I was a little put off by the gentleman who checked me in, as I think he was on his break but then appeared to be done and didn't work with me but had me wait til one of the women was done with someone else. Maybe take the break out of sight? My nail stylist Allie was very friendly. She asked my name and was curious about me, but was also kind and quiet when I wanted to just relax. I live in Pittsburgh but was in Independence for a special event. My experience at the salon was fine. I had a pedicure and one of the nail technicians helped me find the perfect shade of purple/blue. It had an upcharge of $5 but I decided to splurge and do something new. I also had a set of acrylic nails applied and chose to match them with my pedicure. All was perfect that day (Thursday, 6/25/26) and through the evening. I received compliments on my nails from friends and strangers. However, one nail has popped off each of the 3 days since then. As a general standard, acrylic nails last about 2 weeks and I heard a nail tech relay the same info to another customer. I have not used my hands for anything unusual, in fact, I have not even been doing the typical activities like typing or washing dishes. The way the nails a just popping off randomly can only be related to the poor quality of their application. I have not reached out to the salon yet because they are closed today but will be sharing this review and photos. I wish that I could give this place a zero in stars. I went to get my tips removed to grow out my natural nail and get gel put on my real nail, but the lady ended up destroying my natural nail and now it is lifting off of my nail bed. she started trying to pry off the tip and I'm not even a nail tech and I know not to do that. My nail is probably going to end up coming off. I paid $30 just to leave with a broken nail when it is a professional place and I thought they would be able to remove tips. I am never going back here to pay that much money just to leave with the results I did not want. I also asked for manicure to get my cuticles removed. My cuticles are still on and she didn't even trim my cuticle off with the trimmer. She just moved the trimmer over my cuticle and called it a day. I went to Solid Nails Friday night, 11/27/23 for a fill. When I got home I realized that the polish was not applied correctly. I returned Saturday at 9:30 am. The manager told the woman who did my nails the night before to correct them. She removed the polish, but then told me I had to wait to have the polish applied because she was working on someone else. I waited for 30 minutes for someone to correct the poor job that was done. I finally went to the front of the salon to ask how much longer. The little manager told me that I had to wait for all of the ppl who came in after me Before they would polish my nails. At that point, I told him that was ridiculous! Even his customer was trying to come up with a solution. The woman next to him finally said that she would polish my nails when she got done with the customer she was working on. The manager in this salon is rude and unprofessional. Horrible experience. I wanted a gel manicure and pedicure. The lady used the electric file to remove my toe polish, digging into my actual nail. After I asked her to soak off the polish, she tried filing them more, and I again asked her to stop. She then scrubbed my heels with a cheese grater so hard my feet started to hurt. And I'm not sure why I let her continue but she then made me bleed doing my cuticles. I stopped the mani pedi all together. No polish. And didn't even let her start on my fingers. They then charged me full price for a pedicure and said they were giving me $5 off for removing the polish. Is that a joke? You charge to take off polish?! AND charge full price when your client clearly was upset by the service. I choose find another nail salon. read more

He repaired a bloody nail to perfection. . They charge sales tax . 36 for pedicure . 35 for a full . Used sealed and clean tools . He used gloves . Very knowledgeable and knew what to do! I recently moved and needed a nail salon closer to home. The staff was friendly. I didn't have an appointment (which I believe is preferred) but they fit me in after a 15 min wait. I'm used to a 60+ min wait on Saturday's on the east side so I was pretty happy to be serviced so quickly. I'm super picky about my shape and my nails were filed, shaped, and painted to perfection. Within the year just passed this salon has changed out all the personnel. I enjoyed the guys that worked here before however their work was relatively inconsistent. With the changeover I find the quality of my manicures and pedicures is so much better and consistent regardless of who does the work. Solid is a very nice, conveniently located nail salon in Independence. The one thing I really enjoy about this salon is they do take appointments. I hate going to walk-in places and trying to time it right. I generally get pedicures and manicures every four weeks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Gelish nail polish they offer here, however, on me it never last more than a week. (Regular manicures are only good for a day or two on my nails.) This place is well kept, has a variety of services and qualified, friendly technicians. My girlfriend had a child's birthday party here and it was a blast! I am going to have my birthday party here next year and I am in my 40's! read more

I'm really disappointed in my two experiences at Solid in Independence. The first time I went, I didn't even get a hello from the receptionist. Then my gel mani only lasted a week. The tech was nice though and decided to give it another try. I went last week, same receptionist coping an attitude and had another gel mani put on from a different tech. It's already starting to peel on 3 fingers and it's been just over a week. I've been getting gel mani's for a couple of years and they've last 2-3 weeks at a minimum. I haven't been exposing my nails to anything harsh or doing anything out of the ordinary. I can only attribute it to their technique or the quality of product they're using. Although it's a nice and clean environment, I won't be returning there to pay a premium for a mani that is sub-par. read more

This is the worst nail service I have received to date. I am here visiting from IL for work and I broke a nail so on my lunch break I stopped in to have it repaired. The gentleman was friendly however it's the worst looking nail I've seen ever. I blame it on Legally Blonde, but it's true: when I'm having a really bad day, sometimes getting my nails done really does turn it all around. Solid nail salon is a few miles away from me, yet I'd never been (maybe this was for good reason). I had to go to Drug Mart anyway, and they were near by, so I thought "Oh, I will see if they take walk ins! A pretty manicure would really hit the spot right about now." I should have just picked up a bottle of polish for $5 at Drug Mart and done it myself. The plus: it's clean inside and there are plenty of stations. They take walk ins as well as appointments, and I didn't wait at all. Now the bad: I had my nails done in the afternoon, but at dinner I noticed that I had some tip wear on one nail and a small chip on another, AND two nails had polish super thin that didn't cover my nail (and it's a dark polish). I can (and do) my nails better than this at home. The woman who did my nails was nice enough, but only enough. I never did hear her name, and she was happier to talk to her fellow employees, answer her phone, and nibble on her lunch than try to talk to me. I felt like I was bothering her. While she would carry on a conversation with co-workers, i just sort of... looked around. I didn't have a magazine or anything else to occupy me. When I walked in, I really debated getting a manicure and pedicure but I'm glad that I saved myself the money (and did a better pedicure at home). I was telling a friend about my experience and tried to defend the sub-par manicure by explaining that it wasn't expensive and one of the cheapest manicures that I've ever had, and she reminded me that regardless, it should have been done properly. While Solid has a nice range of polish colors, the majority of the bottles are half full or less. I'm not sure if my polish was so sheer because they were trying to get a bit more time out of the bottle or if it's a fluke (not naming the brand, but I have plenty of polishes - minimum 40 - by this brand and this is NOT usual). There were some polishes that made me wonder why they're not in the trash can. I should have just brought some color from home. Scratch that, I should have just stayed at home. It would have been more relaxing, my hand massage would have lasted longer, it would look better, AND last longer. I feel like I got ripped off. I was hoping to find a cute place where i could take my friend for her nails before her wedding (in October). This is NOT it. The manicurist didn't seem to care if I liked how it looked or if I ever came back. read more

Made an appointment for pedicure and manicure on September 26th , told me I had to wait awhile . Salon got very busy with only two on staff. The lady I had was rushing so much she cut my toe and apologized to top it off when she did my nails taking the gel polish off she cut my finger with the grinder they use, its been three days and my toe still hurts hope its not infected. first of all, this salon isn't anything special. it's your typical hole in the wall nail salon. i usually go to places that are nicer but this is close to my house and a friend referred me so i gave it a try. i was charged $64 for a GEL TOE POLISH CHANGE. NOT a pedicure. I also tipped $12 on top of that. so i paid $72 total for a toe polish change. i thought it was high at the time but i didn't say anything. when i called to book my next appointment i asked how much a gel french toe polish change is including filing and clipping the skin and nails. i was told $33. i then asked how much a gel french pedicure is and i was told $59. so this leaves me very confused as to why i paid more than a pedicure is priced for a toe polish change. the owner on the phone asked me if i had acrylic on my toes and maybe that's why the price was so high and i said no i have never gotten acrylic on my toes. i was told to bring proof of purchase into the salon when i come for my next appointment. i made an appointment for 12 and waited until 12:35 and ended up leaving because i made an appointment for a reason. before i left i asked the owner if we could figure out why i was charged so much for a toe polish change. he said that i got a pedicure. i absolutely DID NOT get a pedicure. this service was only my second time at this salon i remember what i got. my first time there i got a pedicure, my second time being charged $64 i got a toe polish change. i do not appreciate being accused of lying. the appointment was booked for a pedicure and as soon as i sat down i told the girl that i am only getting a polish change i do not want a pedicure. i did not even soak in the water. so because it shows in the system as a pedicure i was charged for that when i DID NOT receive that service. if i did, i wouldn't be questioning the price because i would have received what i paid for - which i didn't. mind you i did not ONCE ask for money back or any compensation i simply was asking why i paid $64 for a toe polish change and not a single person could answer that other than telling me i got a pedicure which i DID NOT. so i feel extremely taken advantage of as a customer being accused of lying because of their own un organization and miscommunication. it is not the customer's job to make sure the system says the correct service of what the customer actually received. i have no idea what the system says. i was also told by the owner why didn't i come the next day to complain. i said because i didn't know i was overcharged until i called for my next appointment and was told the pricing. i was charged MORE than a pedicure for a polish change i'm just appalled at the way they handled this. again, i did not ask for a single thing other than an explanation and was not given one other than i received a service that i absolutely did not receive. as a business owner myself, this is complete negligence and scammy. not to mention waiting over a half hour and still not seen for an appointment i booked for a specific time. they do not honor appointment times at this salon and they do not value their customers. will not ever be returning. read more

Well, it turns out my review was premature. After going to a few other salons I experienced the same issues listed in my review there as well. Obviously that was a red flag. Turns out I'm allergic to the artificial nail components and it was NOT something Solid had done. It was just crazy timing. The owners who run this nail shop are both rude and unprofessional. They often make you wait long periods of time even when you have an appointment. Lee often broke my skin when using a drill causing me pain for days. I have moved on ... but wanted to write a review to warn clients. Clients- remember "the customer is always right" not shop owners. They talk in their native language about the clients they serve while you're being served. That's so rude and it's just unacceptable. New owners but same nasty attitude and rude behavior. It won't be long - they will regret being rude to the clients they serve. There are nails shops literally on every corner now, don't spend your hard earned money with nail shops like this. Poor service, nasty attitude, priced to high, building/shop outdated and run down looking, broken pedi chairs and unpleasant culture/environment. When you walk in the door, they literally verbally attack you - basically saying "what you want" ! no eye contact and they don't have a friendly/welcoming greeting.
