I have never experienced such poor customer service (or lack there of!) by a company. My husband was in a car accident and this is the company who towed his car. Not only was the dispatcher rude, but she was unable to tell me if they actually had our vehicle or where it was located. She sent my call to the tow yard and my voicemail was never returned, nor our car's possession confirmed, by Somerset Hills. We drove there after the accident and saw the vehicle for ourselves but there was no one in the office. I proceeded to call and leave 9, yes NINE, voicemails with them (after going through a variety of dispatchers, all but one of whom were very rude and unhelpful), only one of which was ever returned. They held our car for far longer than was necessary, requiring my insurance to issue an extension on the coverage of how long they cover the "holding fees" by a non-approved tow yard - purely because neither I or the insurance could get anyone to speak to us to grant permission to release the vehicle and then to coordinate releasing the vehicle to another company. The only call I received back was about having to fill out paperwork and once I sent it back, along with a clarifying question, again no response and again more unanswered voicemails. Ultimately, my husband had to drive 40 minutes to their location to speak to someone, in order to get our vehicle released. In the ten minutes he was in the office, the phone range 5 times and not a single call was answered while the employees stood around talking to each other. I cannot NOT recommend this company enough and am very thankful for my insurance for pulling the final strings so that we could get our vehicle out of their possession. read more

Zero stars. Criminals. This company has been holding my car hostage for a month. I have sent them EVERYTHING they need. I have left voicemails begging and pleading. I have written emails. They do not respond. My insurance company eventually said they could no longer cover the cost as it has been 24 DAYS. My claim rep said he could not believe how this was legal, tried to get his supervisor involved, called them every hour for days on end leaving voicemail after voicemail. Had to call the police department to get my car released!!!! They turned down everyone from my insurance company with no basis!! They hold your car hostage. They stall and give you the runaround for as long as possible because each night they collect a storage fee. I needed to call the police to get the car released. This is the most dishonest business I have ever encountered. The following is the series of events that occurred. The day after the accident, I called Somerset Hills towing to have the car released to my insurance carrier's provider. I got hold of a person who then forwarded me to voicemail repeatedly. After not getting through to someone to handle the situation, I showed up to Somerset Hills Towing in person. I was asked to provide a copy of my license, registration, insurance card and sign a form authorizing them to release the vehicle to the insurance company. The same day, my insurance company called Somerset Hills Towing to get the car released and they were told nobody was at that location. When the insurance agency called me back to notify me of this, I was standing right outside the towing company's office. So, I walked into the office with the insurer on the phone and the staff at Somerset Hills refused to speak to the insurance company pointing to a sign that says no cell phone usage in the office. At this point, I informed my insurer that I had signed an authorization to release the car to them. The next day, the insurance's towing company showed up to collect the vehicle. Somerset Hills Towing refused to release the vehicle to the insurance agency stating that they needed my verbal authorization even though I had signed the written release the day prior. So, I called Somerset Hills Towing to give the verbal consent to release the car. The phone was answered by a person in the office who promptly sent my call to voicemail. At this point, I called the Watchung Police department that contracts with Somerset Hills Towing for the accidents that occur in their town. I told them that Somerset Hills Towing is holding my car hostage. After the police called them, Somerset Hills called me back immediately to let me know the car was ready to be picked up. By this time, it was after 5PM and so, another night of storage fees. If this happens to you, please file two formal complaints: 1) the town Police Department (likely the traffic division) in which the accident occurred so they will collect enough complaints to justify discontinuation of their contract with this towing company; 2) the Bridgewater Police Department because, they are the only police department that will have jurisdiction over this towing company to have them release your vehicle. read more

Predatory. They take your car to a lot with nobody on location. They have an answering service that transfers you to a voicemail so you can't ever talk to anyone. I was in an accident this past week, and Somerset Hills towing was incredibly helpful to me. Although my car was not kept at their garage and I can not speak to those services, I would use Somerset Hills again solely because of how amazing their tow truck driver was. Gerard was my tow truck driver- he showed up within 15 minutes of being called, loaded my car onto the truck quickly and efficiently, and provided me with reassurance. Overall - they do not return phone calls, they are not available during business hours - lights off no one around middle of the day and they will not help you at all through the process of getting your car released. I wish I wasn't forced into using them - I did not get a choice; but I would not suggest using them unless you can take multiple days off of work to make sure they are available when they say they are. read more

If I could leave zero stars, I would. As a previous review stated, the SHT logo is appropriate, all that is missing is an I. I had to have my car towed during Thursday, November 15th's, storm as my brakes lost pressure. I am thankful that I did not hit anyone or anything. After being checked on by not one, but two state troopers, and having been on the road for five hours for what is normally a 20 minute commute, I conceded to the second trooper calling a tow truck, as I could not safely continue my drive. I was given a business card, the driver would not give me his name. Shady, but I was exhausted, freezing, and just wanted to get home. I call the next morning as the driver instructed and the woman who answered was extremely rude, snapping at me that "You have to understand, we towed, like, 30 cars last night" and generally giving me a hard time. I can understand being overwhelmed and a major event like this causing craziness at work, but the response was uncalled for at best. Finally get the location of my vehicle. I was told it was buried behind 8 other cars that had no keys, and had to clarify they had not lost my keys. They then told myself and my mother it was behind a locked fence when we wanted to retrieve documentation and check on the condition of the vehicle, and lied about it being impounded. It was never impounded as I had done nothing illegal- I just needed help as my vehicle was disabled. When we tried to take care of the situation on Saturday to get the vehicle released, during their hours, we were told it "had to be taken care of on Monday" by the owner, who was also exceptionally rude and borderline belligerent. I get new documentation on Monday, and go to get my vehicle released. They tried to tell me they did not know where my vehicle was when I called to ask how to square away the bill, and the first thing said to me upon asking was "You know, we're all trying to get our lives back together after this storm again snapped at me. Despite assuring me there would be no charges if their mechanic looked at it for storage, I was charged for holding fees and the bill came just shy of $400 to go 7 miles. One of the days included in the holding fee was Thursday night, which their driver didn't get there until about 10pm. I paid because I wanted my vehicle away from these people. Then their mechanic tried to tell me it would be 1600 dollars in just parts to fix my breaks. Knowing my way a bit around cars, I looked up the parts. Even if I needed to replace all four calipers, all four rotors, and all four break pads and rounded up generously the cost for parts would not exceed 900 dollars. I called my regular mechanic to confirm, and he agreed I was being taken for a ride. I am still not sure if I will be repairing my car, as it is a 14 year old vehicle. I told the mechanic as much, and said I would be getting it towed to my parent's home, as they have the room for it and my apartment complex doesn't, while we decided what to do. My bill was paid. The car was released. I instructed him to leave the vehicle accessible. He locked it in his garage. I was floored. Again, I was being denied access to my vehicle. I called the next morning and left a voicemail telling him, again, to leave my car accessible. He could not be bothered to get back to me, and I finally got through to him nearly 8 hours later and he said it would be out on the side of the building. Thankfully, it was. I have filed a police report, and will be filing a report with the township and the BBB. These people are running a scam to take advantage of those who may need help, and are on the state police's call list. I have had to move several important medical appointments and treatments around, including chemotherapy due to autoimmune disorders, because of the massive expense in time, energy, and finances this ordeal has been. Thankfully, I have savings and a support system to fall back on. I can only imagine if I didn't. Shame on this company and all associated with them for taking advantage of people in need of assistance. read more

This towing company was horrible. We had an accident on a Thursday night, on Friday at noon I went down to my car to get some personal items. No problem getting them & "the boss" was helpful regarding the auto body portion in regards to insurance. We did a release so our auto body shop could pick it up, they would not let me speak to a human on the phone regarding changes...not would they speak to my shop on Friday. Late Monday they finally spoke to the shop...never returned my call though. When my shop guy's towing went to pick up my car ..:sonerset hills damaged the car more by how they picked it up with a fork lift. HORRIBLE PLACE! Storm occurs on September 3rd flooding the entire town leaving every vehicle and home on my block flooded with 5 ft. of water. November 12th Somerset Hills towing threatens to take me to court about the vehicle. Scam Scam Scam. The Somerville-Bridgewater police department is the laziest police department I have ever seen in my life and they are bullies. They knew residents had no where to go, we were getting evacuated, and this whole situation was very devastating to us all. However your focus was to clear the road so that cars can get past even though there were open adjacent streets nearby. Clearly if a whole fire truck is stuck on the block and needed towing that should mean something. Had it been road construction would you have been so eager to open it up? No! One star because the tow truck driver was a good guy but this company is shady and will rob you blind. Was told they had a shop and I asked to be towed there but they took me to a parking lot and had me waiting hours that they charged me for. Had their mobile guy come out just to charge me more to tell me I had to go to the dealership. When I was clearly upset about the bill they took off the mobile fee but still charged me for them keeping me in a parking lot. Threatened to keep my truck and trailer hooked and bring it back to their shop so I payed and still never received the receipt that was supposed to be emailed. Slid off the road in the snow. One block from my house. Someone called the cops who called these guys even though I had already called my triple A. You'll place scores of unanswered phone calls that go straight to voice mail, wait forever for a callback, be asked for documents that after you send them be told (much later) are not the right ones, never be told what the charges are, and basically have your car held hostage for as long as possible so SHT can rack up more of their outrageous daily charges. Then the phone tag begins. After 7 days from when we provided their release form they just now told me additional information was needed. The driver was pleasant, friendly, and very compassionate instantly reliving the heightened emotional state due to the accident.
