I am very happy with Solinsky Eye Care and have been going there for over two years. All the staff I met are friendly and Dr. Jeng is always professional and supportive. However, now I feel disappointed this time due to my eye surgery appointment. I have been scheduled for the surgery two weeks ago and was told to use eye drops one day before the surgery. I kept calling three days before the surgery for the eye drop pick up and was always told that someone would contact me. Since tomorrow is the surgery, I am supposed to use the eye drop today. I called again and eventually was told the surgery has to be cancelled due to insurance issues. I asked them why no one told me, especially since I have already planned for two days off from work. They said they did call me several times and left messages. The staff even said they called me at 9:07am this morning. I am home waiting for the call, my phone shows no missed call and no voice mail. I feel upset because I trust Solinsky. It is understandable for whatever reason you have to cancel the surgery, but it is not acceptable for not telling the client ahead of time and make excuses. I hope you understand how frustrating this is. read more

My son ended up with metal fragments in his left eye on Tuesday. We were able to seen in your west hartford office on wednesday. After all the check ins we were seen by a dr. very quickly they entered his eye with medical tools without much communication regarding what would be happening in those moments. It was FAST. Only some of the fragments were able to with what seemed like some ease. The dr we had needed to then dig around deeper under a different layer in the eye which he stated while as he was pursuing the remaining pieces in the deeper layer. My son felt this and communicated the pain notably to the dr. Unfortunately my son suffers from Vaso Vago Syncope, which we both said at that time and became very light headed lost all his color and stated he felt he was going to pass out. A break was taken and an additional attempt was made to dig deeper shortly after but without success. We were wrapped up pretty quickly from there and told that he would could experience some pain following the wearing off of the numbing drops. We did ask for an additional drop so we could make it home without pain. This was administered because my son stated he was already in that pain. The drop was applied and ointment/sav of antibiotics was given along with an eye patch. A follow up procedure was booked for Friday, two days later, which we haven't attended just yet, its tomorrow. However, my son has deteriorated since then (today is Thursday) he cannot have a single shred of light hit his good eye OR his bad eye. Light to the good eye shoots off pain to the bad eye and it's entire socket. Today we had to complete HIPAA paperwork over text before I could assist him by communicating on his behalf. He did this, barely 5 documents, couldn't see. We attempted together to both speak to a nurse or one of the Dr's there to attempt to communicate all that is being experienced and the pain that he is in at this stage (the night and day after initial procedure - so Thursday). IT IS SHOCKING to spend an entire morning of calling and not being put through to an actual medical professional. Not a staffer at the desk....a nurse or a dr. We were told refutably and undeniably that we would not be able to speak to anyone out side of the people answering the phones in the office at the front desk, that "maybe the Dr would see their messages but it doesn't guarantee a call to us". So we are still waiting for this which doesn't appear to be forthcoming. In the meantime he's deteriorating even more and needed something for pain at this point. Called them again and this time asked for something for pain however we were met with "oh, we don't give pain medication to our patients, the drs are not allowed to prescribe this. We will have to send out a request form to your PCP and you will have to follow up with them". At this point I had to cancel the rest of my clients and drive down to the PCP's office to check out if they sent the form. The staff at our PCP's office seemed to reel in their heads while they themselves were trying to understand how a surgical eye center could perform such and intensive procedure in an office there without being able to support potential repercussions of such procedure without having ability to provide an RX for pain? They gave an RX for antibiotic? The form did ultimately get received and our PCP gave our son something to help ease his pain but what in Gods name is happening here? You can knowingly leave a patient in this position and call it game? I tried to call again to the eye drs. once more a few minutes prior to sharing this information. I wanted to see if now that we have a completed HIPAA if could please speak to a nurse about his current condition or a dr. I was told "NO" "unfortunately, no. We do not have the ability to allow you speak to anyone, there is no one that can do this for you. You do have your appointment in the morning tomorrow here and you can opt to not come but if you do that WE ARE NOT LIABLE so you know, it would be on you" So here we are. In a basement. No communication, no help, no service. Only help from our own PCP who can do nothing more for us. I am not the type AT ALL but a visit to a lawyer will be forthcomin read more

I went to the West Hartford office two weeks ago and was advised to reschedule my lazer eye treatment as it was too long of a drive home as my ride had a work commitment. I was told at that time,that West Hartford was the only office doing such procedures. My ride was confirmed and the appointment was set for Tuesday. But because West Hartford was too far a drive ho, they booked it in Enfield, an hour and half from home. Then when I got to Enfield, I was told that a lazer treatment was to be done in both eyes. I was well aware that this Wes not correct and after a few back and forth, the assistant did reread the instructions and admitted it was only for the right eye. I get the impression that it's all about the procedures and not the patient's needs. read more

Paid extra to have the better surgery on my glaucoma and wow was I shocked when i got the bill and the cost for them to use a facility where the surgery was performed. Seeing black spots over a year later! The front desk in W Hartford is horrendous, rude as heck! The good is the staff at the Vernon and Glastonbury offices were very attentive and the exam appointments went fine. The problem is have is you dont have a choice as to where you have your surgical procedures and follow up exams. Extremely inconvenient for those who have to depend on transportation from family, friends or even Uber! I overheard conversations in the offices from patients that this is problematic. Also, some of the staff I have encountered when calling to ask questions were not very pleasant.( I should have gotten names- the Newington & W.H. offices specifically). read more

My experience at the Rocky Hill Surgery Center with Dr. Alan Solinsky for my cataract removal: When you were young, and you went to a Summer Camp for a week, you met many new friends and made new friends. I spent $8,000 for surgery to not wear glasses and $9,000 for outpatient servces at a Hartford Hospital Satelite. Solinsky's office staff never informed me that there would be additional charges outside the $8,000. I will end up spending $17,000 and I am still wearing glasses 50% of the time as I am still working and need them to see computer and my phone. I needed a follow up appointment , there was none near me, I accepted an appointment at the East Hartford office. I was late because I got lost. I called to say I was lost. They gave me directions. I got there. Then they said I was too late and I had to leave and make an appointment on another day. I was 20 minutes late , there policy is 15 minutes late. Maybe they could have told me when I called to say I was running late! I drove an hour to get there and then I had to drive home all for nothing and the receptionist was not enough nice to me. Terrible . I will never call Solinsky eye care again and I am certainly going to tell every one I know about how poorly I have been treated. read more

I am a big fan of Solinsky Eye Care. I had cataract surgery with lens implants. Because I opted for Light-Adjustable Lens, I had multiple visits over several weeks. First, Doctor Alan Solinsky is one of the finest eye surgeons in the country. The practice is bustling, yet as busy as he is, Dr. S. always takes his time and double-checks everything. He is incredibly patient and caring, always listening attentively. The West Hartford location has a vast staff of doctors, technicians, and support personnel on multiple floors. Everyone I interacted with was warm, friendly, caring, and professional. During every visit, I knew I was in the best place, receiving the best care from the most qualified professionals. The bonus was how wonderful and friendly every single person I met was! Having eye surgery can be a scary event. However, I can't imagine a better place or people to care for you than Solinsky Eye Care! read more

I have been a satisfied patient of Solinski Eye Care for many years and have always been pleased with his services. During 2022, I had my cataracts removed at their recommendation. I chose Dr. Jeng to perform the surgeries because he had glowing reviews. There were three removal procedures to pick from. The basic procedure which Medicare fully covered (cataract removal, glasses required), to the most advanced procedure covered in part by Medicare and an additional $3,750, each eye, out of my pocket (greater surgical precision, corrects astigmatism, no glasses, enhanced range of vision). The procedure was called Lazer Cataract Surgery and Advanced Technology Lenses which I had performed for each eye. I felt the most advanced procedure would result in a better outcome. After the surgeries and recommended healing periods for both eyes. My vision for distance remained marginal. My reading vision improved however it was uncomfortable to read for any length of time. I kept on seeing Dr. Jeng for periodic checkups because of the deficits, hoping they would improve. They did not. Ultimately, not satisfied, I switched to another vision provider who prescribed glasses for me resulting in improved distance and reading vision. Why am I writing this review? In my experience, if you choose the most expensive, most advanced procedure, it is very possible your outcome may be no better than if you choose the basic removal procedure and you will save $7,500. I had two separate occurrences, where I paid for premium services, and had less than positive outcomes. I was advised that there were no guarantees and signed waivers. I am not qualified to evaluate or address if Dr. Jeng did anything other than normal procedures. Obviously, something did not go according to plan. My outcomes were less than positive, in my opinion, and knowing what I know now, I would have made a different decision and choose, the basic procedure saving $7,500. John Steniger read more

I had been to Solinsky in West Hartford twice for eye exams and glasses. Both times felt like a factory. Get in, get out. After the second appointment I received a phone call stating since I had failed the hearing test she was confirming my appointment for hearing aids. I was confused. I never took a hearing test. Never knew they offered hearing tests/aids. What a scam. I found another optometrist that I am very happy with. Today I received an email from "The Front Desk at Solinskyeyecare,com" regarding Adjustable Lens Cataract Surgery. The "to" section includes over 600 (!!!!) patient email addresses, mine included. I immediately called Solinsky to advise of the breach of privacy. "Gosh, so sorry. We hire a firm to send out these offers. I will advise them and see if they can retract." Because of Solinsky all of us on that list (that has now been made public) are susceptible to spam and security breaches. read more

I am giving this review solely for Dr Orr and his staff in Glastonbury. He is an awesome surgeon. Everyone's vision is so important to them. I would trust him with any procedure. He consistently asks about your comfort level and patiently answers any question. I will be having a second corneal transplant at the end of this month and a am confident that it will turn out as good as the first. read more

They get 5 stars because you can't give 10 stars on Yelp. After a couple years with another eye Dr and a lot of different glasses and contacts that didn't solve my problem or improve my vision I decided to get another opinion. During my first appt Dr Solinsky identified a cataract as my issue, we did some follow up tests and scheduled the cataract surgery. I am not a medical or surgery person and to say I was nervous is an understatement but the Dr and everyone on his staff were supportive and helpful in getting me into and through surgery. After worrying for weeks the day of my surgery finally came and it was simple and pretty pain free, I was home within a couple of hours and my vision was immediately better. The nurses made sure I was well taken care of, even holding my hand during the surgery which helped me feel comfortable when I was definitely nervous. I came home and slept a few hours and woke up feeling fine, no pain or issues with my eye at all. I went for my follow up appt and I had 20/20 vision.. I couldn't be happier, with the results and the Dr and his staff. They go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and you have a positive experience, you can tell that they really care. The office is completely safe during covid with temp checks, separated seating in the waiting areas and continual cleaning of everything.. given how many of their patients are older and at a higher risk this was great to see. I hope you never need glasses or eye surgery but these are the folks to call if you do.. they do hearing services also if you need some help there. By far the best medical experience I have had and I would happily refer their services to anyone who asks. read more

Used to be great. Has grown and is absolutely terrible now. Staff incompetent. I called about an appointment last week and the staff member told me I had 3 appointments in a row in January. Turns out she was looking at the wrong year. Son went to get his contact lens RX updated and they failed to give him his RX when he left and did not inform him he could get filled through them. Had to call 3 times to sort out. Still don't have the contact lens RX. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Solinsky since he began his practice over 30 years ago, so of course I trusted him to perform my laser-assisted cataract surgery at the Hartford Healthcare Eye Surgery Center in Newington. From the receptionist who greeted me to all the nurses and anesthesiologists who supported the procedure, I was treated with the utmost care and respect. At any given time there are roughly a dozen patients being prepped, but I felt that I was getting all the attention I needed. Dr. Solinsky is preeminent in his field, and I'm thrilled with the outcome. He performed the first procedure a week ago and the second yesterday, and at today's post-op visit to his office I was thrilled that I'm 20/20 in both eyes! His is a large practice with ten or so locations, so I have never gotten to know the office staff. Nevertheless, I can recommend Solinsky Eye Care without reservation, and I applaud him for his many efforts to give back to the community. read more

This place absolutely sucks. I usually am a bit more polite than that, but there's just no way around it. Every single time my wife and I go in there, we are billed incorrectly. Once it was for services we never received! Right now I am in the middle of trying to get a bill I know for a fact should be covered fully under my insurance taken care of. This has been ongoing for months. I am shuttled between department and department. Each one says "I'll get back to you in a couple of days." Then nothing happens for weeks and I have to call back. In the latest call, I was placed on hold for ten minutes and then hung up on. They just suck. Plain and simple. Don't use them. Once this bill is done being disputed, we're switching immediately. read more

Soon as you entered the eye glasses area on the lower level, the first female staff member to the left sitting next to the African American male isn't welcoming at all. She appears to have an attitude every visit and not helpful at all. She doesn't greet the patients, sits there with a blankstare and watches you like you're going to steal something. She's definitely not getting up to help you pick out a pair of glasses Maybe she should work in the back away from the patients with that type of attitude. Poor Customer service!! read more

I referred my husband here as a new patient, for an issue with his eye. He called for an appointment the call went to a call center and because he didn't have his actual insurance card yet just the ID # and group # she said they wouldn't see him. He asked why not when he is able to provide all the necessary information and she replied "cause that ain't how we do it here". Needless to say he went elsewhere and I will not be returning either. Your front desk or the people who answer your phones, give your office the first impression. Ladies your attitude is horrible. Be nice its that's simple what is it so hard! read more

I was referred to Solinsky EyeCare by my regular eye doctor due to a scratched cornea. They were incredibly accommodating and were able to fit me in that day. My appointment was with Dr. Orr, and he was extremely knowledgeable and kind. In addition to curing my eye, he made me feel like I was important. He took the time to explain the drops he was prescribing, wrote out all of the instructions for me, and answered all of my questions. I was also very impressed by his assistant Fovaz (I hope I didn't botch the spelling). I would highly recommend Solinsky EyeCare, and Dr. Orr in particular to anyone looking for an eye doctor. read more

I had laser surgery through my contact lense. Not a problem in itself, but a sign that nobody took the trouble to double check before the laser treatment started. I was a bit shaken, consulted another doctor who reassured me. The office does not seem to have optimized its organization; you have been to happier, more caring offices, for sure. One nurse was wearing shearling sleepers which I did not think looked professional. Second visit, I was 8 minutes late on a Friday. I had to drive in from work and ran into a spot of traffic. I know I was 8 minutes late because this is how the receptionist greeted me. I had forgotten my ID in my car, in my haste. She cancelled the appointment. They have been calling and emailing to reschedule. I think it is worth looking for a better option. read more

I ordered glasses in late September.....now mid October and I am not getting any responsive communications regarding the order status. This is unacceptable. Also, when they (glasses store) were trying to up-sell me on (whatever) during my visit, they'd say option A was like buying a Honda and option B was like buying a Lexus. Not only are they mistaken as to what company makes what cars, but their clear lack of a detailed understanding of their own product specs was shocking. My experience with this clinic has been THE WORST I've had with any clinic. I've been in USA for 24 years, and have always been treated with courtesy and consideration in different medical facilities. The staff here made several mistakes, didn't apologize for any of them, didn't communicate with us in a timely manner, and acted like they just wanted our money. Notably terrible is their surgical coordinator, Hazel, who treated us horribly. We picked this clinic because Dr. Solinsky was recommended by our optometrist, and because of excellent google reviews. So perhaps they just reserve this horrible treatment for patients with a darker skin tone (we're of Indian origin). Shame on this clinic for such racial discrimination. read more

I had a similar situation related to insurance/billing. My son went for his yearly visit for amblyopia check. He got a full exam for amblyopia and got his new prescriptions. The doctor told us to come back two months later to see wether he's OK with the new glasses. When we came back for the next time, the entire visit was barely 10 mins only related to his new glasses. The doctor said the new prescription was all good. But no exam about amblyopia or whatsoever. However, we were billed for the medical exam which my insurance did not cover. Although I spent a lot of time on the phone for multiple occasions they did not correct it. When I talked to their supervisor, she was even more arrogant. I tried to explain the situation. I know how a visit/exam for amblyopia is and it's not 10 min! She was like, it's what the doctor wrote there and I take it as the word of bible. (Doctor actually wrote follow up visit and plus there can be mistakes). Anyways, so after I realized there is no point in arguing I gave up. But I don't pay the bill, let them give it to the collection. It's not the matter of paying 80 bucks out of pocket as probably I lost more spending hours on the phone with them. But I just don't feel we've been treated fair. Also they lost my entire family of four as patients. Me, my wife and my two sons all had our eye exams and prescriptions there. read more

I got a bill after my cataract surgery for a high co-pay after I had already paid a hefty amount of $$$. Also, at my pre-surgery appointment, Solinsky had the nerve to ask me if I had paid yet. Wow, how unprofessional, and, he told me that cataract surgery was not covered by Medicare. Wrong. My eyes are worse now after cataract surgery with regards to nighttime driving. I am now afraid to drive at night! I will never go back to this place again. read more

This place is a mill. My mother went for her cataract surgery to Solinsky. While the surgery went fine, the follow up care was ridiculous. Overbooked appointments, jam packed waiting rooms and totally disrespectful of their patient's time. I would NEVER recommend this practice. read more

How I hate this Solinsky eye care ... there are no words to describe .... I was a patient in one of the independent Doc offices that Mr. Solinsky swallowed up. To start it appears they are now using these fresh, off the turnip cart, newly graduated students. They have very little experience. I went for a refraction and I was given a totally incorrect script for my glasses. I ended up going to another practice to have another exam and refraction. I finally received the correct script which was way off from what his intern had written. My next issue is with their horrific billing department. They incorrectly coded a visit and as a result my claim were denied. The billing department did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to correct their error. I had to get majorly involved and send letters with records, etc. They also use a third party billing company that is atrocious. I was promised by a manager, Jessica, that things were corrected. One year later, that is right, one year later, I receive a bill for the visit and guess what ..... Jessica no longer works for this heinous organization. I guess she got smart .... Folks, do yourself a favor and don't even think about using these jerks for your eye health. There are much better eye professional offices out there. This is what happens when a mom and pop practice gets turned into a McDonalds chain .. Nothing but aggravation. Bottom Line ... Solinsky eyecare Sucks !!! read more

Shorthand experience and observation of normally scheduled eye exam: The staff takes temperature upon arrival before entering the building and has you sign a COVID-19 waiver. Distance measures in place. A few employees assembled in the waiting room. I waited in the exam room for tech, wanted to wash my hands. Disappointed that soap dispenser was empty in the exam room. Tech disposition was nice, however considering COVID19, she touched her face and surgical mask too much. I did not see her wash hands. Autorefractor was in the walkway/hallway on the office floor - not the best place to have since clusters of people walked by and would stop to a halt. Dilation drops were used, I assumed all eye drops would be single use since COVID-19 can be contracted through eyes - drops bottle touch eyelashes, etc. Relieved to speak with Doctor with vision concerns, and he didn't touch his face at all. There was another medical professional in a room during my exam; I wish they would have introduced themselves. The techs part of the exam was rushed; they probably needed to clear the room to fulfill limited capacity measures. Not confident that I was given the correct RX for my glasses. Requested a copy of COVID-19 waiver, I didn't get it. read more

I went here only because it's in the list the insurance uses and it was a big mistake. They are way too expensive and when you pay your bill they try to double bill you and rip you off so be sure to save your receipts. It's also a good place to go when you want to pay twice as much as anywhere else then this is the place for you. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Our wonderful Dr. Dolan sold his practice in Glastonbury to Solinsky Eye Care upon his retirement, an unfortunate choice IMHO. . I do not believe I have ever dealt with a less responsive and less caring company. On the one occasion I was able to get a person who used to work for Dr. Dolan she was CLEARLY not a happy camper and not the friendly employee I remember from all the years before. That in and of itself is telling. Over a week ago we called to inquire about a prescription situation with my husband. You can never, ever, reach a person there, but must leave a voicemail. That would be okay if calls were returned, but they never are. After 48 hours we called again, and this time actually got an agent by calling the West Hartford office directly, who said he would "leave a message" for the prescription dept. Still, nothing. Now we are deciding to bail and follow Dr. Sagnella from the original practice (she left right away, which doesn't strike me as a good sign) and we have left NUMEROUS messages to find out how to transfer our medical records...and still nothing days later. Tomorrow I plan to go there in person and I pity the person I encounter at the front desk. This begs the question: why should I have to go in in person to get a simple answer for....anything? If yit's important to you to have anyone at a practice caring about you as a patient in the slightest way, I would not recommend this company. read more
