    Best gym in San Jose

This is a great boxing gym...great facilities, great owners and great coaches. There is zero 'tough guy bad attitude' here, which is unfortunately present in a lot of the other fighting gyms I've been a member of. Dreamland is a very welcoming gym. At 52 years old, I joined over a year ago and have dropped 30lbs and kept it off with 3 classes a week. Not only is it a very effective workout it is also very enjoyable and it puts me in a great mood after attending.

I have been following Dreamland Boxing Club for some time. I not only know people who workout there but I have had the privilege to know the owners, Jesse and Gina. So I finally got out to check it out in person rather than on Instagram. The gym is spacious and has all the equipment you need to work out or go a couple rounds. All the patrons seem to be supportive and there seems to be a family like atmosphere here. There were folks of all ages and children too. I don't work out, but I like boxing, maybe one day I'll be inspired enough to join in the fun. It is located in the Cambrian neighborhood, back side of the shopping center, spacious with plenty of parking.

I came across Relentless Boxing, saw that the owner and coach, Arturo, is a former professional boxer, and that the gym actively trains and competes fighters. Everything looked solid, so I reached out to set up training sessions. Coach Arturo is an excellent teacher. He was patient with my learning process and beginner-level gaps, explained things clearly, and created a welcoming environment from the start. Each session was enjoyable and productive, and he gave me specific drills and exercises I could work on independently to improve my weaknesses. I told him footwork was my biggest area of concern, and he delivered exactly what I was looking for in both coaching and instruction. Don't feel intimidated by the fact that this is a real fighter's gym. If you're serious about learning proper boxing skills and technique, this is a great place to train. Come in with a positive mindset, be respectful and committed to learning, and Coach Arturo will genuinely help you progress toward your goals. 1000% recommend this gym for any level of boxing.

Both experiences were incredible! I am so blown away by the community-minded, clean, humble, hard working spirit of this gym and its owner, Cesar. My sister and I got such a great work out, and had so much fun that I brought my team a month or two later. My team bonded so much over the experience. Cesar was attentive and welcoming, he pushed us while still being inclusive, we had fun together and we internalized the theme of our offsite: step into the ring. Incredible team building and so different than the typical corporate events! Highly recommend!

Their website says they welcome…read morechildren of all experience levels, all needs which made me feel comfortable enrolling him as a beginner. But from the first class, he was placed with kids who already knew the basics. There was no real introduction to fundamentals. He was just expected to follow along. One trainer checked in briefly now and then, had my son hit pool noodles then moved on, never once got down to his level and showed him how to punch properly or how to stand properly, you know the fundamentals, so basically I'm paying $275 just for my son to punch pool noodles randomly, this place felt like a joke. those moments weren't enough to help my son understand what to really do. I brought this up to the coach because I wanted to give the program a fair shot. I explained that my concern wasn't my son's ability. It was that he hadn't been taught the fundamentals, and that the gym advertises support for beginners. Instead of addressing that, it felt like the conversation shifted toward the idea that I was expecting too much from my son. That wasn't it. I wasn't expecting more from my child. I was expecting more from the COACHING staff. Any beginner needs guidance to get started. The coach dismissively suggested moving my seven-year-old into the three to five-year-old group, which didn't seem like an appropriate solution. When I said that, I was told that if I wanted more one-on-one instruction, I would need to pay extra for private sessions. That was not what I was asking for. I just wanted a standard level of instruction for beginners that was described on the site. At that point, I felt my concerns weren't being heard, so I canceled our membership. I think this gym could be a good fit for kids who already have boxing experience. But based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend it for true beginners who need the fundamentals taught. I hope they consider offering a more structured beginner path, because that would make a real difference for new families.

I've tried a variety of boxing gyms around the Bay Area--including 3rd Street, Hit Fit SF, B Street, Relentless, Los Gatos, TITLE, Royal Boxing, and Rumble--and Stone offers the best balance I've found between a solid workout, practical technique, and a welcoming atmosphere. Schedule: Classes run from as early as 5:15 a.m. to as late as 8 p.m., making it easy to find one that fits your schedule. Class structure: Classes are mixed-level and vary by day and coach. Some are more cardio-focused, while others emphasize technique. Each coach also has a distinct teaching style, with some providing especially detailed instruction that's helpful for newer boxers. Complete beginners may find the mixed-level format challenging at first, but the coaches and other members are friendly and willing to help. I recommend trying several classes to find the coaches whose styles suit you best. Technique and coaching experience: Something I struggled to find at s gyms was instruction in intermediate and advanced techniques backed by real fighting experience. You'll get that here. Every coach is experienced and has spent time in the fight game. Classes cover areas such as defense, footwork, partner drills, and responding to different fight scenarios--not just combinations on a heavy bag. The coaches are also responsive to what members want to improve. I've had entire classes focus on footwork, defense, or partner drills simply because I mentioned to Andy that I felt weak in those areas. Community: The coaches make an effort to know your name--and if they don't yet, they'll learn it. At the end of every session, the whole gym gives one another props. Those two details say a lot about the community at Stone and made a lasting impression on me from my first few classes. If you want a challenging workout while learning boxing skills you can actually use, Stone is well worth checking out.
