***Yelp Challenge 2016 20/100*** The only hardware town in Soledad. What I love about this place is that you still get that old school service. The folks that work here are helpful and if you have something heavy to carry out, someone is there to carry it into your car. They don't ask, they just do. I bought a bag of cement that was about 15lbs and the young man who worked there carried it to my car. The cons about purchasing items here is that it will probably be a little more expensive than going to say Home Depot, but the problem there is that you have to drive 40 miles just to get to one. I went in to purchase baby safety locks but instead purchase 2 chained door locks. After careful thinking, I realized baby safety door knobs would be more useful, so decided to return both packages to Soledad Ace hardware. Keep in mind, when I went to purchase the chained door locks, there were only 3 in stock and the packaging looked faded, old and bent. At the counter for returns, I let the girl know that I would like to return the items, she then took the items, was staring at the packages, grabbed her walkie talkie, called and told her coworker (female) to come to the counter. The coworker then took the packages to another coworker (male), he was looking at the packages, he then told the coworker to let the girl at the counter know to give me a refund. I felt uncomfortable and uneasy about the situation, as I had purchased the items less than 24 hours. I respectfully suggest to not make assumptions about individuals based on how they look. Stopped by this Ace Hardware while driving down to Irvine. Couldn't believe how nice it was. I learned from staff that the store had changed hands and was completely redone recently. Sleezy practice of not disclosing prices prior to repair. Not sure what happened to this place but I've taken my screens there for a decade to be re screened. Cost: $14-20 per screen. Took two screens in to have screens replaced and got a call to come get my screens and it's $90. $90 for two window screens . No thanks. I'll do business elsewhere. read more

Friendly staff, big selection of housewares, cleaners, lumber, tools, and plumbing supplies. This place and the other hardware store have almost any home/ranch improvement stuff you need. If they don't have it, they will order it, or tell you where you can get it. Usually Ace Hardware stores can be on the pricey side, but these guys have been pretty competitive on how much they charge. On the down side they aren't open past 6 pm or all day Sunday, so if you have to make emergency repairs, you're headed to Salinas. read more

This location is not that bad as far as merchandise it seems well stocked. But there's a big display issue here the merchandise is full of dust and the store overall needs to be clean, I know it's a hardware store not the cleanest place but I shouldn't get my hands covered in dust trying to buy a soldering iron. read more

The service here is nonexistent. I've been there a few times and I'm never greeted by anyone even though they look right at me. They say they are an "Ace hardware" but you can use your ace rewards cards for points with purchases because they don't have the technology to do so. Just go down the street to True Value. read more

This store is absolutely "old school" in both service AND inventory. Good reliable service & awesome inventory of items I didn't know even existed any longer. If you can't find what you're looking for, don't bother asking at the front desk; girls there not too knowledgeable as to inventory or even what exactly you are asking for. Your best bet is @ the back desk in the back room of building, these guys understand what you're asking for & if they have it or not. They are very helpful. read more

Most times when I go in to Soledad Ace Hardware it's because I need to fix something and probably going to need some advice. Every one of the staff are cheerful and helpful, and most are knowledgeable. On several occasions they have made custom cuts on wood and they refused to charge me the minimum $15. They'll load your truck without having to be asked. It's rare to find this kind of good service anymore. read more
