A great little cafe experience! This spot is bright and welcoming thanks to its quaint yet lively atmosphere and exceptionally friendly staff. This is such a fun warming place to be all around. Though there's not a ton of seating, I was lucky enough to find a table even on the weekend given that this spot is also great for grab and go. But if you get a chance to sit, it's a lovely place to have a chat with a friend or get some work done. The menu has a wide variety of drinks with some fun rotating flavors, and I'm dying to come back and try their sandwiches (they look and smell divine)! As for their matcha and pastries, I can report that they're not the most impressive I've seen anywhere, but they're certainly high quality and crave-worthy. My friend and I were visiting from CA and wandering around the area. Naturally we needed a midday boost and looked up local coffee shops in the area. We headed towards Solid Ground and ventured inward. The staff were welcoming and brought our drinks to our table. It seemed like the place to be as others came in a steady stream. It's small in regards to seating but we managed to get a spot with a good view of the street perfect for people watching. I loved the concept of paying it forward that Solid Grounds Cafe offers. You can pay for an item that someone can claim after, there is a little board that shows the number of items. It's a cool way to do a nice little thing in your morning that makes you (and someone else!) smile. Food-wise, their Earl grey scone was the best of what we tried. Full of the real Earl grey flavor. We got the blueberry iced latte which was interesting but it was hard to stir the blueberry flavor which sat in the bottom of the cup. The veggie breakfast sandwich felt a bit small and lacking in flavor. I'd say at the least to add some aioli and make it a bit more substantial with say avocado. Seating is very very limited. 3-4 small tables. But there is an open area/park just down the street with tables and chairs. Solid Ground Cafe, located in a unassuming location on the main street flanked by multiple other restaurants, has a small entryway that was easy to miss my team went here for breakfast. Inside the café, they serve a variety of breakfast sandwiches and other sandwiches, as well as delicious seasonal lattes and the most incredible pastries. Their ginger molasses cookie keeps bringing me back more- it has a chewy consistency and a large size that keeps me nibbling at it throughout the day at a fair price of $2.50. The rock solid was so good it brought me back another day. I keep wanting to try their other cookie flavors including chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, but their ginger molasses is that good. They have a solid matcha latte as well, but their turmeric ginger is pretty subtle. I got it with whole milk so your mileage may vary if you get it undiluted. They have a cute pay it forward system, where you can buy drinks and sandwiches for other folks. The only downside I can see is that they never notified me when my online order was ready to pick up, which resulted in my food sitting out on the counter for over an hour and possibly cause of my stomach ache after eating my build my own cream cheese and ham bagel sandwich. They have a very cozy location with maybe three tables max so don't plan to work here for long at busier hours. The window is filled with cute succulents and other coffee themed decor, completing the hipster coffee look of the entire place. Service here is friendly and quick unless they're all busy making orders, in which case plan to wait a few minutes. read more

I enjoyed the London Fog scone (Huge & I didn't think it was too sweet even with the frosting), and I really loved the mini coconut bibingka. This gluten free, dairy free muffin had a dense texture and was barely sweet. It's a very small space, so seating can be hard. I also got the jasmine Mem tea & my husband had a small americano (2 shots of Speedwell) . It's a cozy and smartly adorned cafe right in the Brigham Circle area, meaning many of the patrons are medical professionals. It provides a reasonably quiet work area with a few tables. There is a power outlet available, which was a helpful addition as many of the cafes in the general area lack them. The last time I was here I got a hot chocolate, which was deliciously and perfectly sweet, as well as an egg sandwich. The egg sandwich was similarly great even without any add-ons. The staff is always helpful and polite. And one more thing I love: They have a program that allows patrons to donate to give a sandwich to someone in need - and if you stay long enough, you can literally watch them give out that sandwich. I sometimes worry about where my money is going when I donate to organizations - where is it going? Well, no issue here. It's literally going to the people who need it the most who live in the area. The breakfast bagel was filling and just what I needed to get my day started. I will say they could have added a little more bacon and I did find a random piece of jalapeño pepper (?!) when I was finishing up my sandwich, so they could be a bit more careful with the ingredients. I stayed near Solid Ground for a month while on rotation at one of the nearby hospitals, and this little cozy coffee shop was a potent source of happiness during tough times. No complaints about the iced coffee, DIY egg sandwich was delicious (the tomato jam!!), strawberries & cream macchiato latte was very sweet but pretty good, earl grey scone was large and a good sweet treat, and the mini bibingka was delicious - perfumed with coconut, fluffy, and not too sweet! There is not too much seating but the vibes are very cute and I saw some people working on their laptops. I like the local art sold on the walls, as well as the "pay it forward" system. For my afternoon snack, I decided to get their special hot coconut pandan latte macchiato and London fog scone. The latte macchiato was nice, and you can taste the pandan syrup in the drink. I wish the coconut cream was more prominent in the drink. The coffee is not too strong, but it is alright overall. The London fog scone was pretty good. I really enjoyed how prominent the tea flavor was throughout the scone. It was decently sized. The vanilla glaze was light and added a nice touch to the pastry. Mini Bibingka: light spongy cake with coconut sprinkled on top. Very lightly sweetened so good to have with coffee. London fog (Earl grey) scone: on a sweeter note (but not overly so, appropriate for an iced scone), but very nice earl grey flavor. Best thing that I've tried here. Get it if you like earl grey but don't if you aren't a fan of icing or sweet things. Service and ambience: friendly enough. Cute inside with one bench to sit and wait at. No options to dine inside so not a great option to work/study. *edit* seems like they changed the setup probably for COVID? The earlier pics of this cafe looks very cute and inviting. Suggestion: the menu can get overwhelming - there are multiple menus (for drinks, baked goods, sandwiches), some are on a chalkboard, some are on paper...would be nice to have a better/bigger menu propped up on one of the walls. This cafe was the only one that had breakfast options + coffee that looked tasty near our Airbnb in Mission Hill, so we ended up coming here twice! I really loved what I got on my first day (BYO egg sandwich + light roast cold brew) but the ube coconut cold brew was a complete miss for me. Overall, I'd highly recommend giving this cafe a try if you're in the area. BUILD YOUR OWN EGG SANDWICH - 3.85 The starting price is $3.85 (which is cheap, imo, especially for Boston standards) but the amount could add up depending on the customization. You can choose from a variety of bread here, which I really appreciated. There are various bagels you can pick from, sourdoughs (white and wheat), english muffin, brioche roll, a gluten free option, and even more! Most protein options are an up charge of $2.50, but the smoked salmon for $3.50 extra was definitely worth it for me. You can also pay more for toppings and spreads (there are lots like various cheeses, cream cheese options, avocado spread, and jams) or you can stick to the complimentary options like sprouts, lettuce, and tomatoes. The barista who took my order recommended the sourdough and this whole sandwich was the size of what I'd normally eat for lunch. There was a good amount of smoked salmon, egg, and greens in my sandwich which made the sandwich extra tasty. The sourdough was fresh and perfect. For $7.35, this was a huge sandwich and one that I could have for two breakfasts. Definitely worth it - give it a try for sure. The sweeteners also didn't mix well with the cold brew, so some sips had some refreshing ube and coconut flavors, but most was just sour coffee to me. Not a fan and wouldn't order this again.
