They overloaded this with peppers and spices to attempt to cover the rotten tomatoes.
Otis S.

First time eating here... The salsa came out the service has been great so far... the salsa... you can taste the flavor of rotten tomatoes... I grew up farming so this smell and flavor has stuck with me. Fresh vegetables for the salsa are a must... I asked for a fresh bowl of salsa with fresh tomatoes. They brought out another bowl of salsa again with rotten tomatoes. However overloaded with chilis, jalapeños and cilantro to attempt to mask the rotten tomatoes. The second round of salsa was just as bad as the first. But extremely spicy. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant on the first impression as they apparently do not have fresh foods....

Marley was on point and the service was great. The seafood queso was good. I ordered the 3 meat fajitas and by far the beef is a must. The seasoning and tenderness of the beef was excellent. A must try for sure.

We went for lunch before leaving town and while it was good, it was just ok. The salsa had decent flavor but needed to be a little chunkier. It was more of a tomato sauce consistency. The chips were warm and fresh though. I ordered the seafood relleno and it had crawfish and shrimp. The downfall was that it was coated in just this scrambled egg wash. No flour or breading. Just looked like a crepe with a chili inside. I picked it off because it was such a wierd taste. The rice and beans were pretty bland. But the crawfish inside did taste good. It just was that egg I can't get over. My husband ordered the sizzling burrito which is a fajita burrito. It tasted good but needed more meat. Lots of peppers and onions but the meat ratio wasn't well. It is one of those things where it was ok but dont feel the need to go back.

Chile and onion enchiladas. Pretty good. The best I've had in Louisiana so far. Would come back. Nice waitress and quick service.

Sombreros is always a great spot. Friendly service, super quick, and delicious food. Here is the 1/2lite meal with 2 fajita tacos, side of guacamole and steamed vegetables

Chicken fajitas. Bland and blah.

Terrible food. Been a few times and never finished meal because of taste. Kids didn't even like it. Not good. Nachos were shredded cheese over 8 chips. Salsa was not great. Kids tacos were super greasy.

It was combo fajitas... My trusty standby!!

I'm not sure who runs this place, but it is awesome. I eat here every time I pass by. I think the picture says it all.

Good service, nice restaurant but the food failed to impress. We consider it a one and done experience.

Great steak fajitas! The meat is so tender and juicy. I also like that the onions and peppers are in big pieces.

Upon being seated, guests are presented with a simple yet genuinely authentic menu. The flavors remain consistently exceptional, a quality I believe is essential for any restaurant hoping to thrive in Alexandria. Caro's is far from the typical, run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant where meals are hastily assembled from a hot line and served with an inflated price tag. Instead, each dish reflects care, authenticity, and craftsmanship. Complementing the cuisine, the staff and atmosphere provide an added layer of warmth and charm. The establishment also features a small shop offering imported goods, further enhancing the overall experience. I strive for honesty and objectivity in my reviews, and I rarely award a full five stars. However, Caro's is an exception. This assessment is not based on a handful of visits but on years of consistently outstanding dining experiences. If I were to choose a single word to describe Caro's, it would be authentic. This restaurant exemplifies what true, heartfelt Mexican cuisine should be.

Service was great and the little restaurant had an authentic feel but the food just wasn't flavored. I got the chicken fajita salad, my husband got a pork dish, and my daughter ordered a steak fajita quesadilla. The only positive about the food was the steak, it was tender and delicious but had a more 'philly cheese steak' flavor than Spanish.

Now, I am…read morefrom Arizona, which has the best Mexican food, so I wasn't exactly excited about eating this genre in Alexandria, Louisiana. Here goes... I wanted to play it safe so I ordered the carne asada. To my surprise, it wasn't horrible. Had good flavor and was cooked perfectly. It's served on a bed of grilled onions, which was weird but whatever. This dish also came with my choice of corn or flour tortillas. The rice and beans on the side tasted like they came strait from a can though, but who's there for the rice and beans anyway? Pro tip: save yourself a few bucks and just order the steak fajitas in lieu of the carne asada. The fajitas are served almost identically to the carne asada, except your meat is cut for you already. Both plates come served over grilled onions, both come with tortillas and also with rice/beans and toppings. EXACTLY THE SAME! Weird thing is, the carne asada is $2 more? Give Pedro's a shot, it won't be the best Mexican food you've ever had, but it won't be the worst either. One thumb and a high-five for Pedro's. Happy eating, my foodies!

I commend the staff for being really nice and helpful. Everything was still intact and hadn't melted by the time I got back to my hotel room. The ice cream was still firm and the shell was still crispy. Before digging in I had to take some of the whipped cream off of it. A little bit too much sugar was sprinkled on the outside but overall this was really good. I may come back and visit this place again before I leave. I just know to ask them not to put any whipped cream and not as much sugar. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
