Web site states they close at 6:00 I called at 4:30 asking if any spots were available arrival time was 5, she stated they close at 5 and they will not accommodate us. She told me to come back in the morning so we can stay then. I asked her please we will arrive by 5. She said nope and gave me another campground number to call for the night 45 minutes away. So we found the KOA Down the street and it's cheaper and they actually care about us. read more

A little bit on the pricey side for the area, I think, but honestly, the top of this campground has views that are truly incredible. We walked or biked up to the top a couple of times to enjoy the view (it is STEEP to get up there!) The location is very convenient for exploring Asheville and Blue Ridge Mountain hikes, and the campground itself is well-maintained and scenic. Just days after we left, we heard Mama Gertie's was unexpected devastated by Hurricane Helene. I was shocked and sad to hear this. We had a lovely experience here and wish them a speedy re-build and recovery. read more

I hope whoever added padlocks to the already miniscule number of bathrooms dies a horrible dysntary related death because they couldn't even see the code on the paper with already small text and they have to trek back to the farthest campsite because the bathroom closest is out of order. The nature itself was nice. Also let bears do their business in their home, god forbid a bear explores a bathroom or something. Edit: that was aggressive sorry. Really needed to go read more

We recently had to cancel our stay at Mama Gertie's. Our RV broke down. They kept all of our pre-payment ($224.00) and instead gave us a gift certificate for our next stay! NO REFUNDS for pre-payers! Booked 2 nights for October. Campground no longer operational due to hurricane. While they have a no refund policy when you cancel your reservation, this should not apply when they are unable to provide the services they contracted to provide. Disputed charges through our credit card company since they would not respond to emails or calls. Interesting how they could not respond to us but were able to respond to our credit card company that no refund would be issued fit to their cancelation policy. We didn't cancel and this business is in breach of contract. Initially I was sympathy to their situation but no longer due to their actions. read more

Absolutely wonderful stay! Beautiful mountain side campground. Sites with decks have really great views but we had a pull through that was still very nice. Gravel sites well maintained , trash pick up, fire pits on site. We even saw a bear coming up the hill. Bathrooms were nice and well maintained. I would worn long rigs against staying here. Take their rig length guidelines seriously. We took our smaller 32ft 5th wheel but would never have gotten our 45ft toy hauler up those steep hills and sharp turns. Can't wait to go back and explore more of Asheville! read more

Unique campground on a hillside. We stayed in site 42 "up top", which is a small gravel site with full hookups. Unfortunately, this meant our view was of a 5th-wheel trailer and our pickup which had no place to be but sideways in front of our airstream. If we had been in the site where the 5th wheel was, the view would have been very nice. The drive up to that part of the campground is entertaining. High-grade with switchbacks. The roads in the campground are well maintained. In most of the campground, the sites are situated as close to one another as possible, and oriented to eek out every inch of space. Up top there are no trees around the sites, just in the surrounding hillsides. They put a lot of work into creating stone walls behind sites like ours to prevent mudslides from the hill above. The campground is very neatly maintained. There are small (very small) patches of grass to help delineate the sites. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring, grill top, and poker. Also, our site was level. I'll mention that in the lower area of the campground many sites have a level area combined with a steep entrance.. hitching up, particularly if you have an anti-sway or weight distribution hitch might present challenges. Near our site there was a lot of activity... kids screaming and climbing the rocks behind the sites, dogs running around off leash, and a constant activity of cars coming and going. It took us a while to put the pieces together, but eventually we realized that three of the campers near and next to use were part of the same group. They didn't respect camp site boundaries, and were constantly walking over the grass patch by our site to get to theirs. One nearby camper was pacing around on his cell phone for a couple hours very loudly. They also didn't respect quiet hours on our last night, and were talking fairly loudly well after 11 PM. In any other campground I would have had a camp host to implore for enforcement of camp rules, but at this campground the staff exits at 6 PM promptly. All the commotion and constant yapping of one dog which was the one frequently off leash and running around had our dogs on "high alert" and we had to keep our shades drawn and run our AC to help drown out the noise so they would settle down. We managed to find a semi quiet spot in the 5-feet behind our trailer against the rock wall to try to enjoy a fire and the trees above. It was a bit forced to try to pretend we were enjoying the outdoors. There is a complete lack of anywhere to walk dogs in that upper area. We did find an unexpectedly private and nice area where the Cabins are nestled into the woods with a pretty babbling creek, down the hill a bit. If they had RV campsites with that much space and privacy, it would be amazing. The gentleman who escorts you to your campsite was very nice... I had asked him if they had campfire wood available, and he instructed me to call the office, and he'd bring it up for us. I tried to contact the office from 5:25 to 5:55. No answer. No call back. He took it upon himself to bring some wood up to us anyhow. That was nice. On a final note, I can't emphasize enough that if you plan to stay here, arrive well before 6 pm and make certain you have no needs or questions once your guide drives away. They have a policy of being shut down not 1 second after 6 PM, and that seems to include not picking up the phone after 5:15. We were driving from West Virginia, and were well on schedule to be there before 5:00, but around 3 we were sidelined along a highway with all the other vehicles during a severe hail storm with high winds and a tornado warning. We spent an hour trying to contact Mama Gertie's to let them know our ETA had shifted to 6:15 to 6:30, but that we were clear of the storms and didn't expect any further delay. We were informed that we would have to seek another place to spend the night. The reason given was that they must escort you to your site, and will not do that after dark. That sounds reasonable until you realize that dark isn't until nearly 9 PM at this time of year. The upside of being denied entry a few minutes after 6 is that we rerouted to an amazing and beautiful state park in Virginia, and decided to drive our Airstream along the Blue Ridge Parkway ... not in our initial itinerary, but a definite highlight of our trip. So much so that when we left Asheville to head south, we returned to the parkway to Cherokee. The parkway is a short drive from Mama Gertie's... that's a plus. All in all, after seeing mention of his campground that sings it's praises, this was definitely a let down. A big part of it is the difficulty communicating with the office, their inflexibility, and their apparent exit from the property at 6-- factors which taken together impact the customer experience. I almost rated them "3". Because clearly someone does care about cleanliness, maintenance, landscaping, and driveways, I rated them a "4". read more

We planned to camp so we could enjoy Asheville, and picked Mama Gertie's Campground for the positive reviews compared to some of the other campgrounds around. We ended up enjoying the campground so much that we cut our Asheville visit short to enjoy Swannanoa and Black Mountain. Some key elements of any great campground are: 1. Nature 5/5 Mama Gertie's gets a 5/5 from me. This campground is nestled literally in the mountains. The owners have put work and love into this campground and it shows. There are multiple levels of camping up to the very top with decks overlooking the mountains. There's hardscaping at each level and trees in between. We were fortunate enough to camp under tree blossoms. It was beautiful. Can't wait to return when the the leaves are on the trees. 2. Clean Restrooms 5/5 We have a pop-up, so a clean bathroom is a must for me. They get a 5/5 again. Killing it with the clean bathrooms that smell good and are dry and warm. The showers are also very nice, we are talking gray tile I'd put in my bathroom at home, kinda nice. 3. Campsites 5/5 The campsites are clean, well maintained with a picnic table at each site. Couldn't ask for better. The fire pit is clean and neat with an optional grill grate. 4. Friendly Customer Service 5/5 The staff, perhaps the owners, were friendly and extremely helpful. The man escorted us to our site and then guided us in the back-up site (wish we had him we when backed up our camper the very first time). A friendly woman checked us in and and out. Note: Dogs allowed and they have multiple places for you to clean up your dog poo and place it in a trash receptacle. PSA: If you cannot do this, you probably shouldn't have a dog. There's also a fenced in area for your dogs to run. There is fitness equipment for adults only. No pool, I'd say this campground is intended for a quiet, chill camping experience. read more

I will never ever make a reservation with them because of their predatory policies. I agree with the first comments. I was horrified to learn that they do not give a refund and only give a gift certificate that is for a year from the time you canceled not from your booked reservation date. I have never ever heard this happen at any campground, and we've been traveling for many years. read more

Well, it's a nice RV "resort" and at over $100 a night one would expect amenities that would be comparable to that price range. BUT, when you have to wait in line for a bathroom, a shower and you have that kind of price point, we had to to wait until the next early morning for a shower. We had much better luck with NPS. Unprofessional lady on the balcony where you can't see her from a car there to yell at you to slow down, once you do she then yells at you again for entering to retrieve there customers when there is 0 signage saying you can't enter. And I mean YELLS at you. If I was going to fast, you can ask me not to politely, if I can't enter somewhere you can tell me that politely. Instead I guess a manager? Decided to yell at me. A stay at Mama Gertie's is a must when visiting Asheville! For the last 20 months we've been traveling this amazing country of ours and this is one of the best RV campgrounds we've had the pleasure of staying in, hands down. Starting with the first phone call, Christy and her team treated you like family. Good family ;o). They're professional, warm, and friendly. Unfortunately, customer service seems to be lacking at many campgrounds, not so here. These folks ROCK! On to the park ambiance. This campground is BEAUTIFUL! Hugging the side of a mountain, the park sites range from those that are tucked in between wonderful foliage OR those that sit at the pinnacle. The mountain top sites have incredible views and amazing sunrises & sunsets! Also, each site had a portable fire pit. Neat! The laundry facilities were spot on, with plenty of machines that were well cared for. There's even a library exchange, and the bathrooms (we didn't use them) were beyond spotless. Wow! The main office houses the laundry etc. and has rockers and a porch swing to hang out and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. One caveat, as stated above, this park is tucked up a mountainside so driving our 37' 5th wheel to our mountain top site was definitely left up to my husband ;o). Oh, and if you're a walker, you can get a great workout walking down to the office and if your pooped, the staff will drive you back up to your site. Now that's service! This location allows great access to all things Asheville and even closer proximity to Black Mountain. So, stay a spell, you'll be glad you did! read more

We chose Mama Gertie's after passing it up a year ago when in pursuit of a "cabin experience." This year though - being on the road fulltime, mind you - we chose to give it a chance and see just how hidden away this hideaway truly was. Boy are we glad we did. The entire experience began on a bright note when we called two months in advance to make reservations for a 30-amp, pull-thru, with full hookups. We were told there was plenty available at that time and were even asked if we had a preference of site. I told them I would prefer to be right next to a WiFi repeater station as I have had my share of "free Wifi" where the signal doesn't go 25 feet to know that skepticism is best. With our Good Sam discount of 10% we were quoted two nights for $66.25. Very decent indeed. Just outside of Asheville (about an 8-minute drive on I-40) Mama Gertie's is indeed a highway. Coming from our direction you just get off Exit 59, make a left, and drive straight for about 1 mile. WARNING: The driveway up to the campground is a bit steep so be advised. Check-in was a breeze and within 5 minutes or so I was in and out and being escorted to our site. Once there Jerry (really friendly fellow) helped us pull through to a good spot, park, and even drop the leveling jacks. He pointed out a few things, talked for a minute, and then exited before over-extending his welcome. The sites themselves are well appointed with FREE cable ($20 deposit for the remote control though which is refundable upon check-out), clean sewer inlets, a well-maintained junction box, gravel parking, room for a full size, long-bed, pickup truck, and great rock and cedar tree landscaping. Each site also has a fire ring and fire wood is available for sale at the office. By 7:30pm on both nights (Thursday and Friday) everyone was pretty quiet and our sleep on both nights was more than restful. We are definitely putting this on our "will return" list and we are pleased with every facet of our stay. Currently the campground is expanding and adding a few more sites which will be "premium" in that they have amazing mountain views (they are three full landings above everyone else) and walkout decks to extend the view. Rumor has it they will be priced at $75/night. read more

Was looking for the perfect getaway spot and Mama Gerties was definitely the spot! Stayed in the cabin and couldn't be happier with this decision. The set up was mostly private and outside included a fire pit, a grill, electrical connection, a picnic table and a mini creek! The cabin itself was small but perfect for the 4 of us! Inside included a small table with two chairs, a full size bed, a bunk bed, a trash bin, hooks to hang belongings and a ceiling fan. There is no AC but we were fine. The campsite is shaded with all the surrounding tees and once the sun goes down, there is a nice breeze outside that makes the cabin feel cool inside (I even had to wear a sweater but I'm from Florida so anything below 70 is chilly for me lol). The bathrooms were super clean, every morning there would be someone cleaning them. Occasionally you'd see a bug in there that would creep in when you opened the door but you are at a campsite so what do you expect? Staff in the office are nice, they also sell basic necessities if needed. Nearby there are gas stations and markets. I absolutely would recommend this place to any couple, family or anyone trying to get away and just relax. Will for sure come back to this campsite ! read more

I'm giving them a poor review because they don't answer the phone or return phone calls. I've called 10 times in the past 3 days during business hours. They answered once and I asked a few questions and I told them I'd call back to book. No one has answered or returned call in 3 days so we have to choose a different direction and go somewhere we know we can get a site. I would have liked to have stayed here. Looks nice online. Hope they get their customer service together. read more

Though the campsites are close together, the campground deserves 5 stars. Very homey campsites, the view from the top is great and the staff go out of the way to provide for you. Facilities are top notch and they even have a dog park! The time deadline is to show you to your campsite before staff leaves. read more

CROOKS! DO NOT BELIEVE REVIEWS!!! DO NOT BOOK! I was horrified by my experience with Mama Gerties. We had hoped to stay here for my father's 80th birthday and get others to stay as well. We booked and then tried to cancel the transaction immediately. They wouldn't let us cancel. I get it - especially if you've blocked others from booking the site. BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE! Even the airlines let you cancel if less than 24 hrs. THEN THE WORST PART. They charged us an additional fee and then issued a gift certificate, but it EXPIRES one year from the day of the "transaction". Making it unusable for us. In short, the business pocketed almost $600 for a 5 minute inconvenience. I was horrified and called them. Begging them to do the right thing. Not only did they refuse to refund my money and just charge a fee, the woman laughed at me, stating it was just "policy". Worse yet they also refused to extend the expiration of the gift certificate. The end result is they will be able to double book the site, get my payment in full, and charge me an extra fee for doing so. This is predatory. Imagine if Target or Olive Garden gave you 6 months to use a gift card. Would Mama Gerties do the right thing? NO! Would they extend the gift certificate NO! This business is incredibly greedy. The worst part this booking was over the 4th of July. They will be fully booked. So they took over $500 from a hard working family and pocketed it for a 5 minute inconvenience. The only cost to them was the credit card transaction. Guess what?!?! I was happy to pay that fee. I would have even accepted a gift certificate that expired in 10 years. But pocketing the money. Horrifying. Absolutely disgusted. read more

Out new FAVORITE campground. Security gate, best WiFi ever, full services, roomy and FLAT gravel sites, and friendly staff ... all near the top of a mountain with seriously breath-taking views. The winding, steep-grade road up to the sites may be challenging for a new driver, but navigating IS do-able. Sites have fire pits and nice picnic tables. Hookups (water, electric, sewer) were very clean and looked new. Entire campground was very well maintained. All this beauty and quiet serenity is only about 15 miles from Asheville with great restaurants, shopping, street entertainers, farmers market and Friday night drumming circles. read more

The bathrooms are clean. The office closes a bit early...6pm. Tried to do laundry, machine was out of detergent, coin machine was not working. And yes, the office was closed. This ground is for RV's, no place to wash our dishes, and only 6 tent sites. Last but not least....I ordered 4 bundles of wood they only delivered 2! Their staff were all pleasant, helpful and engaged in their jobs. We own a campground and know how difficult it can be to find great staff. It makes a huge difference to the visitor's experience. What a beautiful place! We were there for the peak of the Fall leaf change and it was stunning. The property is very well maintained, bathrooms and showers were very clean. One of the ladies who worked the front desk could use an attitude adjustment however... She was always cranky and a little condescending but we chose to smother her with love anyway - which seemed to piss her even more. We didn't give her permission to spoil our trip. LOL read more

We made a last minute overnight reservation for one of the highest camp sites near the new bath house. Couldn't help but admire the neighboring sites that had overhanging decks and swings (reserved well in advance) and enjoy the breathtaking view that was just a short walk from our own campsite. The private bathhouse showers were LUXURIOUS and impeccably clean. We had no difficulty navigating in and out with our 24 foot rig. I appreciated the gated entry and the cleanliness of the grounds. Next year, when the sky high terrace is open again, we will make Mama Gertie's a destination vacation and have another FABULOUS breakfast at Blue Ridge Biscuit while we are at it! read more

My husband and I decided on a whim to go camping for a bit while we were already in North Carolina. He had googled camping near Asheville and Mama Gertie's popped up. We decided on the premium camp site and it was worth every penny! This place is spotless and the staff here more than helpful. They deliver firewood to your campsite, they've got their own laundry mat, and a million things in the surrounding areas to do. I've never been to a campsite that was so neatly kempt. They are currently finishing what appears to be another laundry site/shower house at the top where we are camping which is convenient that anyone up top won't have to drive down to the front for showers or laundry. They also have cable TV for your site as well as full hook up options. We will for sure be coming back here. It's beautiful and relaxing and what's not to love about that? read more

What an absolute delight! This has to be one of the most unique RV Parks I have ever stayed in. It is built on the side of a hill and the further you go back in the Resort, the higher you get. We are now parked in the "new" section - with stunning views of the Great Smoky Mountains. Eric greeted us as we pulled in at just about closing and helped me park my trailer in the parking lot. We then followed him up the mountain to our site - one of the prettiest sites we have ever been in. My large Class A chugged up the hill with little problem. The quality of the park is first class. Every fence, fixture and feature shows that no expense was spared in the construction and maintenance of this park. Staff has been outstanding and you certainly cannot beat the views. My only comment is to be sure you get up a head of steam approaching Mama Gerties and when you climb to your spot inside the Campground. The WIFI is strong and fast at our site. This is a great place to camp!! Major kudos to the placement of sites. They are not trying to cram too many campers into a small area - especially at the top! Views up top are lovely. Staff is friendly. Sites are gravel, not paved, but well maintained. Close to I-40, but feels like you are miles away once you arrive! Quick trip into Asheville. We stayed in site 20, backin 30 amp site, water and electric only. Our site was roomy with our Popup, and on the creek. The creek wasn't flowing, but it was a nice playground for our girls. Hours of entertainment for them and plenty of shade. While there we planned on spending 4 days visiting the Biltmore by spending more days on the grounds vs just inside the house. The girls just wanted to get back to the campsite to play. It was nice visiting the other campers. The Wi-Fi worked great, they keep it clean by daily working on blowing and picking up leaves. Washers/dryers were plenty and cheap. Bathrooms were very clean. Up top in the bigger sites, it's a bit more expensive but great views. At first we didn't book those due to no restrooms, but we we were there, they had them and a few washers. Cons....just one. If you are not in good shape or any physical difficulties, the trip to the restrooms is down/up hill. It's not far but a steep incline one way or another. Especially from the tent sites. So if you have a concern for this, book close to the bottom in the lower section, the mid section was oaky (a bit of a walk, but not steep), or pay premium and book at the overlook sites. With that said above, this is one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed at and worth the cost (not too much higher than state campgrounds). Easy access to the interstate. Lots of dogs though (all on leashes). read more
