Today we took our daughter for the first time ever to this place to see if she would like it. She…read moreended up really enjoying it, however things took a very strange turn quickly. Again, this is the first time she had ever tried this so expectations should be low. From what I could see my daughter was doing great, but the instructor seemed to be very serious and in the end she said my daughter was not "ready" while she seemed to be doing just fine compared to even some of the kids that were there for awhile. How is some supposed to learn if you don't train them and give them more than one chance? You don't just give up on someone with only one try. My daughter was very excited when she got home and was hoping to go for a second round. Very disappointing and unprofessional as you're supposed to train these kids and not give up on them this quickly. These aren't adults and the instructor is supposed to teach them the skills if they feel like they are initially lacking. As someone who did martial arts around the same age as my daughter and for many years of my life, I'm shocked and appalled and the lack of empathy and care from this place.

This review is based on a trial for the age 4-7 kids class…read more Before class started, the coach was speaking to a kid in a "you better or else" way and we thought maybe he was a parent speaking to his kid. He wasn't. It wasn't. The coach shoved a kid forward, and our initial thought was the kid tripped and lost his balance but no.. it was clear he was shoved when the coach shoved another kid and he did the same topple forward motion, while saying "get over there you know where you're supposed to be" NOTE: he did NOT shove every kid. These 2 appeared to be particularly familiar with the coach. The coaches made little to no attempt to build rapport, engage or really help the new kid. When said new kid raised a concern, he was ignored by the main coach and then brushed off by the second one. Overall, Lute is a little cheaper, but not a great environment for kids IMHO. It's a shame as it is physically the closest gym to us so would be the most convenient. I really wanted it to work out, but I just couldn't get on board with their environment and approach (or lack thereof) Whoever does the email correspondence comes off a little abrasive, but the woman filling in for the front desk person was nice enough.

My name is Juan, and finding Gloglo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing Academy has honestly been…read moreone of the best decisions I've made--not just for myself, but for my family as well. My 20-year-old daughter and I train here together, and that alone says a lot about the kind of environment this academy provides. From day one, we both felt welcomed. The atmosphere is respectful, positive, and motivating. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or experienced--everyone is treated like part of the team. As a father, it means a lot to train in a place where I know my daughter is in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment. Head Instructor Leo is the foundation of everything great about this academy. His knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is incredibly high level, but what stands out most is how he teaches. He has the ability to break down complex techniques into simple, understandable steps, making it easier for both me and my daughter to learn and improve. He emphasizes not just technique, but discipline, respect, and real-life application. You can tell he genuinely cares about every student's growth, both on and off the mats. Coach David brings a powerful energy to every class. He's intense in the best way--pushing you to give your best while still making sure you're learning correctly. His attention to detail is incredible, and he's always there to make adjustments that take your skills to the next level. Training with him keeps you sharp, focused, and constantly improving. Coach Caden is someone who really connects with students, especially when it comes to building confidence. He's patient, approachable, and explains techniques in a way that truly clicks. My daughter, in particular, has benefited from his coaching style--he creates an environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and pushing yourself without pressure. Training here has been an amazing experience for both of us. The classes are structured, challenging, and rewarding. Whether it's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or kickboxing, every session builds not just physical strength, but mental toughness and confidence. What really makes this place special is the community. It's rare to find a gym where people genuinely support each other the way they do here. Everyone is respectful, helpful, and motivated to grow together. It's not just a gym--it's a team, and it feels like a second family. The facility is clean, organized, and professional. Everything runs smoothly, and you can see the pride they take in maintaining a high standard. Being able to train alongside my daughter in such a positive and high-level environment is something I truly value. Gloglo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing Academy has given us more than just training--it's given us a shared experience, growth, and lasting memories. I highly recommend this academy to anyone, whether you're coming in alone or with family. You won't regret it. -- Juan. D

His patience, dedication, and knowledge have made a real impact on our daughter, who is not only building great character traits but also is learning practical self-defense skills. The classes are designed for those genuinely interested in learning jiu jitsu as a martial art--a form of personal growth, not just sport. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a gym opened up much closer to where I lived. I was even more surprised by how much I have enjoyed the people that I've met (and rolled with) at Daruma. When I picked my very first gym, I passed on at least 3 different gyms because of the culture. In one of the gyms, the head coach/ professor didn't seemed involved. At another gym, I was being pushed to buy long term memberships and their expensive gi/ uniform. I never got those feelings with Daruma. Everyone has been super kind and supportive. The Milpitas location is still a relatively new (as of 2026) so some of the adult classes have a smaller turnout. This can be really good for people just starting in the sport, but I personally just like to roll. My step son also started Daruma with me and he loves it. The class structure is very fun and the coaches are really good about watching out for the kids safety. It's also been a really great experience for me and my stepson to bound over this shared activity.

The…read moreenvironment is welcoming, the coaches are great, and the kids are clearly having fun while learning jiujitsu - plus, it doesn't hurt that every class ends with a fun game of dodge ball or zombies. Daruma Dojo originally opened in Sunnyvale, and we're so glad they expanded to Milpitas. A friend recommended this place to us, and it definitely did not disappoint. Daruma Dojo offers classes for kids/teens and adults. Adults can choose from morning or evening classes. For kids, ages 4-6 attend class from 4:30-5:30pm, while 7-15 train from 5:30-6:30, Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday classes are combined for ages 6-15. It's truly a family-friendly environment - so much that some parents have even joined after seeing their kids train! Membership also allows access to both Milpitas and Sunnyvale locations, though we haven't visited the Sunnyvale location yet. The front staff are friendly and welcoming, and the professors and coaches are patient and do a great job of explaining techniques in a way kids understand.
