My friend got the breakfast burrito and said it was very good as well. Its counter service and the line was not that bad when we showed up, so service was pretty quick. There were lots of available seating options and I really enjoyed the vibe. It was definitely a little pricey, but I would much rather prefer to come somewhere local like this than other chain breakfast/sandwich places. Anyway... for this place, it is just a name, and yes, I'll admit, it was fun to go to because of that name. Great little place with a lot of people hanging out -- as in you might not get a seat kind of hanging out. I had the Grilled Chicken BLT - Applewood Bacon, Arugula, Tomato, Black Pepper Mayo, Brioche and it was good. I sat at the "bar" which is somewhat awkwardly placed right across the lane where you place your order. I would say the one true downside I noticed while going there for lunch was the wait. I enjoyed the old Darwin's but for sitting and enjoying a meal the Smoot has really outdone themselves The space has a wide variety of seating options from couches to barstool to tables and a cozy loft space as well. I've been to both corporate events and parties here and the guests are always impressed. The atmosphere is lush, industrial, colorful, and natural all at once. The menu is nostalgic and delicious. I have so many favorites but especially the garlic bread, fried olives, and the burger. They also have innovative cocktails and the bartenders are excellent. Burrito (9/10): so flavorful!! the pickled jalapeños with the pulled pork was so delicious. Breakfast Sandwich (8.5/10): my boyfriend liked this one more than I did. It has a hash brown inside that was perfectly crispy! Docked 0.5 points for the service. This is a cute coffee shop near MIT, which is why the name is a fun inside joke. (A Smoot is a measurement of length.) The Smoot breakfast sandwich is really, really good! It has a piece of hash browns, egg, cheese, protein (bacon!) on a buttery brioche bun. Oh yum! It's not very filling, so if you are hungry, you might need more. The overnight oats were good (served chilled) and the avocado toast with bird seed and an egg was well received. Coffee is by the cup (no refills). Service is counter-based and they will clean up afterwards. It was clean and pleasant. The pricing is high-definitely Cambridge (think airport-style). My 16 year old son and I visited Boston for a Showball baseball showcase. We stayed at Le Méridien hotel nearby and ate most of our breakfast and dinners here! I really want to gatekeep this place because it's SOOOO good and the working space is unmatched, but I also think more people need to know about it and check it out. For the longest time, I thought this was like an MIT-only shop because I never saw that many people in here and because of the Smoot branding, but it's open to all!! This is an adorable coffee shop right on Mass Ave. in Central. I've gone during the weekdays to meet up with people or to work, and it's usually not too busy. The inside is really elegant--plenty of tables to work, outlets, and a few cozy chairs for chatting with friends. My most recent time, I got the prosciutto burrata sandwich. This place is really spacious! There are two floors and it's such a cute place. Good place to study during the day but at night, it turns into a bar. They hold various events at night, so they'll start to dim the lights when events are taking place. I got a matcha latter with a chocolate cake. SMOOT is the biggest cafe ripoff around! They are more expensive than Flour which is still overpriced but better quality food. For a small half cup of greek yogurt with granola and berries it is $11! I was shocked when I saw the size of the serving after I already ordered and paid. I thought it was a mistake. Flour's yogurt parfait is $7.00 for twice as much of yogurt ,granola and berries. smoot was alright! i arrived around 7:15pm. the interior lighting was very dim, arguably too dim. seating was spacious and abundant, and the loft is a fun feature. the food was good but the menu wasn't super appealing to me personally. you can't get any cafe drinks at night which i think is weird. service was good and the waiter was very kind. i wouldn't necessarily recommend smoot to someone, but it's a decent spot and i can see its appeal to others! read more

Of course, going to the Smoot Standard, we walked over the Mass Ave Bridge measured in the late 1950's with the 5'7" Mr Smoot himself. We love the Smoot, but gee it's hard to convert! Two had the breakfast sandwich (one noted the crisp bacon and hash browns were very good), another had the breakfast burrito filled with all sorts of good stuff and a good serving of carnitas. We ordered a banh mi sandwich, a chai latte, and split an almond croissant. They have some paper cups you can serve yourself water in. The croissant was a bit dry and didn't have a ton of filling--it either was a bit overbaked or had just been sitting there for a while and dried out, but the flakiness was on point. The banh mi sandwich was interesting, more banh-mi-inspired than actual banh mi I think, since it had less carrots/pickles/herbs and the bread wasn't super crispy. Still, it was pretty good.
