I had to have a surgery asap and couldn't get an appointment anywhere. But Dr Melikian's assistant was able to get me into a surgery center in 2 weeks. Although I live in Long Beach and had limited time to visit in person, Dr. Melikian was kind enough to initiate contact via email and responded promptly. He arranged a quick phone consultation at no charge. He came across as very amiable, genuinely concerned, and highly knowledgeable about the subject. During our conversation, he brought up additional tests and treatment options I wasn't previously aware of. The call was definitely productive and appreciated. My only gripe, generally speaking--not specific to his practice--is that stem cell treatments are exorbitantly priced and not covered by insurance. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 or more for various stem cell treatment options. So, not a go just yet until I figure out how to come up with the money, I will have to live with my back pain.

I am writing this review as a patient who has lived with serious back problems for many years -- so…read morelong, in fact, that at one point I even thought about becoming a doctor myself just to understand what was happening to my body. I have had back problems since I was 16 years old. Over the years, I visited countless doctors, chiropractors, and manual therapists, and I tried numerous devices and treatments for a herniated disc. Eventually, surgery became unavoidable. In 2022, I had my first back surgery with a different doctor. It went well, and I was able to return to my normal life. Unfortunately, after an injury, my same hernia came back. What followed were days of significant pain and sleepless nights after the injury. Fortunately, I was able to get an appointment within a few days, and Dr. Scott Lee immediately prescribed the right treatment to control the pain and stabilize my condition until the day of surgery. From the very first visit, Dr. Lee's professionalism, meticulous approach, and calm confidence immediately earned my trust. He carefully evaluated my condition, ordered updated MRI scans, and clearly explained the treatment options before choosing the best path forward. His manner was reassuring and thoughtful, which made a huge difference during such a stressful time. On the day of the surgery, something really stood out to me: the hospital staff were genuinely excited to be working with Dr. Lee. Everyone I interacted with spoke highly of his skills and reassured me that I was in excellent hands. They were absolutely right. The surgery went smoothly, without any complications. I was discharged about an hour later -- and unbelievably, I walked the very same day with no pain in my legs, feet, or back. That feeling was incredible and truly life-changing. Dr. Lee even personally called me after the surgery to check on my condition, scheduled follow-up appointments, and gave clear advice on recovery and post-operative care. This level of attention and care is exactly what patients hope for -- and rarely experience. I am deeply grateful for the entire process, from my very first call to the office to schedule an appointment, all the way through recovery. I would also like to give special thanks to the office staff, who were always supportive, responsive, and patient in handling my questions and requests. In conclusion, if you are looking for a spine specialist and are unsure where to go, don't hesitate -- go see Dr. Scott Lee. You will be thankful not only to him, but also to yourself for making the right choice.

I write this in my…read morethird month of recovery from the PAO and arthroscopy surgery: I am relatively young, in my early twenties, and never had surgery in my life, so the idea of getting TWO surgeries (Arthroscopy and PAO) was very scary. I also had another issue where I could not accept blood transfusions of any kind. That also added to my level of fear and distress. The idea of a minimally invasive PAO is not something I had heard of before and was very anxious. However, Dr. Garabekyan was SO patient in answering every question I had. His assistant Susie was also amazing and gave us anything we needed. When in the hospital, he frequently visited and called to make sure that I was okay. As expected, my hemoglobin did drop, but thanks to the salvage saving method used, I never had any critical blood loss/feel the side effects of anemia. I felt very, very minimal pain. The medication prescribed was perfect. The "hard" part was the period of 1-2 weeks after leaving the hospital, as sleeping was very difficult due to being a side sleeper. Dr. Garabekyan's advice (using many small pillows to relieve pressure) will helped getting through the night a lot easier. Another thing that amazed me is that he would answer our questions even on his vacation time. His recovery process was VERY well detailed, and we never needed to guess on what methods of recovery he wanted us to do. I have been to many hip doctors at Cedar Sinai and other hospitals, and I've never had a doctor as caring and patient as Dr. Garabekyan. Choosing him to do the surgery was the best decision I could make and I'm so thankful to his excellent communication skills, and of course his incredibly awesome assistant, Susie! :)

The Dr. came into the consult room two hours later at 12 noon. In the interim, several PAs took information from me, one repeating the other. The last one began palpating my knee and then kept her finger pressed firmly on the painful area until I asked her to remove it. She said I would be a candidate for a partial knee replacement. She also noted - in a surgeon's office for possible surgery - I might be living now with a "sore knee". Seriously? When he finally showed up, no introduction, no apology for a 2 hour wait, he began orating at me. When I attempted to ask reasonable questions, I was met with dismissiveness. But he had made sure to wear a clinical coat with his name and HARVARD prominently embroidered on the breast, just in case anyone asked. He contradicted the information I had received from 3 previous orthopedists, practically sniffing at the absurdity of my questions about what I had been told. And contradicting his own assistant, announced that I needed a full knee replacement, but I could live with it for now. Bye Keck. The good news is I had an appt. with another surgeon today, and it was like night and day. He listened, he explained clearly, took me seriously, spoke in depth. More on this Dr. next time.
