This review is a little dated, this was the first golf course I've played after moving to North Jersey. Invited by a friend, both of us are Veterans, so the rate seemed like a great price for the full 18 holes. Upon arriving it looked like an honest, everyday golf course...then I walked inside to pay. I couldn't believe the racket these golf courses in North Jersey are operating and robbing the golfers to play on these substandard municipal golf courses. The whole "County Resident Card" system is just a scam to make everyone pay more than they should...Central & South Jersey doesn't rip off their customers regardless of what county. Don't get me started on the cart fees. The staff wasn't the most welcoming...you'll think they were court ordered to work there, instead of working somewhere where people go to enjoy themselves! I wanted to ask them "What time are they due back in Boys town?" Rodney Dangerfield (Caddy Shack) The course itself was average, good for beginners or youth players. The front 9 has an open terrain layout, straightforward with no elevation with some water hazards. The back 9 is not so open and has tighter layout due to more holes having narrow tree-flanked fairways. Several of the tee boxes were in bad shape; not sure if its from poor drainage, pest, disease, or weed issues. Additionally, it can be due to inadequate maintenance (mowing/aeration). FYSA, a couple of holes on the back 9 is a stones throw away from freight train tracks, so you may get an unpleasant surprise on a tee box or on a green. It appears the course does not handle the rain well. Inadequate drainage due to the fact a few fairways were saturated from the previous day rain storm. It may be due this course borders a large reservoir. After paying an arm and leg, recieving lack luster customer service from the "Pro Shop" & Ranger Riders, and substandard course conditions...I'm out to seek better golf courses around the area before return to this spot. read more

Soldier Hill Golf Course - Tee Box not in the best of condition. (forgot which hole) - Golf Near Me - Emerson, New Jersey

I golf at Bergen County Golf courses at least twice a week and have done so for years. My sons and I are county card holders. I have never encountered a problem with front office staff at other course-most are typically friendly and jovial. Not the case at Soldier Hill. The front office is snappy and abrasive. I see the other reviews about this front office and I am not alone. Not sure why the county allows such a rude person to deal with the public. It really dampers a day in which you are just trying to have a nice day to play golf. read more

One of the other Bergen County golf courses...Paramus Golf Course is better. The course is fairly long almost 6500yrds long but it is flat with no elevation or fairway bunkers that come into play. They make up for this by making the stimp of the greens more difficult. Too fast and faster than a dry green on Poppy Ridge, our NCGA home course in CA. It screwed me up as it took me a front 9 to figure it out. So minus a star for that Cirque Du Soleil gimmick. Look me. Groundskeeper...I get on in regulation. I should not have to 3 putt more than I have too because the course is flat. Fairways were ok but definitely 2nd cut rough was dry and sun burnt on lots of parts of the course. Rough was also a tad longer than need be if not links style...freaking mow on a schedule please. Water on every hole is nice and ball cleaners are clean and filled with water so that is a plus...Also Bergen County...WTF is up with no logo'd gear at Paramus and Soldier Hill?!? Every course I have ever been to has shirts, hats, ball marks, etc...These two are the first without such items...Takes away from the fact that Paramus is a $$ area. Star off for that...I paid $90 to play and was willing to spend more. Up the pro-shop offerings...Seriously, the pro-shop looked like a fly by night car rental shop. Staff was nice though and regular who I beat was cool...BTW, play is slow compared to Paramus. Still I would recommend playing it but Soldier Hill would not make my location rotation. read more

Honestly this course is very nice. I showed up right before my tee time (probably about a minute before). I pushed the door open and stopped it on my foot and one of the men at the front desk yelled at me telling me I was late and to get going . Then I continue inside and pay the guy a hefty 75 dollars. After that the man tells me carts need to be in by 8pm sharp. Let's me know he doesn't want his rangers chasing me around. I say ok and walk out to begin my round of golf. As we get onto the tee box my brother is up to hit and one of the other guys at the front pulls up behind us and again starts yelling at us to hurry up and says people rip up the tee boxes because they don't use tees. Then he sees we aren't the greatest golfers and he finally flips his personality to a nicer guy. To sum up this story the employees at the front were super rude and disrespectful to us for no reason. Once we turned in the carts the people at that garage were super nice and respectful. The course was also super nice and enjoyable. I just didn't appreciate the 2 men working at the front with a very rude attitude to people that are paying their salary. read more

This place is awful the food for starters is terrible I think I rather eat out of a toilet then eat their again. Also this place is way too expensive to play golf people don't need to drop 200 bucks to play a round of golf and get some shitty food from their awful kitchen. read more

I'm surprised at how well the fairways and greens were last week. They seem to have fixed the drainage problem too as this course would always be wet in many spots. They still require a mask to pay greens fees inside as of June 24th. A long, flat course and rea$onably priced. read more

Now a Bergen County municipal course named Soldier Hill. Flipped the previous hole arrangement so now you play the old back 9 holes first. Good: Played opening day 2018 so the greens were perfect. Bunkers and fairways were all in very good shape too. Flat and easy to walk. Bad: Mostly boring "dog track" holes. Grass in the rough was in very poor shape. Near zero yardage markers with only flat yardage plates in the fairway. I'd like to see a 100 and 150 (if not also 200) yard sticks visible from a distance. Worst part is this course has zero indication of pin placement! While every other BC course marks the pin location with a blue = back, white = middle, or red = front flag, here all flags are simply checkered. This is unacceptable. No laser reflectors on pins, but that wasn't expected as none of the BC courses have this feature. read more

Crowded tee times. On the weekends, expect to be waiting at at least 2/3 of the holes. No water in the coolers. No one at the snack bar cash register to purchase drinks. For $75/person, the holes are not maintained well and is overpriced for what it is. read more

Once you pull into the parking lot and see the weeds flourishing in all the cracks in the parking lot pavement, you'll know what you're getting yourself into. Management is out of touch and has no knowledge on how to run a business, let alone a golf course. The only thing well managed is the cash register because once they take your money, they could care less about your experience there. It's evident that they do, in fact, have people working to "maintain" the course because they're mowing the fairway during the busiest times of the day. However, you can't fool us as they're obviously there just for show. Conditions are HORRIBLE, the play is slow, and god forbid you hit your ball into the bunkers as 75% of them have hornets nests. As an amateur golfer, I had the privilege of walking into one of these bunkers and seeing these hornets up close and personal. Maybe I should have left my ball right where it was and dropped on the other side of the fairway, but my stupidity got to me. I am hoping this place closes down so that a management company that knows how to run a golf course will rebuild it to where it was 5+ years ago. I think a brief stream of consciousness would work best here: Irresponsible management of tee times, crap greens, worse tee boxes, no regulation of slow players, suprisingly decent hot dog in a kitchen staffed by one heroic guy that demands a tip from you before he gives your your dog. if you're going to play here, get ready for conditions worse than muni courses, and a round that will not be less than 6 hours. Not a bad place but hard to compare to Ridgewood CC. For one thing there is no valet parking which is kind of a drag. The bathroom amenities are suitable but won't blow you away. I didn't notice any private showers or comp'd drinks at the bar area either. If your looking for a good fun round I would def give it a go but if you want the addition of fine amenities and a complete package I would spend my money at Ridgewood instead. read more

This golf course really went downhill year after year. I remember this being a top-notch course until the new ownership. Too bad the course is now at a level that's worse than the bergen country municipal course. The course needs to hire a person who knows how to maintain the course, then literally teach people how to do their jobs. Like I said, I played on this course 15 years ago and it was nice, and well managed. But playing this course over the past 2-3 years, it's horribly maintained. They shouldn't call it greens but browns or muds because almost all the holes are dirty patches or mud. Only plus is that you really wont have a hard time getting a tee-time, but that should be a flag in the NY area, where tee-times are hard to come by... read more

Played here for the first time since Bergen county took it over. Walked on and was able to play by myself (which I prefer). The course was undergoing aeration. The fairways were in need of a little bit better maintenance, but overall the round was a positive experience. As a Bergen county golfer, I will spend more time here going forward. read more

If you judge a golf club by the state of the parking lot and club house then you won't agree with me. I played 18 holes this morning , yes at 6:30, but it was worth it. They have focused the revenue in the early stages of the improvement program into the course. What a concept! Tight fairways, clean greens and a staff that takes the course seriously. The GM made rounds on the course two times during our 3 1/2 hour round and filled in divots himself when discovered. I feel that this course is 5 years away from the next level. Unfortunately the high green fee price may hinder that plan. I'll try it again, but only at off peak times, I don't want to ruin my round. read more

Decent course, but a tad expensive for what you get. Ground is super hard, fairways are in good shape and greens but the players there are below average so at one point had five carts on one fairway. where was the marshall? The carts are nice but no one to put your bag on cart for 100$... no pencils for score cards. Bright side is rachel the beer cart girl is great and the grill food is decent! read more

Decided to tee off here for the first time yesterday and I can tell you that it wasn't a pleasant experience. Course was not bad, it was more of the unwelcome rangers and professionalism of the guy who runs this place. I've golf hundreds of times in my life and this is the first time I ever felt that I had to go out my way to write a review. I pull in about 20 mins before my tee time and my buddy was on the cart waiting on the sidewalk for me. "WAITING," as I'm walking up, a man comes and is literally yelling at my buddy that he can't go into the parking lot, but mind you the parking lot is blocked off so how would he even get into the parking lot? Wait it gets better, my buddy is calmly telling the man that he is not moving into the parking lot and just waiting for me as I'm walking up, which everyone can see me walking up. And the guys response was it's not my rules it's the states rules, again, that makes zero sense since 1. The parking lot is already blocked off & 2. My buddy calming told the guy he is not moving lol. Maybe the guy was illiterate or couldn't hear, either or, I don't judge and I just wanted to have a good day with good vibes so I just kept telling him ok I understand, it's no problem. Now 15 mins later, before we tee off, the starter is breaking down rules which is completely normal, until Mr.Machoman who was telling us about the parking lot rolls up and tells me to move so he can get by. Yes, he said move. But as I mentioned before, I just want to golf and have a good time, so instead of maybe telling him that's rude, I stayed quiet and just moved no problem. The starter is continuing to talk and Mr.Machoman cuts off the starter and says if I see 1 alcoholic beverage, you will be kicked out. This was very confusing to me since none of us had coolers lol. I think 2 of 4 of us had a water bottle. Again, we said ok no problem. We start playing and not only do I see a pile of alcoholic beverages on every holes garbage cans, but I see this low life constantly follow us. Very odd. Like I said, I've golfed 100 of times, and I shot anywhere from a +10-+15 so I been around and I never been so uncomfortable and just weirded out on a golf course before. Safe to say I won't be back and I will spread the word of my experiences to all my buddy's in Bergen county who golf which many of them are very politically connected and some even serve as councilmen in some of their towns. I mean all I can truly think of is that I'm a minority, but I really hope that's not the case and will continue to tell myself that was not the reason. But anyway, just figured I'd display my displeasure with the professionalism I have experienced when golfing at this course. This golf course is horrible. Especially the rangers. One after another kept on rushing us even we're right behind group in front of us and no body was behind us. They are just annoying. I would never recommend this place to anyone even if it's cost $40 or $80. read more

It's amazing this place is still afloat! It was going down hill when I was growing up(20+) years ago. Like another review, the condition of the parking is your first red flag. Once you check in you see the sparse pro shop. The counter staff and starter were nice, rangers were more prevalent as the round dragged on. The course is beat, mild winter and the condition is not good. The greens were aerated and sanded causing inconsistent reads. The tee boxes played more like sand traps, they need to close half of the box and let the grass repair itself before the summer comes. It's sad to say but unless improvements are made or a golf company takes over, then this course will eventually become development of houses. read more

The worst golf experience we've ever had. The ranger was following us for the entire back nine pushing our pace which was not slow at all to begin with (4 hours for 18). I couldn't even finish the last three holes because of him. They are discriminatory against females and talk down to them both in the club house and on the course itself. I had an awful customer service experience with the club. The basically robbed me of $74 in NOVEMBER, because they said I was a "no-show". I called them and cancelled within 30 minutes of the two calls. I even asked would it be a problem if I call back shortly after the first call, and they said it wouldn't be an issue. The manager, who wasn't even the person I originally spoke to cancel, was extremely rude. After I noticed that my credit card was charged, he told me I was lying. I am not a 20 year old kid who makes tee times and "no-shows." If this doesn't get resolved, it will be extremely disappointing. I don't know why I would recommend this place to anyone, whether a beginner or seasoned golfer. I have never in my life been treated in such a manner. read more

Played March 26th and walked the course. It was in really good shape (I have played it maybe 5 other times) and they made some changes but overall fair challenge but long course. Never saw the Marshall so the par 3's got backed up. Pace of play was a little over 5 hours. The fairway and greens were in good shape. The price was not bad ($52 to walk) but wouldn't really want to pay much more than that. read more

This course is undergoing a complete rejuvenation and is well worth being patient. Bergen County has taken it over and is working diligently on it. Today 10/5/2018 we have played 9 of the 18 holes. The greens and fairways have just been aerated but the course was still a very enjoyable playing experience. The extremely wet weather Bergen county has endured in the last week has left a fair amount of water, but most holes were ok. We would say the price to play is extremely low and it is well worth it to see and play this course. I have been playing here on and off for the past few years and it's a great course near by metro area. They had some low years but this year they are coming back!! It's a pretty long course playing about 6900 yards from back tees. They made some changes recently, adding yardage markers on the fairways which helps players greatly and the greens are in good condition this year. I would definitely play here again and again. read more

This course has improved a lot over last few years. I just played last week and despite being that its off season, course shape it pretty good. One thing is that players don't repair their divots, but you can't blame the course on that though. read more

For $86 this course is not worth it. The tee boxes are a mess, the fairways are burnt out (which should never happen by late June), and the pace is very slow. I teed off at 7:50 and finished at 12:45. That makes no sense whatsoever for a semi-private course. I watched the rangers drive around and they are useless. They don't push anyone to pick up the pace. I will admit that the greens are well kept, but that's about the highlight of it. I don't mind paying $86 to play golf, but for that money I expect better. read more

Not the best course, but it's a great value for the price. Fairways are very nice (despite all the rain we've had), although the greens weren't the best. I've only played it once but they warned me ahead of time that the greens weren't in great shape, so it could be the exception and not the rule. But for $25 for 18 holes ( walking twilight rate after 5pm) who cares - it was still a great bargain. And it was wide open too - I walked 18 holes in 2.5 hours. No, that is not a misprint - I walked 18 holes in 2.5 hours on a Friday at 5:30PM. Never had to wait to hit a shot. Long course - almost 7,000 yards from the blue tees; one par 4 is 470 from the blues, one is 440, most are 400+ from the blues. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the greens and the snack bar was closed at 6:30PM so I couldn't get any food at the turn. So if you're playing late pack food and drink in your bag. But it's a much better value than River Vale - River Vale is twice as expensive as Emerson, plus River Vale's head pro and assistant pro have a snobby attitude and don't care about their customers so I'll take Emerson Golf Club in a heartbeat. read more

Very negative experience. The owner is not pleasant to deal with. Very overbooked-they pack in the tee times, so expect long waits. Unfortunatley not much else to choose from in the area. Started raining and they would not give us a rain check. When I asked why not, the owner said-The sign here says "No Rain Check" They only put the sign up after we teed off, as it was not there when we signed in a paid. ( The staff member who worked there agreed with me when the owner left, that indeed they only put the sign up after it started raining! had visited Emerson Golf Club yesterday with a groupon that I bought online. My friend however payed full price for her greens fees which were 65$ w/ a cart to play at 3pm. They had overbooked the course, booking a golf outing before my scheduled tee time and we tee'd off 20-30 minutes behind schedule. The course was so full there was a 30 minute wait time between the first and second hole. I should have been able to play a full 18 holes w/ a 3pm tee time but we wound up only playing 11 holes in 4 1/2 hours . The management team did nothing for us. They should have offered us a twilight rate in return for wasting one of the only precious golf weekends left of the season. To top it off, they advertise a full restaurant, it's basically a cafe and we had to beg for drinks other than beer. The greens are pretty beat up as well. read more

Booked pm GolfNow as a single. Got there and paid. Joined a group of 11 (3-4-4-4). Starter told me to join the three guys. When I rolled up they told me in broken English, "This is a competition. You can't play." I went back to starter. He told me I could get a refund. I was really pissed, but got my refund. Called the Pro Shop later to speak with the Manager. Got the Asst. Manager who told me he was aware of my situation but the manager was too busy to speak with me. I wanted to tell him to go fuck himself. But, I didn't and I'm pretty sure he would not understand by well thought out profanity. I will never go there again. I wouldn't bury roadkill on that course. read more

TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT! My husband received a Groupon for his birthday. Because of his work schedule, he was unable to use his Groupon before it expired. I called the manager to see if it would be possible to extend it by 2 weeks until he returned from his work trip. Steve Pyo (the manager) was very rude on the phone. He kept saying "well it''s not my fault he didn''t use it" and "I have hundreds of people calling to do the same thing so if I do it for them then I have to do it for you." He kept saying he was not able to do anything. It seems to me that the manager of an establishment has the choice to work with the curstomer or not. He clearly had no desire to work with his customer. My husband took several golf lessons on this course and was planning on taking more. He also was planning on bringing 6 other guys with him on his golf day. After Steve''s rude and unprofessional attitude, my husband will be doing neither. It seems like bad business practice to be so inflexible with customers. The golf course would have ended up making hundreds of dollars, had they just agreed to extend the groupon by two weeks. I''ve noticed other similar comments about the customer service. If the company is reading this, they should know that EJ and Steve Pyo (both managers) are having a very negative impact on their company. read more
