The seamstresses at Something Blue saved the day when we brought my daughter's dress there for alterations. We ordered it from another shop and they ordered the dress too small. With a lot of ingenuity and experience, the gals there fixed the dress and improved upon it! They took fabric from optional bows to add material to the sides and back, giving the illusion the dress was like that the whole time. I thought we would be on a time crunch because the dress also came in later than promised, but that was not an issue at all. I ordered my mother of the bride dress there and my other daughter got lucky and was able to get her Maid of Honor dress off the discontinued rack! All our alterations were spot on and the prices were very reasonable. I won't mention the other shop because I don't want to give them any publicity, but I would 100% return to Something Blue! read more

I don't live in Florida and planned an entire trip including airfare and lodging to pick up my dress. I unzipped it and immediately noticed a snag right in the front on the bottom of the dress, which was very noticable. I was told not to worry about it because it was small. Upon further examination there were two more snags on the side of the dress, one on the back, and these black lines- approximately 6" in length on both sides of the back of the dress! They had no explanation of what that was. Sweat, stains? Did someone already wear this $2,000 dress? I truly believe they tailored the try on dress. The black lines would be consistent with where their black rubber coated clips would go when fitting it to someone. I was told the manager would look at it the next day. It took two days and her demeanor was very rude as she talked over me and tried to shut me up and hang up quickly, and I was nothing but polite. I was leaving Florida and called back once more and told the allure couture company was taking ownership of the defects and it would be sent back to them to "assess" which would take 3 more days. I was told I would get a brand new dress. At this point I asked for some type of discount for all of this trouble. I was told I would be offered something, but with no amount stated. They put it on the allure company and said it would be up to them even though they kept repeating how they wanted me to be happy. I would think they would even take a hit on some of the cost to do so, but no. My mother called the shop and complained because I was very upset as I had just had my dream venue get an opening which I booked and now I was left without a dress. After 9 days I get a call from the manager saying that my mom had harassed them with her phone call. LOL. After the manager had the same rude attitude towards her and told her "we want to make every bride here happy." Clearly not. My mom refers to them as the stepford wives because it sounded like they were reading a script. Anyway, day 9 now, they call me and make it sound like I have an option, and said nothing was going to make me happy and they weren't going to provide a discount. She said I would receive a full refund. She said we "weren't a good fit", which ironically, I remember the saleswoman talking about another customer the day I got my dress and said the same thing! One inconvenience to them and they will deem you unfit for them . The manager kept referring to my "options". I said, do I have any? She ultimately admitted no, they would not sell me a dress, and blamed it on my mom's phone call, even though I payed for the dress on my credit card. So I waited 9 days of being dicked around on the phone and them delaying this, hoping I would just ask for a refund on my own accord so they wouldn't have to admit they were going to ruin my wedding. truly scam artists, passive aggressive. read more

I came here yesterday looking for my wedding dress. I live in California, but was in town to visit my sister. I didn't think I would be purchasing anything and really just wanted to look. I didn't make an appointment but was greeted and helped immediately. The lady helping me was the owner. She was GREAT... Super friendly and knowledgable. Did I mention this was the first time dress shopping? I was put at ease while trying on dresses and I even purchased a dress! She made the process so easy. The dress will be shipped to me and alterations will be done in CA. Although if I lived closer I would get them done with SBB in a heartbeat. I am so pleased with my experience. I would recommend this shop to any bride. Prices range from about 400 to 2000. Beautiful dresses and there are many to choose from. One last thing... We had the 2nd appt of the day. Once we arrived, we saw the first appointment drinking juice or something that wasn't water. We weren't greeted or offered anything to drink. When we inquired, we were told they only had water and ONE CUP. Are you kidding me? There were 4 of us and we have to share a cup? The saleswoman wasn't helpful at all. She seemed very impatient and I continuously had to hunt her down for questions and assistance. I ended up picking my dress out myself but ordering it from another store. I am a bridesmaid for my brother's wedding and the bride decided to use this shop to get our bridesmaid dresses. Since it's her wedding, we all did as she requested but this shop has not made the process easy or enjoyable. Most of the bridesmaids (including the bride) do not live in Florida and therefore we had to order all of our dresses over the phone. When calling in to give my measurements, the sales associate commented on my size and said that I was 3 different sizes in dresses. She then questioned the accuracy of my measurements. Just to be safe, I went to a department store to get re-measured which resulted in the same size as the first time. I called back to give my measurements and again I was criticized for my body shape. As a woman, I am so disappointed by the body shame that I received from this shop that is run by women. It's already daunting to be ordering a dress over the phone that I have never tried on but to also be criticized my body shape is unbelievable. This is not a supportive establishment for woman and does not provide good customer service. After placing my order over the phone, I never received any kind of receipt or confirmation. I had to call in to get updates about when I can expect the dress. When the dress was suppose to arrive to the store, I was not notified and I had to call in to see when the dress would ship to me. The sales associate said that the dress will not be shipping for several weeks. I asked if the dress could be shipped earlier as the wedding is in less than 2 weeks and I anticipate alternations will need to be made. The sales associate offered to do the alternations which does not help me because for the fifth time of mentioning to her, I do not live near the state of Florida. In conclusion, there are a lot of other great bridal shops out that there that make it easy and comfortable for woman to get ready for a wedding and this is not one of them. read more

The staff, So kind and helpful, I had my infant with me, he is always very good and smiles for miles, although he was fussy this day due to teething, and they were so sweet and accommodating for us. Went as an out of town visitor and had a good experience. No pressure, no rush. Although I had an appt and was the only one in the shop the whole time. My budget was pretty low, so the selection was kind of slim as it's a smallish shop, but if your budget is around the $1200 mark there would be plenty to try on in a variety of styles. When I found out that this store was supposed to be increasing their stock of plus sized gowns, I thought it was too good to be true. Apparently it was. I had been in contact with them for months inquiring about the larger sizes and chose to go take a peek before my appointment to pick out some styles for the day of. I thought this would make the appointment run smoother and be less stressful. On 2 occasions, I took a bridesmaid of mine to the store to pick out a couple I wanted to try on. The first time was amazing and everything I had hoped for. The dresses were beautiful and the staff (the owner) was absolutely amazing. I brought another bridesmaid in a few weeks later to do the same thing and that's when it happened... I was fat-shamed out of the dress and store. I had my eye on a Stella York dress that was simply gorgeous. It was a size 8, much smaller than I am. I knew they could order the larger sizes, however, and I was just looking at it The woman who was working came over and said, "I thought you wanted to try dresses on." I replied that I did, just not today but at my appointment. "Well, I just don't know how you expect this dress to work... it's considerably smaller than you... I hope you don't expect to try it on." It was at this point that my bridesmaid could see the hurt feelings and frustration on my face. She stepped in and explained about ordering it in a larger size. The lady responded, "well I guess... but you won't fit in this dress to try on... it's a size 8... I don't know your size but that just won't work." I said that it wouldn't and left the store. I called back and told the owner. She simply said that she could be the one at the appointment. I cancelled the appointment and found the same dress for $600 more and bought it on sight. I have my first fitting in 2 weeks. I will never be back for me or any family member ever again. read more

Josie and the other lady working made comments while I was changing about the kids being there. Didn't even try to help me find them dresses and I told her I needed one for them too. They paid more attention to my niece while the bride needed assistance, all because she being a typical two year old, asking questions and curious about being somewhere new. My mom graciously offered to pay for my dress and gave me an open budget but I wanted to stick to the $2k and under range since I'm not much of a spendthrift. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection they had and in real people sizes too! (I've gained some weight since my size 4/6 days so this was my biggest fear.) Also, I didn't even have to bother to look at the price tags because the dresses are so well priced so, that was another relief. Dee was my consultant and did an excellent job. My son was charged a 50% late fee for returning his prom tux a day late. Excessive I think. Staff and owner are rude. Location is too close to busy Manatee Ave. Parking is inadequate. I hope you decide to cut those other three high school boys you spoke of a break; you seemed so eager to charge your late fee. My grandmother and I came to this place in hopes to find a bustier for my hand made wedding dress, the employee didn't even know what it was... YET she works at a BRIDAL SHOP... to clarify its a body bra that tightens the curvy areas. So she grabbed one I tried it on it was a little tight I thought it was too small the lady insisted it was supposed to fit me that way.. Fat hanging out the back side, my boobs were cut in half.. I was hopeful to trust her decision being she was the manager I was HIGHLEY WRONG TO DO SO. I took it back home realized there was SOMEONE else's BLOOD on it after paying $52.00!!!!!! For a USED bra not knowing it was used... didn't even come with the straps that NEW ones come with... Sold it to me for a outrageous price to find make up and other stains on it as well. Tried to return it since the receipt stated they don't accept BRIDAL GOWN returns said NOTHING about other products JUST THE GOWNS. She told my grandmother there was nothing she could do other than to exchange it... I took my loss went to David's Bridal where they have..BRAND NEW ONES IN PACKAGING WITH STRAPS!!! For $30.00 and hell of a better quality then what this woman sold me. IM livid at the fact its ok to sell a customer something with someone else's BLOOD yet can't give me the money back. I will never refer any one to you and this is not the last you'll hear from me. How could you sell a customer a USED item that clearly was used for try on ONLY, terrible idea. So rude. Went in with the bride-to-be twice, once the appointment wasn't set up but we were very polite about the mix up and came back at a later date. They weren't ready for us and argued when we wanted a service that hadn't even happened yet taken off the bill. We hadn't been told ANY of the information the sales woman was rudely spewing at us about it. She kept arguing with the bride about taking the service off until I couldn't stand the treatment anymore and told her to just take it off so we could leave. Ridiculous. So impatient and rude, maybe it was just to us for some reason, but I don't think that makes it any better. read more

We ordered our son's Tux for his Prom and right from the get go, the experience was less than stellar. We entered the "boutique" to a massive wedding party picking up the dresses, we waited without anyone talking to us. When we finally were seen, by a rather obnoxious woman, she threw the catalog down and told us to pick out an outfit. We asked if they had the tux with the tails on display. She snapped NO, we then saw a white tux's in the book of hundreds of pictures (she did try to upsell us to the Premiere pages which we ignored) we said that was a nice tux and we wished it came in black, she snapped "It does!" We then tried finding the black version because she really didn't want to help us. We found it and she told us it was the $69.95 special and then charged us $106.14 including tax... The tux was actually $89.95 with no shoes. She then asked out son his height and weight. My husband asked if they were going to measure our son or just guess... Reluctantly she got out her measuring tape and took a few measurements. I will NEVER use this place again, we should of gone to Men's Warehouse who were running the same special $40 off tux for prom. This place is a disaster and the staff are rude and unfriendly. They obviously only cater to the big bulk wedding orders and not the 1 off tux rentals. The chubby blonde won't be getting any more of my business for Proms, Wedding or any special events that we have coming up in the near future. Disgraceful! read more

I had some of my bridesmaids purchase their dresses here. I have mixed feelings. When we ordered the dresses the staff was helpful and kind. However, after they came in 2 months later it was an entirely different attitude. First off, the bridesmaids bought their own dresses, yet I was the only one that got a phone call saying they were ready to pick up. Because, of course, the bride should be responsible for letting everyone know. Then, both dresses needed alterations which should have been simple but no... their alterations dept originally said they could come in whenever to do alterations but then when they tried, they kept telling the girls to make an appointment "next week" since they were busy. Well, 3 weeks later they had to go somewhere else to get their alterations as SBB was still unable to "fit them in" due to prom season. Overall nice selection of dresses, but terrible customer service. Be cautious. read more

The staff and the owner were rude, but the best part about this whole situation was that the owner started to talk and whisper about my behind my back. My dress was absolute stunning! The alterations were beautiful. However, I feel like I got tricked into the up charge of adding straps during the alterations. I did not ask for them, nor did I want them. However, I trusted the seamstress when she told me that she recommends them for when the dress is bustled because it "becomes heavier." The dress fit perfect, so the straps were a completely unnecessary addition. I paid for them, but did not need them. Other than that minor detail, I could not have been more pleased. read more

My mom lives down the street from here and I live in PA. Visiting my mom over thanksgiving, we decided to just browse this boutique. First, they have huge selection of gowns including almost any option you can think of (I tried on everything from satin to lace to tulle to mermaid to ball gown). We didn't have an appt. but Hailey took us right upstairs and we started pulling gowns immediately. Don't let Hailey's age fool you, this girl knows her stuff! I wasn't sure what I wanted or liked so I pulled a few gowns I liked and she pulled a lot too. I was never rushed, even though a crowd started coming in and they were getting busy. I tried on the same dress a few times and she never seemed annoyed, in fact she was more encouraging than anything. She made great suggestions for me to try on. She even played photog and took tons of pictures for my mom and me in all different lighting (hailey's idea). I couldn't be happier. So far the dress is ordered and I'm waiting for dress to arrive. They promised to only need one long weekend for alterations so I can plan to fly down accordingly. I recommend this boutique to any bride to be. read more

Do not get your bridesmaid dresses here! They are rude and unprofessional, especially the owner! All of my bridesmaid dresses were WAY too big, even though the girls tried to tell them to order a smaller size. My maid of honor went in to try her dress and the length was 3 feet too long. They then told her she had to make another appointment for alterations. She just took it elsewhere. 2 of my bridesmaids ordered theirs from out of town and they never called them to tell them they were in. Then, one bridesmaid's dress was at the store for 3 weeks and they completely forgot to mail it. On top of that, their dresses were shipped in a flat, tiny box and just crammed in there so they are extremely wrinkled. All of my bridesmaids have said that every time they talk to someone there, they are rude and condescending. If I would've know this before, I would have gotten bridesmaid dresses elsewhere.
