of the three I got, but after talking to her about the differences in panels and where they come from, for me its all about peace of mind, especially when making a purchase of this size! the competitor was offering a cheaper price but on a panel id never heard of or anyone else i asked who had any dealing with solar for that matter. Solar holmes offered me several panel options that ranged in price depending on my budget and needs. i chose to spend a little more and go with a higher quality panel for my own piece of mind although they had panels that they offered that were at the same price as the competitors bid too. We read many positive reviews on Yelp and after our first meeting with Liz we were convinced that she and her company were for us. We purchased a very large system with 42 solar panels for our 6000 sq. ft. home. The entire team did a great job throughout the installation. The roofer was excellent, the solar installation team were a great group of guys and very neat and professional. The finished product looks better than any home in our neighborhood with solar panels. Most of all, it works as well, if not better than promised. It's cranking out huge amounts of kilowatts daily. Elizabeth and Kevin were upfront and honest and gave me all of the options out of the gate. I talked to other companies in our local market that were really dishonest. Be careful! One local company came out and gave me an estimate and called me a week later to tell me if I didn't sign the price was going up. I told them to do what they had to do and a week later they sent me a new estimate for $7000 more since I didn't sign before the week was up.
