The first hike we did was a total of about 4 miles. Two miles in and then 2 miles out. It was a pretty easy trail. Luna was loving it. She was a champ, I couldn't believe she made the whole thing without seeming too tired. The next day March 9th we went back and did two other trails and an overlook equality about 3.5 miles total. This is when Luna started to show signs of being tired. She would run ahead and than lay down and wait for us to meet up wit her. We didn't want to push her anymore. The two days of hiking a total of 7.5 miles was enough. We really had so much fun and if I had to pick something that Luna loved more than anything it would be when she is in the woods.

It has an outdoor covered pavilion with loads of rocking chairs to pass your time. It is located on a river that can be used for swimming or fishing. They pet friendly (which our Shitzu likes). The staff there is super friendly and helpful anyway they can be. There such much more you could say about it, however I end with my wife and I love this place and plan to return many times.

NOT (family) FRIENDLY -…read more My two children and I stopped by early because we had to use the bathroom (there is not an easy place to stop in that area). The front desk ladies would not allow us to do so, even though we were prepaid and pre-registered to check in that afternoon (we were there about two hours before our check-in time). We just wanted to use the bathroom, not check in yet. They said we'd have to pay a half-day rate ($40+) to use the toilet! After we killed time until check-in, we returned and were argued with about the key deposit and I began to cry. They could've cared less. They accused me of throwing things at them (I tossed my credit card on the desk so they could hold it instead of my $4.77 - make sure you have that $5.00 cash, boy!) and I told them, still in tears, that I'd cancel if I could. They told me "no refunds" and I walked out with them still talking about me to one another in the front office - deplorable. I cannot speak to the facilities - we didn't get that far because we were not treated well. Who doesn't even offer a mother in tears a place to sit down or a bottle of water or anything?!? I was too embarrassed and frustrated to even try to stay. I believe that kindness begets kindness and I can't say that we were shown that, so here is the review telling folks what happened. I hope this leads to some HR training for the staff and that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please don't call yourself a family campground unless you are willing to treat people like family - that's the whole point of choosing one.

My little mountain goats hiked around 5.8 (moderate difficulty-to us) miles to Rainbow Falls with some Black Bears and three timber rattlesnakes! This hike has a bit of an ascension, so be prepared to sweat in the first half of the out and back hike. I love the fish hatchery at the front of park and history around it. This place is absolutely breathtaking, both literally and figuratively!

However, the trail is all dirt and some mud,with tree roots and rocks sticking up along the trail. We had to bend down several times to get under tree branches and tripped a couple of times on the terrain. The trail narrows at several points, one of which my wife stepped on a snake that may have been a Copperhead!!!! I've seen other pictures of snakes on the trail of the venomous type. People we spoke to on the trail also talked about snakes being seen on the trail. I'm sure there are snakes on other trails as well, but this experience wasn't great.

Heavy billowing smoke and nothing the camp host would/could do about it. Not sure why rangers don't address the issue. Our throats were raw and we could not sit outside. We ended up leaving a day earlier than scheduled. -pricey for state campground. 60 bucks a night for a campsite.

The park had quiet hours at 10 and for the most part people respected The quiet time and the staff was super friendly. The main reason we disliked this park was the smoke. Many of the campers either did not know how to light and maintain a fire or the campground is selling wet wood but either way the smoke was overwhelming and made it miserable. The Rangers should absolutely have addressed the smoke issue by going to each of the campsites and finding out what was going on.. One of our campsite neighbors had smoke going for two days straight and it was unbearable. In addition the sites were way too close together for such a beautiful park it could've been laid out to keep everybody happy and maintain some privacy. Lastly, the park is very expensive compared to other state parks.

This was much different from the two other Y camps she attended, although she enjoyed both. Unfortunately the staff is ill equipped to handle special situations with campers. Be very cautious when sending your child there. This was her fifth year so they knew her but I suppose the families of the other girls were more "influential" to the camp.

When we visit Brevard, we are usually tent camping in Pisgah forest. However, this year we had a…read morelogistics change, and combined our vacation with a couple others, so we brought our camper. Initially, we were trying to get into Davidson River campground, but of course the reservations were all booked and we couldn't find a spot. Instead, we looked in the area online and found this place, and I'm glad we did. The location is convenient to all of Brevard and the Pisgah forest, a quick 5 minute drive from anywhere in town. We stayed on site 6, which was in the far corner and it was awesome. There was a grassy area right behind which the kids played on and enjoyed, and there were really thoughtful amenities throughout the campground including a bike maintenance station, a welcome center with complimentary goodies, a nice dog park and community firepit and garden. I think all the sites are full hookup, which was a nice convenience compared to the other option. We also had super strong WiFi in the camper. I was able to work and have video calls with not a single issue. It was the best Wifi we have ever had at a campground. When we arrived, the site host stopped by to say hi and introduce herself. We also had some small maintenance to do on our camper, which she made sure she gave us all the information for service centers in the area, and offered to see if they had any tools we may be missing. This is certainly a super thoughtful and amazing place, surely worth a stop next time you're wanting to visit Brevard!
