Our 13 year old son has been training here close to 2 years and 6 year old son about 6 months. They have gained so much confidence, respect and discipline. Coach Fernando who leads the Shark Youth is awesome with the kids and highly regarded by my 13 year old. Kiko who leads the Guppies Youth has my utmost respect, not only does he have patience, but still hold the kids accountable for doing their part. Coach Kirby who leads the Sharks Youth on Saturdays is also awesome and has his way of teaching which my 13 year old loves. Coach Kiko, Coach Fernando, and Coach Mike all care very much about their students and are well reputed in the local martial arts community. Recently I had the honor of trying their evening gi classes. Like most Jiujitsu classes you'll start with warm ups to ready your body for drilling specific moves and techniques. This can range from grip fighting, take downs, and self defense, to attacks, sweeps, positioning, and escapes when the fight hits the ground. After working on the moves, you will get a chance to apply them in a live sparring setting under the supervision and guidance of the instructors. I trained jiu jitsu for four years and had just moved; I was hopping around different gyms and luckily found Solidarity. Solidarity Jiu Jitsu is a very welcoming gym that makes you feel at home and offers a dynamic training experience depending on what you're looking for. If you just want to dip your toes in and learn, the instructors are very accommodating. If you're looking to train hard and improve your game to the next level, the instructors will be more than happy to provide this to you, and they have both the talent, skill, and experience to do so. They are also part of the Caio Terra Association, arguably the best association in California. This means access to a top notch curriculum, and guest instructors that are some of the best practitioners in the world. The gym itself is spacious, clean, and always at a comfortable temperature. A large mat space is important, and you'll find not many have as much as Solidarity. The gym also has two large bathrooms and a water bottle filling station that provides cold water. Kickboxing classes are scheduled right after the jiu jitsu classes making it easy to do both. If you have kids, they provide many classes with three separate age groups. This ensures the other kids your child trains with will be a similar weight and physicality, and will be easier to make friends with. For now it's still a hidden gem, I would recommend joining before they become more well known about their high end service and facility and are flooded with a lot of students. The hardest part of jiu jitsu is walking in for the first time. Nobody regrets starting to train, they just regret not starting sooner. There are so many fantastic things to say about Solidarity: the kids have fun, they learn *real* jiu jitsu and exercise, but also things like gratitude and respect. Part of what drew us here was the fact that the kids actually get on the mat. They practice on each other and get physical, not just hypothetical drills in the air. My husband and step child have started taking classes with Solidarity. During the Saturday kids session my husband bring our 3 year old. The coaches are so kind and set up games for my 3 year old and play with him. The other day we were at the playground and my 3 year old climbed up something pretty high and I asked him how he learned to be so brave. His response was "Kiko taught me to be brave", and anytime you ask him how he learned to be brave he references Kiko. Kiko is one of the coaches at Solidarity.
